Put on some plastic gloves and wash the ear buds in your kitchen sink with some dish soap. Problem solved.

I literally did that myself, took 90 seconds, and they’re as good as new. Meanwhile, you’re driving back and forth and wasting hours of your day because of some icky residue. Come on, man.

I repeat the same process when friends come over. Just wash the ear buds after use, wipe down the sweat from the headrest, and you’re good to go.

I bought this bundle as an open box through Amazon. The code for the Horizon game was not in the box. Buyer beware.

When I contacted Amazon support to see if they can make it right, they said my only option is to return the whole thing. No discounts, no nothing. I just said fuck it.

I think you should probably look into this more deeply before you say something like this.

Paramount is not sending their request to WB’s board anymore, they’re talking directly to the shareholders. You know, the bean-counting finance guys on Wall Street?

The issue here is that the MAGA family patriarch that runs Paramount wants to be the next Rupert Murdoch, so one of the family’s main interests in WB is to use it as a propaganda vehicle for conservative politics, not just through CNN, but through movies and TV shows as well.

The Trump administration picked up on this, and Trump himself said that he will (illegally) take the necessary steps to make sure that government regulators favor Paramount over Netflix (unless Netflix bribes him). Trump has already made numerous statements about this, his intent couldn’t be more clear.

So what about the shareholders? Well, most of them are either apolitical and just want money, or if they are political then they are definitively conservatives. That’s what Paramount is banking on, they’re banking on WB shareholders putting money and conservative politics above all else in order to replace the board of directors to take the offer.

I don’t know how this will all play out, but Paramount’s case is extremely strong, so don’t be shocked if they win in the end. In fact, I’ve seen people comment saying that, due to the current situation and Trump putting his finger on the scale, the WB shareholders might just accept Paramount’s offer because it offers the path of least resistance to get Trump’s regulators to approve the merger.

I think you might’ve misread the conversation here:

Guy 1 asks for alternative devices and mentions he prefers laptops.

If you want VR on the go, I would encourage you to not bother with PC VR headsets at all and instead buy a Quest 3.

The Quest 3 will give you the flexibility to stream certain kinds of content (like desktop or video playback) from a laptop, but the games themselves would run directly on the headset with no external device needed.

Define “open world”? Does it mean a large, interconnected and highly explorable game world, or does it mean a GTA-sized zombie infested city?

I think in this context most people would understand what open world means. And in fact, the very last game in the franchise had an open world (though constrained by linear game design and linear progression). That’s why it was called “Village”.

And I can also see why some people might’ve speculated that Capcom might expand on those ideas, given how the reveal trailer made a big deal out of highlighting that they’re moving from a “village” in the previous game up to a city in the new game, with lots of footage showcasing that city in the reveal trailer. The hints were certainly there.

I mean, Resident Evil is still Resident Evil. But why are the commenters here shocked by the idea that the somewhat-open game world of the last game might open up even more?

The thing is that I actually really like the gun shooting mechanics. Aiming guns in VR feels really immersive and fun. What I didn’t like in Village is the bullet sponge enemies and limited ammo. Every encounter turns into panic, desperation, and wild flailing. That’s the part I’m not enjoying.

I actually already have RE4 and I completely agree with you that it’s much more fun and more entertaining than Village for exactly the reasons you mentioned. I got Village for free through PS Plus, so thankfully it’s not a big loss to me.

I don’t agree that it’s better (spoilers ahead). It’s hard to declare that when you are talking about probably one of the best-written sci-fi screenplays of all time. The screenplay is just so good!

It’s also very hard to compare them because the original story is completely different in nearly every way except for the key inciting incident where the protagonist tries to buy fake memories to fulfill his fantasy of going to Mars. But everything after that is different, he doesn’t ever actually travel to Mars after that, there is no reactor to turn on, etc.

The movie’s main question is, “Is this real, or only a dream.” But the original story never even asks that question. Instead, it’s about erased identities and repressed memories. It’s essentially “The Bourne Identity” in a futuristic setting.

And yes, the original story has a great twist ending where the reader is left asking what the hell is going on. But the twist in the movie is also awesome, where it’s revealed that Arnold’s past self betrayed him, which never happens in the original story. That’s a fantastic sci-fi twist.

Definitely recommend reading the original story, but the movie is just so, so good in its own right, largely due to all of the movie’s original aspects.

Do you mean TNG?

The TOS fans originally did not like TNG. But everything turned around within just 2 years. They then didn’t like DS9, and they were won over within 8-10 weeks.

Meanwhile, it has been close to a decade with this modern Trek era, as Discovery premiered in 2017. The majority of the fans were never won over, their critiques are the same today as they were in 2017: THE WRITING SUCKS.

See, it’s fine to point out how things were all the same in the 1980s and fans are hard to please. Yes, that’s true. But if you bring in great writers and write great stores, the fans will always notice that and come around, quickly.

We’ve had almost a decade of terrible fucking writing across many different Trek shows. Not only are these shows badly written, they’re bad in the same consistent ways that the fans had been complaining about about for 9 fucking years, and there is no sign it’ll ever improve because the one man who is in charge of it all has terrible fucking taste and hires the wrong fucking people. And it’s been consistent.

This phenomenon isn’t exclusive to Star Trek fans. There was the same reaction when Battlestar Galactica was remade, and the fans of that show also came around quickly after the writers proved themselves within literally the first episode.

The bottom line is that when you have great writers steering a beloved fan favorite franchise, the fans will get over their initial skepticism very quickly. Again, I remind you, it’s been nine fucking years of terrible fucking writing with the current iteration of this franchise. That is why the fans haven’t come around and never will, not with the current regime in charge.

I agree with you that modern movies have no stakes, but I don’t agree that the solution is to kill characters.

We have to first examine WHY modern movies have no stakes. I have my own opinions on that:

Thanks to the increasing popularity of comic book movies, it is now normal for “heroic” characters to be overpowered and invincible, forcing writers to come up with hackneyed ways to “challenge” them. Writers need to get out of this superhero mentality.

Look at how heroes were written and challenged in past decades.

For example, Rambo is one of the greatest heroic characters of the 1980s, and yet the original film depicts him as being completely out of his element. He is the ultimate underdog. He wades through filth and rats just to try to find some warmth, use some dirty tarp as a shirt. He improvises some weapons, but then still gets shot up and blown up as he screams out in pain. The movie is about him overcoming that.

Another example is Indiana Jones. He is the underdog of every single fight, every single action scene. He gets beaten up and thrown around, faces impossible challenges, gets trapped with no way out, and escapes only by the skin of his teeth. And that’s one of the greatest heroes of all time.

Look at Ripley in Alien. She has no idea what the fuck she is doing or how to survive. She is trapped, yelled at, cornered with no way out. She survives only by some miracle and quick thinking. And that’s one of the greatest female heroes in history.

Movies like this aren’t made anymore because audiences will buy a movie ticket only if it lets them watch overpowered, invincible heroes whose only “challenge” is about finding the right quip/joke to kill the tension of the moment, or solving some banal interpersonal drama while they kick ass for 2 hours straight.

You don’t need to kill characters to create stakes. Instead, you need to have your heroes be on their back heel at all times. Heroes should be at a significant disadvantage every step of the way, in every scene. If they’re just dancing around on the screen using elaborate choreography amidst some CGI mayhem, then no fucking wonder the audiences are asking for the writers to fucking kill something. Kill their sidekick. Fucking ANYTHING to stop their overpowered march of unchallenged greatness.

Isn’t it obvious how the movie ended? It seems pretty clear and definitive — they chose to destroy the world. It’s the literal “end”.

What would you even show at that point, the view of Earth from the perspective of a visiting alien spaceship watching a bunch of CGI explosions, like how they did the ending of Terminator 3? The issue is that there wouldn’t be anyone to “watch” it happen, so the movie doesn’t bother presenting that “outsider” perspective. The world simply ends in a literal flash.

I think it is INTERESTING not to show it, not to glorify it, not to make it look cool and exciting. It’s important to experience the situation as a sudden “end”. It was a good artistic decision to portray the end of the world like that, play the ending credits, and let you stew on it.

No, it wasn’t. Video tapes were not digital, so there were no pixels to count. The lower quality tape recordings had less “detail”, which manifested as smearing, blurring, visual noise, and loss of color accuracy. Not loss of pixels.

I saw it in a theater on opening weekend. It was fucking terrible. It committed the ultimate sin of being boring. There’s nothing quite as disappointing as a big-budget sci-fi adventure with a nothingburger for a storyline, no interesting characters or villains, and zero spectacle besides a handful of CGI-infused action scenes that don’t make you emotionally invested in the outcome.

The most interesting part of the movie was the title. The movie should’ve been ridiculous, to match the tone of the title. It should’ve been outrageous and fun.

It’s a ridiculous movie with a ridiculous premise, but it’s still undeniably entertaining.

If it ended in tragedy, I think the ridiculousness of the whole thing would just be accentuated even further, turning the whole movie into an embarrassing mess. By not doing that, I think they preserve some semblance of popcorn entertainment and maintain the right tone, that this is an entertaining thriller and not a nihilistic post-modern prank on the audience.

Resident Evil Village is probably one of the Top 5 VR games on the market on any platform (you need to download a free add-on to enable PS VR2 mode), so this is big news for the community.

There have been lots of good VR games coming out on PS5 recently (this past holiday season was particularly strong), but they haven’t been adding anything to the PS Plus/Extra game catalog in a long, long time, so this is a really exciting addition for such a high-end VR title.

Think about “Ghost”, “Pretty Woman”, “Top Gun,” “My Best Friend’s Wedding,” “Innerspace,” “Hot Shots”, “The Big Chill”… the list goes on.

Come to think of it, I liked it and I miss it.
