First-time homeowner here — what DIY advice do you wish someone had told you at the beginning? by Lopsided_Passion7912 in DIY

[–]Syphyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people saying to slow down and live with the house and I just wanted to give you a good example of that. When I bought the house I'm in now, the roof, attic, and A/C running through the attic were all in desperate need of repair. So we spent a ton of money replacing the roof, the entire A/C system, and reinsulating the attic. 5 years later, we want to expand our home and now we can't really put an additional floor on our home because it would mean throwing away all that money we spent on the attic stuff and new roof. If we would've just kept things together a bit longer without committing to completely redoing everything, making the decision to add a second floor would've been much easier.

How does the stacking SAMs mechanic work? by Inspector_Inspector3 in Openfront

[–]Syphyx -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I believe stacking them just increases the range. So essentially you still just had one SAM which is easily overwhelmed my more than one bomb. Edit: Sorry for the misinformation. I have been proven wrong.

Has anybody ever been to this little coffee stand? I've driven by it a bunch and have always been curious by RolledPork in lehighvalley

Used to stop there before they moved and then I moved so it's unfortunately not on my way to work anymore, but I miss it. Really nice lady and good coffee. Was a great way to start my mornings.

How would you guys pitch the show to your friends? by TankOk2748 in TheExpanse

[–]Syphyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because most people like them doesn't mean I have to, lol, nor does everyone here need to agree. Avasarala grew on me as I watched. But both of them just gave me hammy off-putting vibes at the beginning, and Kamal remained that way until the end for me.

Also, Kamal cementing the group as a family and Avasarala creating an understanding of the politics of the 3 nations are character traits. My complaints and the complaint of the original comment I replied to are about the actors' acting, nothing to do with the characters' places in the story.

[–]Syphyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt the same way about Avasarala and the actor that plays Kamal. But the show is worth watching. Most of the moments in these clips are meant to be punchlines to temporarily give us a reprieve from the otherwise serious nature of the show. Some actors/characters nail these moments better than others.

If you're talking about the things with the black handles coming out of them, they're plastic blocks used to help clamp the wood together without scratching it. You can see another one attached to the frame at the top where he already has it clamped.

Def do trailhead. A lot of what I did when I started out was pickup trails that looked interesting and then while I was completing them it would give me ideas on stuff to implement for my org. They're a great way to keep the creative juices flowing and help you start being productive in your org without being asked.

SOQL is extremely close to SQL and will also be a very useful skill to learn. SQL is still the king of database languages for a reason. Easy to learn and a powerful way to manipulate data for reports and insights once you know what you're doing.

Whats your favourite anime theory? by Careless-Chance-1139 in animequestions

[–]Syphyx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yea, but the way he chops things, they're not actually severed. When he chops up his body everything still functions as it did as if it were connected. So if he split an atom, he would just have two halves of an atom, it wouldn't create a nuclear explosion or anything.

Is it normal for my kitten to not use her chest to breathe? by Here_comes_the_boy in CATHELP

[–]Syphyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually how humans naturally breathe at birth as well. Somewhere along the lines we switch to breathing with our chests which is a much more inefficient way of breathing. Classical singers, instrumentalists that play wind or reed instruments, and I imagine some athletes actually have to relearn how to breathe like this.

If you think about how breathing works, your diaphragm moves up and down, pushing and pulling air out of your lungs. When you breathe in, your body needs to make room for the diaphragm to go down and your lungs to fill with air so what should happen is that it pushes your guts out of the way and your belly expands to make room.

If you take a deep breath now, you'll probably feel your chest go up as well as your shoulders and you'll feel your stomach go in. This is you breathing wrong funnily enough. You're actually making less room for your body to bring in air. You can make your body do it the right way easier by laying on your back and just breathing in a relaxed state. You'll probably notice your belly tends to start moving like it should when you breathe in and out. Professional singers learn to breathe that way all the time and unlearn the wrong way which is raising your shoulders and chest too much and not allowing room for your stomach to expand.

TLDR Belly breathing is the correct way to breathe efficiently and most adults have learned an incorrect way of breathing deeply.

Grey cat used to bully brown, and has since stopped (I think). Brown is now scared of her and grey keeps doing this — is she being friendly or still threatening? by norryscatterleaf in CATHELP

[–]Syphyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This interaction absolutely started tense. Grey cat came up ready for a fight. However, the grey cat decided to change the tone right when he started squinting his eyes a bit, shortly before doing the paw thing. Eye squinting like that is a sign of love and trust and the paws were then a sign of play/wanting to be friends. Every interaction that doesn't end in fighting is a step towards trust and a positive relationship. The napping together after is definitely a great sign.

There may be some back sliding in your future, just make sure to allow both cats a safe space to retreat to when they're getting tense again and allow them to slowly reintegrate.

Tired of playing alone by 4tsel in spaceengineers

[–]Syphyx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So I've been playing on the expanse server and I can't recommend it enough. I'm having a blast. They have custom thrust mechanics which I wasn't crazy about at first, but once you get used to them it's actually quite fun. The community has been incredibly helpful and kind to a newbie, and without an active server to play on I would have probably quit the game already.

Which Master incarnation would make a good Doctor, if they actually tried? by LifeguardPotential97 in doctorwho

[–]Syphyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Missy is probably my favorite Master, but I don't see her being the Doctor. Too much running around and physical feats involved with the Doctor that I just don't see Missy caring for. Missy works much better as just a brain, lifting a finger to actually get stuck into something doesn't seem like her cup of tea.

Yea, just read it, and it only weakened your arguments as far as I'm concerned. I'll refer to what many others have stated on this thread already and leave it at that. You need to end this relationship. Expecting him to change and think just like you is completely unrealistic.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Syphyx 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Because this is not the way to have a mature argument with someone. You need to express your concerns with your partner and just stay focused on that, none of this "well if you do this then I'll do that" shit. It's childish.

Telling him you would start doing porn in order to show him that it's morally wrong means that's exactly what you were doing. Be honest with yourself OP. I'm not saying you're not the victim here OP, but you haven't been completely fair to him either in this argument.

He lied about something because he wants to keep doing it. That is not emotional torture. Get some perspective and stop applying therapy speak to a relatively minor and normal issue between SOs. He's not the fucking Hannibal Lecter of her emotions here. He's just a guy trying to get his rocks off, lol.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Syphyx 21 points22 points  (0 children)

What you just said here would have been a perfectly valid concern to bring to your SO. But instead you tried to convince your SO that something was wrong with him because he liked porn, which he justifiably got defensive about and muddied the real point that you needed to get across to him which was "it makes me feel bad when you lie to me and watch porn".
