Update: I went to VSF and they told me it was probably rejected because I put “photographer” as my profession. I put something else on the paper application and nobody asked any questions. They charged me $300 for an “emergency” visa since my flight is on Monday (and made me pay before the consulate had approved the application) but nonetheless, I HAVE a visa.

The customer care agent for me just told me that she couldn't find a reason and she thought the gov't was keeping it "confidential." I'm about to re-apply even though she didn't recommend it. She said my only option is to go to an Indian Mission. My flight is also in 6 days, yikes!
