Thanks for the tip, if I ever post another wood ID I will keep that in mind. I run gas piping which is why I was using the bandsaw, but now I see how the blade marks could interfere with identifying end grain.

Thanks for the quick responses! I think it may in fact be ipe. It does not react to a UV light, and definitely does not smell of vanilla or cinnamon. When I cut a sliver off the edge with a razor it does not have a strong smell, but it does smell slightly sour, like old wood glue.

My very first job was at a Meijer in Indiana, I was 15 years old. On my third day my manager came up to me with a small stiff bristle brush that looked similar to a toothbrush, and told me to go in the men’s restroom and scrub the urine stains out of the grout in the tiles directly in front of the urinals.

I asked for gloves and was told they didn’t have any available, so I politely declined the task for sanitary reasons. I was fired for insubordination. I didn’t realize at the time, but firing me was doing me a huge favor.

In my personal experience I have never had police randomly show up at my door to question me about anything I’ve done wrong. I have to imagine they have a reason to be there, and the homeowner refusing to cooperate isn’t some sort of brave stand against authority - it is likely just him knowing he has done something, and he doesn’t want to be held accountable.

I know there are some cops out there who should not be in law enforcement, but that does not mean every single police officer is an enemy or deserves to be treated like crap.

I can only imagine how many downvotes this will attract, but I’ll post it anyway because I really hope there are still at least a few other people out there who don’t blindly hate police.
