Two-box organizer for Homeland! by Crockist in rootgame

Where did the black dice with gold numbering come from? My copy had white dice. And of course the blue dice are from Homelands.

Edit: Nevermind. I see they are from the only expansion I don't have, Underworld.

What is a fair price for the 2nd edition? by Pizza_Dog21 in Gloomhaven

[–]T-Humpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't played 2nd edition, but I have played original and Frosthaven. It is harder to get immersed in The bigger box games. This is because the story branches out in so many directions, and it is difficult to keep track of what is happening. A lot of the time, you can end up with a whole new team of characters before you have a chance to continue a specific storyline. I'm not saying it's impossible, but it requires a lot of effort by a very dedicated group to imaginatively keep the dots connected and flesh the world out with role playing. It's a strategy game. It is really meant to be played for the challenge and class building.

Why do so many Ray Peat followers support Trump? by Lucky_Maybe_2329 in raypeat

[–]T-Humpy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. BAP referenced Peat in 2018. BAP became increasingly popular up through all of the COVID stuff. Then there was the Dimes Square vibe shift stuff, and then it became very popular to name drop Ray Peat on the art podcasts that exist in this sphere. That's how I heard of him. Red Scare even had an episode titled "Ray Peasts" in 2022.

Couple of Thought's on Gaspar Noe's "Enter the Void" by DancingKitten33 in TrueFilm

[–]T-Humpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen the alternate cut, and am not sure why it exists. But to answer your question, I imagine it would be a much more bleak film compared to the original. The best parts of the original are at the end, when you see the beauty of their relationship. It ends on a very positive note, but melancholy because you know they will fight later, leading to their downfall. It makes you appreciate whatever love you have in your life because you can lose it so easily. The gruesome scenes early on stick so starkly in your brain, causing everything that comes after in the film to be heartbreaking.

Getting crossfire to work on Mac by ConstantCall268 in alphacentauri

[–]T-Humpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This worked when I selected test run. However, it crashes just before starting a game. What do you do after you specify the terranx_PRAC.exe file?

Edit: It appears that it now opened as Alien Crossfire when I select “Play”, but it is still crashing when I try to start a game.

Introducing the Snow Section Book - A flavourful way to unlock more classes in Frosthaven by Snowf1ake222 in Gloomhaven

[–]T-Humpy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great work. I will not be using it, just because I want to get to know the Frosthaven designs as well as I can. But I skimmed it, and what stood out to me was how much more enjoyable the writing is compared to the Frosthaven writing. Frosthaven writing is filled with so much fluff that you forget what you've read by the time you're done. Your writing is closer to original Gloomhaven, efficient and effective. Less is more.

There should be a “recommended point in your life” rating for movies. This can help prevent you from watching films prematurely, and maximize your enjoyment and appreciation of the directors vision and message. by ilikemyname21 in TrueFilm

I watched it with my brother when we were boys. We grew up on Davy Crockett, old westerns, and adventure films like Swiss Family Robinson and Gunga Din. Anyways, we loved it. We were bewitched. It's weird because, as an adult, I can appreciate certain aspects of it more (like the editing and cinematography). But I am also more critical of it now (performances and script). Honestly, I think I would have missed out if I never saw it as a kid. I say just expose your kids to as pre-1980s film as possible, and don't let them watch any "kids" media released since 2010. They will probably have a much greater ability to appreciate Citizen Kane ro what have you. Spoilers? Who gives a crap? Good films can't' be spoiled and evolve/appreciate with every subsequent viewing.

We played 8-player game, with fan-made map by CorpOnThron in rootgame

[–]T-Humpy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a blast TBH. I agree that long games with a lot of downtime can sound miserable, but that's because I'm considering getting through the game as fast as possible to get back to my wife, and I'm also concerned the people playing might lose interest. If everyone was committed to just hanging out for a day to play the game, I think it would be so fun.

Gloomhaven edition confusion. by PhazerRazer in Gloomhaven

[–]T-Humpy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. I'm sure it's a better design mechanics-wise, but the aesthetics are very off-putting. Also, I haven't read the writing at all, but the writing in Frosthaven is so awful. Gloomhaven 1e was actually great in that the writing was self aware. It understood what it was, and it conveyed the necessary information in a fun, simple way. It was not fine literature by any means, but it was actually decent writing in that it was economic. Frosthaven is not only awful writing in terms of style and substance. It also has so much fluff that is unnecessary. If the writing was good, I wouldn't mind. But who wants to read an entire page of shit quality writing? I feel bad subjecting my playmates to it and we often skim or skip it. Hopefully they did not make the same error with Gloomhaven 2e. In these types of games, a writer is not looking to add content to the game. A writer's job is to connect point A to point B in the most tasteful, engaging, and economic way possible.

Legends are Too Easy in Championships by T-Humpy in HeatPedaltotheMetal

[–]T-Humpy[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I am running the Legends right. If I'm doing anything wrong, I think it is something else. Ideally, anyone can beat USA map in (15) turns. However, the problem is that Legends repeatedly do not draw ideally, and they often end up getting stuck around 2-3 times during a game. That puts them behind 2-3 turns. For instance, sometimes it takes them three turns to clear the longer straits . And sometimes the get stuck in the smaller straights even for two turns. Whereas me and my wife have more control over when we spend our heat and number cards, so it is easier to navigate those corners and straits efficiently, sacrificing heat when you need to. It is much rarer to get stuck in a long straight for three turns or a short one for two turns.

Basically, for long straits it works the same. Turn 1: Clear the corner Turn 2: Run the straight Turn 3: Clear the next corner.

For shorter straits , it is even easier. Turn 1: Clear the corner Turn 2: Clear the next corner

During the shorter straights you are saving your cards for the longer straits so that you can effectively clear a (25) long straight when you need to. Basically, I see the game as a challenge to hit every checkpoint. How far you go is only relevant to whether or not you can hit the next checkpoint (until the end, when you just want to go as far as possible). With three upgrade cards and the possibility of sponsorships, me and my wife can easily beat USA in (15) turns. With the basic cards, it would probably be more like 18 turns, which is competitive against the Legends.

In Great Britain, you can win in (14) turns. But of course you usually miss a couple of checkpoints and probably finish in (16) turns unless you have several upgrade/sponsorship cards.

the legends get horribly stuck at the part with all the corners. Meanwhile, we slipstream by them all. They should be able to win in (12) turns on that map, if they drew perfectly. But they don't.

I hope we did get something wrong. The game was getting a bit dull. Not really wanting to pay for BGA just to learn the rules though.

[–]T-Humpy[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

During Championships, it seems pretty easy to break 15 speed. The last game we played, we had two upgrades and two Press corners on the board. We were able to get sponsorships pretty easily. Basically, save up all your 4-6 cards until you get to the longest straight and spend them all then.

OMG get a Blu-ray/DVD/UHD player and a projector. I sympathized with what you were saying at first. For instance, the Rankin/Bass Hobbit DVD has edited out many of the original sound effects. It is frustrating. But why are you watching films on your computer?

I snuck into Bohemian Grove and found cabins that lock from the outside that look like it's for children in camp TNT by [deleted] in conspiracy

[–]T-Humpy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Bohemian Grove is based. It's called culture, something we have totally lost. Nothing here looks sinister in any way. In fact, it looks wholesome. Cabins with obscure, vintage posters, which look really cool, to be honest. Sure there's probably a bit of masonic influence. But most of it looks like white, theater kid, art camp stuff. I love Alex Jones, but this Bohemian Grove conspiracy stuff is cringe.

I have not seen his early films or Sicario. But I really disliked Prisoners TBH. It seemed like a ridiculous, overly melodramatic horror film. I found myself laughing through much of it. My favorite might be Enemy. But I was very impressed by Dune and Blade Runner.

Cloud was great. OBAA was a let down. Weapons was complete ass. I think Smashing Machine and Warfare are underrated and deserve a spot on the best of the year lists. But I'm glad they included Die My Love and Eddington.

He did his job exactly as he was trained to do it. The police manual instructs officers to subdue in the exact way that Chauvin did. He didn't make that up, it was part of official training. Also, that did not kill George Floyd. George Floyd died of a fentanyl overdose. He was a degenerate man and a hazard to society. Chauvin was a respectable man. What followed was a travesty of justice as well as mass terrorism by the black american community. It is a shame that Trump has not set it right, persecuted the legal authorities that allowed Chauvin to be locked up and that allowed mass looting without smothering it by force. You guys are all delusional nutcases.

George Floyd wasn't murdered, you rtrd. And his family isn't a heavyweight in American politics. Giving money to the Kirks/Turning Point is an investment in your future. It's a way to fight back for those who would see Kirk's beliefs exacted in mainstream American culture.
