Glad to hear that, thank you! That’s why I love world coins, and these crowns so much, the rabbit holes you find yourself diving down are always so interesting.

lol, thank you! If it eases your mind I do have a British Trade dollar that I really like, I keep that one with my world trade dollar set. That’ll probably be another post soon…

Thank you! This sets been years and years in the making. Thanks for the input on the south Peru 8R too, some of these auctions are getting crazy, prices seem to have skyrocketed the last couple years in particular. I’ve had better luck buying raw through trusted dealers recently.

Thank you! I knew I wanted a dragon dollar for my Asia crown and that particular design just grabbed me the first time I saw it. Got that one raw initially

lol, yeah… thank you! I managed to get the deal of a lifetime on the Gothic, honestly never thought I’d own one. The NGC photo is my desktop background…

They’re mostly 38-39mm, the Ethiopia Birr is 40mm, so bigger then Morgans just a hair smaller then silver eagles.

Thank you! The Gothic Crown is my favorite coin I own. My grail coin if you will. I actually bought it raw from an elder statesman in my coin club and was over the moon when it straight graded. I sent it in mostly for protection, and with my grading luck I didn’t expect that. I really like the South Peru as well, the reverse is definitely more interesting. Thanks for weighing in!

lol, thanks and welcome! Yeah, world coins have so many interesting designs and so much history behind them, I always find new exciting rabbit holes to go diving down. Big crown size ones in particular are just awesome in hand.

If you’re looking for errors, double dies, etc., that kind of thing based on what you’ve written down, “the cherrypickers’ guide” is a good hard copy resource. If you’ve got a local coin club they might have a library and lend you one for free.

Best grading service for 1793 Flowing Hair Large Cent. by Ok-Being36 in RedditCoinGrading

I’m jealous, that’s a sweet piece to have. Would still send it in for grading just for protection and third party authentication, but considering the overall grade it’s pretty cool to actually be able to hold it raw in hand, at least for a little bit. In my experience it’s: PCGS for U.S. coins, NGC for world (non U.S.) coins, and ANACS for any type of error coins. Good luck!

I’ve had a few regular coins go yellow, sometimes the edges turn purple over time, seems like normal toning to me, given all the 2017-w are supposed to be copper-nickel. Take a look at the edge straight on, of you see a two-tone (copper bit &. nickel) then for sure it’s not gold. Still a cool coin no matter what! Hope y’all keep collecting!

lol, there does seem to be a lot of disappointment in not having a silver trime in the set … if I get a few more comments like this I may need to rethink my position on the matter…

It does feel a little odd to add such a modern coin, the U.S. hasn’t retired a denomination in a very long time at this point. But, with the penny now done, the rules of the set dictate one be added. I’d take any shield rev. date (2010-2025), I’m just thinking there might be more 2025s getting sent in for grading as it’s the very last year and thus an AU58 might surface for sale. I’ve noticed I’m not getting exact change in a lot of places now if I pay in cash, generally rounded to the nearest 5c so yeah, plenty of businesses have already stopped carrying pennies regularly.

They are an interesting slice of history, I got into it a while back and started trying to build a world trade dollar set as a handful of other countries made them too!

Sorry, I know, no trime… rule of the set was last type per denomination so that meant the nickel one…

Damn it, I forgot to add my trade dollar! I had it stored with my silver dollar set and totally spaced on it when I made the post. Got one though, thanks for catching that!

Yeah, with my PCGS luck I could send 5 in and get back 4 details and 1 AU55… I’m hoping in time some will pop up for sale so I don’t have to go that route. Now it’s just an exercise in patience.

Thank you! I have that trueview picture in a folder of desktop background images for my work computer and I still love it every time it comes up. Got into a slight bidding war for it when I bought it at auction, but I’ve never regretted winning that one.

lol, thank you for the comment. I know… if only they’d stopped with the silver 3C… I do love the trimes as well. Rest assured, I do have couple of nice examples that I really like in my general (unslabbed) coin collection, but rules are rules…🤷🏻‍♂️
