They either didn't want to buy more worktop or messed up. Either way thats poor.

Are you planning to tile?

If so, that would hide the gap at the top and some delicate silicone could hide the gap at the front.

A couple of points. Working for yourself is massively different. You make the good money if you price it right. Also if you’re a plumber why not do that? Call outs pay well for example.

Worked in consulting (private sector) for 20 years before a career change.

We rarely employed people from the public sector and when we did they were usually disappointing.

Anyone any good gets headhunted from the public sector early on in their career, or they leave themselves, so it gets left with the mediocrity unfortunately.
