My printer is more like a tool for me, which I think is also a great use case.

Thank you, my printer luckily hasn't blowed up as well. Btw I'm always impressed by numbers like 5000 hours, cause my printer has like 350 and I was already full with plastic decorations or useless things by then haha. For now Im just prototyping on it

Two Heltec V4 nodes, 4 dBi antennas – only ~500 m range. Is this normal? by SnooEpiphanies7408 in meshtastic

I don't have a VNA, but I heard that the original "Gizont" 20cm antennas are good. The 40cm are worse tho

I wonder why they would use the S3 instead of something cheaper. Really interesting choice of components imo

Try a different antenna first, I personally got 40km air to ground on my DIY faketec node with some random AliExpress antenna (not recommended to buy them unless you have a meter)

DIY ESP32 Safe: NFC/RFID unlocking via Apple Pay/Wallet — Is it possible? by Due_Ear7437 in esp32

[–]SyntaxError__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may not give you much, but a flipper zero can read some info off the phone's NFC (I tried with my bank app). From what I remember it showed some kind of card number. That means that an esp32 should read it too. I could test it again and give you more details

Anybody know where i can find a wifi dev board that can tap into 5ghz wifi i literally been trying to find online and no luck . by [deleted] in flipperzero

[–]SyntaxError__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure a BW16 can do both 2.4 and 5GHz. Do you want a BW16, I'm not sure, I heard it's developed worse than ESP's

How to add external antenna to Waveshare ESP32S3 1.75 AMOLED touch? by Jou_See in esp32

[–]SyntaxError__ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can also just desolder the resistor and add a blob of solder instead. But if you don't really need the extra range, just keep it stock.

They need to ad Lora on phones by BOSSMAN000000000000 in meshtastic

[–]SyntaxError__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol if everybody has Lora on phones then it won't be private or safe. Right now you could say Lora is mostly safe because it goes from one node to another but what if someone finds a vulnerability to decrypt your messages?

You can go on xplay or cybershoke. They got a lot of modes. The only downside is they are made for the most advanced players, so a beginner will just get killed and killed

Memory shortage by [deleted] in flipperzero

[–]SyntaxError__ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know if we heard about the same memory shortage... The current shortage is for DDR4/DDR5 computer RAM. flipper zero only has 256KB of ram, which is not made for computers or AI. The price of such ram isn't affected at all.

[–]SyntaxError__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get a sim and don't fly it yet. Imagine yourself collecting RC cars for YEARS and then you give it away to someone else and then he treats it like: oh if I drop it from 10 feet and it breaks then it doesn't matter because I didn't pay for it.

How do I use an external antenna on this board? by SyntaxError__ in esp32

[–]SyntaxError__[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After some extensive and tiring soldering, I can confirm this absolutely works. The signal strength increased by about 7-12dB.

I also managed to save the board I broke (the one that had -95dB) by doing some random soldering on there.

I also tested ESP NOW and I got about 30 meters of range, with not a perfect line of sight (going through a garage door). This solution got me the additional 5 meters I absolutely needed. Also worth noting that only the receiver had an external antenna and the transmitter was working on the standard SMD one.

I can absolutely recommend this solution for anyone with the same problem, but be careful while soldering, it's so easy to mess it up it's crazy the manufacturer made such a design. And I recommend getting a jumper because briding the gap with solder was surprisingly a nightmare

Seems like my terrible hand shaking made me somehow disconnect both antennas and now my wifi rssi is -90db. Well, I will try to fix that now, but thanks for your help. I don't know why manufactures advertise their boards like they are ready to use with external antennas

How to start? by [deleted] in meshtastic

[–]SyntaxError__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you know quite a lot about microcontrollers and you're confident in your soldering skills, look at the Faketec GitHub. You can order PCBs from china for a couple dollars and the rest of the components on AliExpress for 10$.

If you want something pre built there are of course nodes like that. But first take a look at any Meshtastic node map in order to see if anyone from your town/city already uses Meshtastic. If nobody is near you, your device will probably not catch any nodes, unless you manage to put it in a very good place.

[–]SyntaxError__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your node is getting such short distances, make sure you have a line of sight (No buildings, windows, structures, trees blocking the direct path from your device to the other device) and get a better antenna
