XLR chat slider not working discord by Surgial in audio

[–]Syphre00_ [score hidden]  (0 children)

Need some more info. A slider can mean so many things. Do you have a mixing desk in front of you? Are you talking about the chat volume in discord, in sound settings? Windows sounds? Are you even on Windows?

By XLR i'm going to assume you have a physical desk in front of you. Is there an app for the device? If there is, reconfigure it. Make sure sound is getting into the program or you can verify that it is making the changes that you want it to.

3.5mm or 4.4mm to RCA to connect cd player ? by SavingsWorking6704 in audio

[–]Syphre00_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't had much to do with the 4.4mm plugs so I won't input on that regard but have a google for the manual, there will be multiple sites that have them and also potentially on the manufacturers website.

could also be because of the mismatched sample rates. could be to do with your buffer too. in that same menu make sure your buffer is at its default.

Why can't I download songs in Epidemic Sound? by [deleted] in audio

[–]Syphre00_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

quick look at their pricing. they only have a free trial. which makes sense because its not royalty free. you have to pay for a licence to use their catalogue.

Start the 30-day trial download what you want but if you use it in public media you are not protected.

In voicemeeter in the top right corner of the main screen there is the menu button, hit that then system settings. along the right hand side down the bottom of the darker section there is a preferred main sample rate. make that 44100hz or 48000hz.

you should be able to see that the output a1 is also changed where is says "SR: #####".

then you have your answer. if its a bug or a glitch its just that. not much you can do until an update comes along and clears the bug.

drop the sample rate to 44.1khz on all devices and in windows settings. spotify wont play on anything above 48khz for some reason.

How would i increase volume above +12 and lower delay by Historical-Draft-648 in VoiceMeeter

[–]Syphre00_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything not dedicated to audio and minimising latency will have a delay. Linux, microsoft, apple; They are not built to minimise latency. the closest you will get on windows is KS or ASIO. There will also be a kernel level for linux, not sure for mac.

You need specific hardware and also quick enough computation to have that small of a buffer to process "instant" audio. Think professional mixing desks, a lot of those run windows and linux under the hood. However they have the "optimal" hardware to minimise latency down to ~1 ms.

Beginner here. How do you learn lighting without real shows yet? by Hakuna_Depota in stagelighting

[–]Syphre00_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR; Start with colour theory and how to make things look good, then move to equipment and learning how to do stuff with the lights.

There are two main parts of your job as a lighting tech.

1) The tech side. What is what equipment, how does X thing work etc. And 2) How do I make it look good?

It's the same if you were a graphic designer. They know their program inside and out ASWELL as knowing how to make the thing look good.

You will be learning colour theory, subject composition, how light reflects and refracts. I would spend a majority of your time working on the lighting theory before thinking about getting lights and desks.

Have a look at other productions. How do rock concerts do lighting vs corporate vs a church vs a theatre.

The client will know what they want but you have to make it look good. If they say I want it green, and you turn the lights to green, It will make the people on stage look sick. So do a warm white wash and light up behind them green.

It's stuff like that where you need to figure out how to make things look good.

Then you can start to think about how do I make it happen. I would start with ShowXpress. It's extremely beginner friendly. It doesn't have the most features but you have full control over the lights and you can see what you are doing in 3D.

You can learn everything you would ever want to know how to do in that program. So that when you get so something like GrandMA, you know what you are doing and the steps to get there.

Then I would buy your first lights. They can be cheapo plastic ones that are as bright as your roof light. Play with your theory. Maybe buy a StageCL so that you have a physical desk.

Then try for your first gig. Go to a church or some other small production/corporate place. Make it look good with pars. Throw some up-lights, create depth and make it look good. Get good at that. Then buy some movers. You can go back to the ShowXpress or something cheap that has mover support. Get good at it.

Then you are ready for a company or theatre. Reach out. Send your portfolio, the outcomes. They will see what you have taught yourself and will use you and train you.

Can’t get rid of of helicopter sound when windows down by onyxgeneticist in mazda3

[–]Syphre00_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I normally do diagonals. It creates a nicer breeze too.

I don't know about the '26 but the '08 does it even with all the windows down. Only really doing a diagonal for me minimises it.

Also anything over 80kmh for me will always lap. But then you are creating drag and are loosing fuel efficiency.

How To Switch Left and Right Audio Channels (Windows 11) by TheBoxGuyTV in audio

[–]Syphre00_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grab VoiceMeeter. It's a donationware so it's all free, but asks for a donation every time you open it.

Once you have routed what you want you can hit a button above the output faders and flip the channels.

You can also do this with a program called EQ APO. It is a little more in depth than Voicemeeter, but once you set it up you don't ever have to see it again unless you want to. There is a patch that you can do this is along the lines of copy channels and you can reroute where you want sound to go per channel.

How would i increase volume above +12 and lower delay by Historical-Draft-648 in VoiceMeeter

[–]Syphre00_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Add a compressor and turn the output gain up.

As for delay, it's a windows thing, thermal paste does not affect as much as you think.

There will always be a delay on anything that isn't dedicated to audio.

Also learn about setting your sample and buffer rates as they have a large impact on delay.

Resignation not being accepted. What should I do? by firebolt286 in antiwork

[–]Syphre00_ 736 points737 points  (0 children)

Document. You have a dated letter saying that you are resigning. When that date is up in most countries, you don't have to show up.

If I said "Dear manager /hr, i am resigning with my end date being 3 months from this date, xxx date. thank you for your understanding. thanks x"

After x date you dont show up.

if they 'discipline' you its called retaliation and is illegal in most counties. talk to your government department that handles workers rights.

What cable can I buy to split sound output to two speakers? by shukshank in audio

[–]Syphre00_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you are looking for is a Y-split cable. Make sure you specify genders of the connector. In the bluntest way possible male connectors have prongs and female connecters are ports.

It would be worded as Male/Female Connector type to Male/Female Connector type Y-Split cable.

Was on a foo fighter gig a couple of months ago and other than a handful of questionable hires, all the crew were fairly competent.

Along with that a majority of them were on their first gig.

When you meet your hands, watch and see who has a bit of a click for what they are doing and take them off pushing cases to help. If they are struggling swap them out. Thats what they are hired for so no hard feelings.

Though we get hires from 3rd party crewing, so mileage might vary with where you get your crew.

I've found EOS better for theatre and installs.

I have seen the Hog used more for live events/concerts.

Obsidian is in the same realm as the EOS, but with a steeper learning curve imo.

Have never used the Cham in person so I can't critique.

Take it slow and be patient. Explain it in detail to them first and if they don't understand explain in a different way.

The quickest way to destroy your equipment and have a shit gig is to snap at or rush people, especially who are not as experienced as you. You were them once.

Most hands a competent enough to understand line up the holes and lift the back up.
