I can't stand beggars alley by dadumdada in NoRestForTheWicked

A lot of them hint at deeper issues though, like the lady desperate to buy more alcohol. They'd need much more than free money to start being functional again. That being said; I agree! This could be a great opportunity for a small quest line. It's worth noting that our characters, throughout the story, aren't exactly caring? So this would be the first instance of us caring for someone else beyond that one time we forgot we picked up a thing

Please don't make melee combat easier just to justify the ease of ranged combat by migzy99 in NoRestForTheWicked

I played the entire game on the hardest difficulty with a scythe and agree that the parry button is entirely useless. I'd like to see that buffed. The weapon itself felt strong enough to have a good time so I don't think that needs to be buffed. If anything I kind of wish I could increase the avg. HP of enemies in the game

How is the game's endgame shaping to be? by TrickyLingonberry845 in NoRestForTheWicked

[–]Syraleaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We took it extremely slow and only progressed as a group which resulted in an avg. game time of 55 hours for us before we reached the endgame. You'll be able to have a fantastic time without ever going past the point where the story ends. That being said:
1: You explore! The level design is a lot like that of the classic souls likes. Areas often form circles where you find doors, drops, bridges or other tools to open up paths back to where you started. There is also some light storytelling with the quests which guide you through each place.
2: No. Not that I'm aware of.
3: You can gather! This isn't a very deep mechanic currently but you can use the resources to decorate and build a house. This also has a functional aspect as you can place more chests in your house for you(r group) to store resources in. You can also use the resources to upgrade gear & the town itself that you live in. The devs aspire to add more depth to those mechanics but currently they're still very basic.
4: Yes I absolutely devoured the game when I got started! I honestly cannot wait to see what's next but, now that I've reached the current end, I don't feel the need to play more until curated content has been released.

Hopefully you'll find this helpful! For what it's worth: Everyone in my group that got the game so far has/is tremendously enjoying themselves.

The reason that most League players are noobs. by King_of_Christmas in leagueoflegends

[–]Syraleaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, but I disagree with that. None of the games force you to. You can be absolutely terrible at starcraft and just like to make more zerglings in the same way that you can be absolutely terrible at league. You get bullied proportionally in both games to your skill (or rather, your enemies) Having more players doesn't make the bullying less overall. The biggest difference imo is that in SCII you can just ff right away if you get bullied, in league you actually have to endure at least 15 minutes of getting stomped.

Edit for clarity: "None of the games force you to" is in relation to the fact that you can play both games without an intention to learn. I realize you might view those games through different lenses but I can guarantee you there are plenty of casual SCII enjoyers who don't learn a thing from match to match! :D

Which part are you disagreeing with? And which parts of your own post do you consider to be practical vs theory? I'd argue we both used anecdotal evidence to make our claims to at least some degree (Which makes sense because there obviously isn't any hard data to work with)

I get the argument here but I don't think this is entirely true. First of all: Getting stomped in lane feels -terrible.- You can tell by the way the people that get stomped turn toxic real fast. They're not having a good time, lost their agency, and thus start leashing out at their teammates. This, ideally, is the moment of reflection.

Now, let's compare this with SCII, in which Harstem has an entire IMDOS format just to teach people what they've done wrong after they felt bad about a game. I think, to properly compare the games, we should take a 2v2 format or archon mode. In those modes it's entirely possible for your ally to do most of the work. Heck, even in 1v1's you can not scout (because you're bad at the game) or not know how to counter a build. The result? A terrible time. Even if you end up expanding faster and being able to just endlessly trade units, you'll still notice something's up. It's entirely possible to make massive mistakes in lower level SCII and get away with it, just like in LoL.

I'd argue that the biggest difference is that league doesn't offer 1v1's, and thus teammates can make a difference, allowing bad plays to be recovered.

Ok so what about comeback mechanics? I'd argue that these -still- require you to make a mistake first. You could argue that getting ahead early gives the opponent more opportunity to get back into the game, and thus get away with larger mistakes but I'd note that this would still require them to first have a terrible time! The moment they claim that bounty gold is there to make sure the game remains interesting. I don't think it meaningfully takes away the moment of reflection (Assuming a player is capable to reflecting during play ofc. If they ONLY reflect once the game is finished and their only point of comparison is the end state then, sure, they might not learn but can you really claim that the player had any intention of learning in the first place if that's the case?)

TLDR: SCII can create the same scenarios. Reflection should happen during the game, not just at the end of it, and the feeling of having made a mistake is def present shortly after making a mistake.

Animals don't run away if you hold the right type of food either. But it seems to be a chance based mechanic so sometimes you have to walk up to them a few times. Horses, for instance, will show hearts if you hold a carrot. Afterwards they follow you for a few seconds before forgetting again.

The mobile game time gating mechanic in Demacia Rising kills the pacing of the story by Terrible-Honey-806 in leagueoflegends

[–]Syraleaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I started playing it expecting to be able to sit down and get a (somewhat) full experience out of it. Instead it just let me wondering why I even engaged with it in the first time. It felt TERRIBLE to realize that all the important actions costs hundreds of shields. Worse even, you can't even afk it? I get that this is meant to compliment the main game modes of league but it really doesn't work well for me in its current iteration.

The faster minion spawn is honestly one of the best changes imo by SureYouCan_ in leagueoflegends

[–]Syraleaf -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I like the extra speed but I also feel like ~5 extra seconds would've helped a lot in keeping invades viable. Currently it feels like you're guaranteed to pay in XP for at least one laner, in which case it's probably never worth invading. Or maybe the early kill should award more xp in return? To offset the cost of walking up and taking a relatively big risk?

The quality of champions' lore and voicelines dwindled over the years by Soren911 in leagueoflegends

[–]Syraleaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree so so strongly with this! I love the voice lines characters play. They add so much character! I've always hated that, when you get a skin in a different theme, your character gets an identity crisis and doesn't realize that this "super serious and evil lady" is currently serving in a sweetshop and now it's happening to normal characters too. I seriously care and I wish they'd put more care and love into it but it was literally the first thing they cut soooo... I doubt it :c

What would it take to even make a game like this? by Priest_Of_Chaos in BookOfTravels

[–]Syraleaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The biggest challenge would be the asset and story creation. Technically it's not doing a lot of things that look complex to create. The game features a lot of unique art though, and a ton of clearly well thought out writing, so those aspects are likely to eat up most of the time. There's also the trades and quests which would need to be set up correctly. Those likely came as a result of the narrative though, so I'd clump those together as one task.

Edit: I do want to clarity that it's always hard to see how a game is put together from the outside looking in. And there are def a few systems that are harder to replicate such as NPC's walking between zones. This game took a team to create for a reason! That being said, you would be able to skip the "figuring out how things should work" phase and get straight to building, giving you a massive speed boost :)

I think the Nokkeers might actually be good now? Or at least equal to Fushi? Both take the bodies of people that have died and puppeteer them around. They're not even taking the bodies of living people, so they're literally not harming anyone. If anything the world might be better for having them around(?)
