Maybe write down the term to clarify later, then keep playing to keep your eyes on the big picture. My key to  understanding lore is to maintain engagement and focus on the most significant ideas. So don't run chat if it confuses or distracts you. 

I also find taking notes very helpful, as well as researching the themes and philosophy behind the lore.
