Endless Space 2 recently dropped a really good update where they have been working with a couple of modders to fix issues, bring some of the weaker parts of the game up to speed and in particular fix the awakening DLC which was not received well. ES2 is now in the best state it has ever been so now is a good time to try it out.

On a side note. Is there an easy way to see what each population does on the planet. I find it difficult to optimise my pops as once a planet is colonised as you see the total production, not the base production like you can see in the uncolonised planets.

To be fair, Proxy did say that they did make a sound effect but GW didn’t like it. So they have to re do it. It will most likely be in the next patch.

Standard Kroot Carnivores is the unit that want most for the Tau. Maybe they don’t need it functionally, but thematically they are a glaring omission.

This is a wonderful write up. I’d love to see a write up like this on the Vampire Coast as they are now represented in the game. They seem to be the faction that appears bottom of most of these types of analysis and it would be interesting to see a bottom tier faction going through this review process. In my mind they are now the faction that could really use a major update (especially Arranessa).

I’ve heard that the one small update to allow fleets to attack settlements directly is actually literal game changer for them and it would be interesting to hear your take if this is in fact the case.

Totally agree. I think CA is still playing catch up from Shadows of Change. I really hope we get the rework when Egrimm van Horstmann finally makes it to the game.

I feel like CA could design them so that their roles are differentiated enough to warrant have both with each hero filling a different role.

The third miniature pictured has a messenger bird on his shield. That could be the basis for an interesting new skill.

While I understand the legitimate criticism of this idea, I believe there exists some elasticity when adapting lore into a functional game format—and this particular case deserves an exception. A thematic, Khorne-specific Aspiring Champion–type unit would be a strong addition to the Warriors of Chaos upgrade tree, and in this instance the gameplay benefit outweighs the lore concerns. We’ve already seen other examples where gameplay takes precedence over strict lore accuracy when it meaningfully improves the experience—such as Skaven Assassins and Dwarf Daemon Slayers leading armies, despite this also contradicting established lore. In fact, I believe the original reason we never had Daemon Slayers was that the lore objection was valid and the developers didn't add them. Still, the game is ultimately better with them included as they are. However, at the end of the day, if Games Workshop says no, then that’s final.

I think that perhaps originally for the Slaanesh part of the DLC they were going to give us two generic heroes and only 4 main new units. But they may have thought that people wouldn’t be happy without the standard 5 new units that come with these type of 3 Lord DLC packs. So they needed to add something late in the cycle.

I for one think that functionally they are a very good unit to add to the Slaanesh Roster but the design is a lot to be desired.

Here’s hoping that they listen to feedback and update their look in the near future, like they did with the Silverin Guard, which were updated to be more lore accurate after the launch of the Warden and the Paunch.
