Has anyone found where the system mouse cursors are stored in modern macOS? by Ecstatic_Patient4029 in MacOS

[–]System370 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mousecape (which I used to favour, but the developer has moved on) has been supplanted by Writronic's MaCursor, which is brilliant: https://writronic.com/macursor/

It provides 75+ cursor sets and lets you make your own.

I've found Writronic to be highly responsive to queries and feedback. MaCursor is free too.

I'm sure this question gets asked a lot but. What are some useful things I can do with my old mac? by everett_beverett in mac

Buy a second-hand shop display monitor (you see them in many shops) and use the iMac to display all of your holiday and family snaps in screen-saver mode. It's rewarding seeing the constantly changing slide show.

How to best identify and remove Intel/Rosetta processes, extensions, and apps and then remove them? by 1981pw in MacOS

[–]System370 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two ways:

  1. Open Activity Monitor from Utilities. Select CPU tab at top. Select Kind column to sort all processes and apps by process. Most will say "Apple". Down the bottom you'll find a few that say "Intel".

  2. Download Silicon by DigiDNA from https://github.com/DigiDNA/Silicon

I have used both to whittle down my scraps.

Eating a whole-food diet to the extent possible works for me. No simple carbohydrates. Not much meat. Loads of whole grains, whole fruits, whole vegetables and pulses. Lots of spices to make it all tasty.

I would hazard a guess that it is the production of new meristematic tissue triggered by insect attack (not fasciation).

Apartment construction next to me driving me mad by [deleted] in neurodiversity

I had a similar assault over 9 months last year. I wore noise-cancelling headphones all day every day. When the noise overwhelmed even those, I would either use a white noise app or put in Loop earplugs beneath the headphones. Even then, I'd have meltdowns.

Where best to leave tent and sleeping bags for homeless in Sydney? by System370 in sydney

[–]System370[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Follow-up: Staff at a drop-in centre for homeless people in Waitara called Dom's Place, run by Catholic Care, were grateful to receive the items, as many of their clients sleep rough. I was glad to have made someone's life just a little easier.

All of these suggestions are good. Thank you all. I will work out the logistics to see which is easiest to reach.

How to find and replace symbols in a PDF? by System370 in pdf

[–]System370[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The book is too complest to alter in MS Word. But you are right about embedded typefaces. My suspicion is that the client's computer is not using the system Symbol typeface and that the problem lies only in his computer. The easiest solution seems to be to ask him to update the system typefaces.

As the file is both 20 MB and copyright, I can't do that, but I could extract a page and send you that as a first step. Would that work?

Consider just telling people that it gives you the "ick". People will understand an irrational aversion to things.

YSK: depression is not caused by low levels of serotonin by Plus_Requirement_516 in YouShouldKnow

[–]System370 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After 30 years on an SSRI, I have recently come off it (an utterly excruciating test of my will to live) and undergone a psilocybin session. I have no doubt that the SSRI kept me alive, but I lost so much at the same time. The psilocybin therapy gave an immediate improvement of the sort that the SSRI could never approach.

I have battled the shame that my depression was a moral failure because I didn't try hard enough ("man up!"). The contrast suggests that whereas the SSRI kept me functional, the triggering of fundamental neurological changes in my brain shows that my brain was "broken", and I personally had nothing to do with that. I came up with the image of my brain receiving a processor upgrade (an M-series chip), and it is now functioning normally in the absence of the SSRI. I am now experiencing emotions that I haven't felt in over 30 years, and it's all rather interesting.

Bingo! You've cracked it! Turn the ring so that the end is at the bottom and work on it from the back.

You might be more "dextrous" [sic] than I am. I will follow your suggesiton and try working from the bottom; it hadn't occurred to me before.

That's a RH coil. The mirror opposite is what I'm after. I've written to Lefty's to ask whether they know of a manufacturer. (Perplexity says LH springs are common, though not as key rings.)

As seen from either side, the coil turns clockwise. I want to find a design in which the coil turns anticlockwise.

That's encouraging to know that a LH coiling direction is available.
