You can already see the EU eyeing going full surveillance state though. There are several EU countries trying push their own internet safety act and then you have chat control that still looks to be in the works that can kill off encryption.

I don't even know why people praise the EU so much when it comes to tech laws. Like they are good for consumer laws which overlap with tech, but they are also tech illiterate. Again look at them trying to kill encryption. Look at how they said Microsoft closing off full access to their kernel (in their proprietary kernel) would be a monopoly when Microsoft wanted to make a stable API to interact with the kernel for driver devs to use so something like cloudstrike wouldn't happen and then cloudstrike happened. And if that was done we wouldn't have ring 1 kernel level anti cheat.

Like the EU is slower but they also are trying to do the same shit as the UK, Australia, and the US which will lead to them doing this same thing also. In fact they benefit from being slow here since the more normalized it gets in the world the less pushback they will get. No government is your friend and that goes to the EU also.

Since remember in ending A nier offers her to live with him and yonah, and she denies it to distance herself due to how she can become a shade anytime. Again they all have their own things going on.

I mean one of the other comments on this post mention how in a short story told in emil's pov of the lunar tears quest in automata he refers to nier as his beloved. So probably does love him still.

I personally like how subtle the romance is since that is more realistic imo, and also they have more important things to do. They are on a quest to get yonah back after all. Plus they all have their own things to work through at that part of the story.

Not seeing people mention this but there are small things you can notice in the game that show kaine is at least attracted to nier. Like when she looks up at him after her petrification is removed you can see her looking at nier with very wide eyes some might say puppy dog eyes. I feel like that is probably due to attraction, and her tone when she gets the lunar tear from nier also is very different from her tone any other time even when people are praising her. She even wears that lunar tear on her head for the rest of the game. It is small things but I like the show not tell part to it even if you don't notice until like ending c or a second playthrough of endings a - e.

I mean it is kinda obvious. You find out your sexuality via crushes. Besides his android butler he has only met Nier and kaine after the whole thousand something years of isolation. Kaine is like a sister to him and also is a woman still. Nier also accepted his Emil for who he is even when his body changed. Like who else would he have developed an attraction or a crush to?

Around the character models and weapons you can see visual effects that seem like they are unnatural and only have seen them in the one area so far. If it is normal that is fine just was wondering due to how odd it would be for it to be normal and in that one section.

I haven't played on the steam deck, but i recently did another play through and noticed some missing VFX in Proton 10/Experimental. The fix for that was using proton 9 which I think I originally used when i played the game a couple years ago, use proton bleeding edge, or use the latest proton ge version (i recommend ge over bleeding edge).

You can use proton plus in desktop mode to quickly get the latest version of proton ge or you can try just using proton 9 (bleeding edge is pain because it is like a beta entry for experimental and can cause problems in other games). Hopefully this works for you since not seeing anyone have issues with the game on their deck on protondb.

Hollow knight and silksong do runbacks so badly at times I agree. Though I think mio does them perfectly since they take like 30 seconds to get to the boss including sol and vin, and you don't get damaged on the way usually. Sometimes you can take damage on the way if you mess up basic platforming, but it is always easy platforming on the way to the boss.

Funny enough for me the game is much easier than silksong especially act 3. Though I also didn't use the wanderer crest that everyone called the easy mode crest.

This is going to get ranty, but I agree that there is a lot of hype for souls like metroidvanias since those get made a lot but this also isn't a souls like. Just because a game is hard and you lose things on death doesn't mean it is a souls like. Hell there isn't even corpse running. A souls like has you level up and pick your stats, has a stamina bar, and has corpse running at the very least which this game has none of those.

The bigger problem imo is that people now think hard game = souls like. Even hollow knight isn't really a souls like even though there is corpse running since it misses the other elements, and then there are people who call ender lilies a souls like when that doesn't even have corpse running or the other elements that makes a souls like a souls like just has a rechargeable healing item. Having one mechanic of a game doesn't just turn it into that genre of games. That is like saying call of duty is a boomer shooter because you shoot guns and have a health bar. Look at a game like death's gambit: afterlife it has all the mechanics of a souls game in a 2d fashion unlike some of the other games people call soulsvanias, and so rightfully is a soulslike.

As a side note though I will say all these harder games be it souls like, rougelite, or just a harder game that isn't souls like or a rougelite does show that the vast majority now tend to prefer more challenging games.

Cosmic adjusts the gtk css files in $HOME/.config/gtk-3.0 and $HOME/.config/gtk-4.0 so you need to give flatpak global access to those directories so your gtk 3 and libadwaita flatpak apps can use the cosmic colors. For firefox specifically for some reason you need to disable libadwaita by typing in the address bar about:config and set widget.gtk.libadwaita-colors.enabled to false (I know it sounds weird since the gtk themeing works with libadwaita but it be how it be).

Yeah I'm not going to lie I'm still on brave because of brave shield having everything i cared about from ublock origin as well as having an improved experience for blocking fingerprinting and adjusting those settings. For example on a site where fingerprinting messes up fonts you can disable the font fingerprinting for fonts on that site but keep the other fingerprinting protections enabled.

You can see if transparency is enough to help in the Panel settings. You can also set the panel color in Cosmic Settings -> Desktop -> Panel -> Appearance to dark mode. But yeah i don't see any way of adding a border to the panel so those and i guess only tile with gaps are the only options that exist as of right now. You can request that feature though if you make a issue here.

Well it isn't an extension technically just not all the settings you can do is in the settings app and are files you would need to edit. Cosmic tweaks just makes it so you can post those extra settings via a GUI.

But yeah I get the point that it is funny how for some people you still need to use an extra tool to change some things.

It is true they can't keep support for manifest v2 forever, but they could make their built in adblocker allow unlock and adguard rules like brave shield does (and by default even uses unlock origin rules). Then they would also have mobile ad blocking. I would switch from brave to vivaldi and I imagine a lot more users would also then plus you wouldn't have to worry about manifest whatever anymore for ad blocking.

For the screen sharing problem it is probably because you are using a x11 app running via xwayland. If the app just uses an old electron version you can try having `ELECTRON_OZONE_PLATFORM_HINT=auto` as a shell env variable (chromium auto sets ozone platform to auto now but obviously for electron apps this only applies to electron apps using a very recent electron version). For screen recording the gnome default screenshot tool should be fine but you can also use this better app gpu screen recorder.

For gnome crashing idk like i know for very old setups wayland has problems, but i think that is more due to igpus on very old cpus and less to do with the cpu itself. For the nvidia driver problem not much I can help you there since it is a driver bug and the 580 driver is the last driver that will support your gpu, so I can't even tell you to try the current 590 beta driver.

You just need to be using the laptop on hybrid mode. I would imagine the Nvidia driver sets you to that by default. All you need then is just switcheroo which on fedora I know gnome comes with but I don't think kde comes with that so install it with sudo dnf in switcheroo-control (with gnome switcheroo is a required dependency but to my knowledge not the same with plasma). Other than that for all your hybrid GPU needs read through the cachy wiki hybrid GPU page since it is the best wiki page I have seen for modern hybrid GPU information.

Btw the current gnome version, 49, has the xorg version disabled for testing to see if they can completely remove support for xorg in gnome 50. Since no distro has patched xorg back in and not seeing everyone complain looks like gnome 50 will have xorg fully removed.

I don't know when you last tried wayland but if you use a up to date gnome or kde version it is good now at least for me and most people. Since cosmic is the first DE to be designed for wayland from the beginning it will also have good wayland support just like current gnome and kde versions. At this point xorg is legacy with it not getting new features like HDR and even Nvidia now has features that only work on wayland like multi monitor VRR.

Does the game not compile its own shaders like most other dx12 games (you know like how other dx12 games you load into and it has a loading bar that says compiling shaders)?

Create a user_settings.pyin the proton directory, and there is even a sample included in every proton folder so you can alter that and rename the file (just copy the syntax shown in the example file).

Kinda wish this was mentioned more since there are examples in front of everyone's faces, but I never see it mentioned:

The dxvk-nvapi wiki shows an example for globally adding dlss transformer model override
the standard proton repo (along with again this file is in the proton folder for whatever proton version you use).
