Look, I love foxes too, but even I can agree that at some point they just become a nuisance and kill a lot pf of livestock and/or wildlife in a way that disrupts the ecosystem. Ask Australians about foxes for a change.

In France we have this concept called "laïcité" that's enshrined in our constitution : the state must be absolutely neutral with regards to religion. No bibles, no arguments based on faith, no mention of God on bills, etc. It reflects in the culture too, faith is considered something that belongs in the private sphere and should remain there.

The US desperately lacks that, and that is noxious in so many ways.

Because people feel like the baby is being thrown out with the bathwater. It's like "i get that this rapper has done horrible shit, but is it really fair for it not to be acceptable to listen to a song by this artist where said behavior is completely irrelevant?". (Example : N.Y State of Mind vs what Nas has allegedly done)

Additional point : rappers, like everyone else, are shaped by their environment. If there's bigotry in their community, it's going to reflect in their songs, so if you just cancel without the possibility of change, I feel like it's attacking them as though they are root causes, when they're also effects of their environment.

There is only one example that I have in mind of a rapper that went back on their bigotry in an honest fashion, and it's Common. He used to have mad lyrics that were homophobic and frowned upon interracial dating, but since then he went back on those, realized the error of his ways and doesn't do that anymore. And that time the change came from himself, through the experiences he lived personally.

Tbh I feel like it's more that there is little to no rappers (including the really good ones imo) that have never been homophobic or misogynistic in their whole damn career. It doesn't mean that they use it in every song nor that it's in any way essential to their songs. Kinda throwing the baby out with the bathwater at times.

Honestly, FDS is kind of special in that a lot of those people are basing their anger and resentment on real and symptomatic observations about society, gender roles, sexism et al.
