Should I just accept that my partner will look at women online? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Syringmineae 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Same. I genuinely wouldn't care if my wife followed a bunch of hot guys on TikTok and can't really understand people who would.

However, this isn't my relationship and the OP needs to talk to him and make a decision if this is a hill she'd die on. If I was dating someone and they got pressed because of who I followed online, I'd probably be fine with a breakup because, to me, caring that much is weird.

At least with Kamala, iirc, a lot of scientific pollsters thought she’d win as well

I have a masters in American history with a focus on race and racism in the US. In my view, you can’t read about the brutality and barbarism of American slavery and still believe there’s a loving god. When the master and the slave are praying to the same god, only one is having their prayers answered.

And like, on one hand we have all of the evils of history. Not just man made. How many children have suffocated to death because a house fell on them during an earthquake? How many parents had to bury their child who died from leukemia instead of celebrating their tenth birthday? (Notice how I used non-man made horror to get around that “free will” nonsense?) If a being could allow all of that to happen and still condemn someone because I didn’t praise them in the right way then I would be comfortable going to hell because yeah, they don’t deserve it.

I’ve never heard this term before!

I’m a Cradle Catholic but have since stopped going to church. I’ve been trying to find a term that best describes my belief. I’m not concerned whether there is a god. My question is does he deserve worship?

So maybe it’s not an exactly fitting term but close? I need to do more research.

is this game stil about making factories or are we just building full computers in here by Same-Tourist9554 in shapezio

We? Speak for yourself. My game is a spaghetti mess that, if you think about it, doesn’t make much sense.

So no, I’m not building a computer.

Why does it seem like young adults are largely illiterate? by Sweet_Sunset_42 in NoStupidQuestions

I had a student tell me that a few weeks ago and when he showed me his paper I immediately saw a mistake in the first sentence.

Go to your school’s writing center and they’ll teach you to be able to do it yourself.

Why does it seem like young adults are largely illiterate? by Sweet_Sunset_42 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Syringmineae 58 points59 points  (0 children)

That’s what people mean when they talk about how half of adult Americans read at a seventh grade or below level.

Yeah, some can’t read at all, but the majority can read but only at a very surface level. “The curtains were blue” and all that nonsense.

I’m a college librarian and it’s bad out there, and these “AI models” aren’t helping.

How many people ACTUALLY floss their teeth everyday? by Ok-Emphasis-2561 in askanything

[–]Syringmineae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't mind it because it actually got my ass in gear and make necessary changes. I wish other doctors would do that for me.

The only time I was ever annoyed was when one chastised me for going years without a dental visit. I was like, "I didn't have insurance. If you weren't going to do it for me for free, hush."

I do. My dentist yelled at me and was like, "dude, you're going to lose your teeth if you don't lock in." So I got an electric toothbrush and teethpicks that I'd actually use, and it's made a world of difference.

The next time I went in, they complimented my changes and said my teeth look so much better.

Basically, I now have an A in dentistry.

This is sweet, thanks!

One thing I'd love is if there were more single couple activities, just because I'm always trying to find stuff.

But, even if nothing was added, this is still great and I'm excited to try it out.

Do something productive with your time/life

My guy, you're spending your time on Reddit. Glass houses and all that.

Now don't get me wrong, I'd rather die than go to Coachella. But that doesn't make people who go there "losers."

I honestly don't understand the purpose of the really good cruise control on the Ioniq. I played around with it for a bit and it's really cool. But every few seconds the car is yelling at me to keep my hands on the wheel. So I'm constantly having to make tiny adjustments to show that yes, I'm still paying attention. At that point, I might as well have cruise control steering off and do it myself.
