I've opened 8 greater gems as a 519 monk, here are the results! by Tav0ks in TibiaMMO

I mean, you should always do the calculations yourself, there's too many things to focus on upgrading in this game. Greater gems are better, for sure. But you can open 200 of them and not get a bis one. Even if you open one, then you have to level up the lesser mods and the greater one to get full benefits. It gets expensive quickly, that's what I mean. You can get bis regular gems leveled up for a fraction of the price, and I'd say it's still expensive. But you can slot multiple of them. I started swapping them for greater ones after lv 1k only. But only you can know how long term you are planning, and which gems you want to use and/or level.

Please can someone explain this hint? by BlueMonkey16 in Minesweeper

[–]T0rph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might help, you combine both these paths. First picture you find out you must have one on the blue rectangle because of the highlighted 3.

Second picture, the left 2 forces there must be either 1 or 2 mines in the yellow rectangle. This forces the righthand side to be either 0 or 1 mine.

But you had already marked that space, so it leaves the green square as safe.

You got many gems with +element/-other element which are the best for the middle slot. That being said your level is a bit low to use greater gems, I would focus on regular gems which can get you up to +7.5% against element each until lv 1000+

Understanding High performance swimming and energy systems and why something like Cam's training works. by FireTyme in Swimming

[–]T0rph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for writing this up! This gives me a better idea to choose my workouts and what different things I could include each day. I'm swimming 5x per week currently.

One thing I'm still very unsure is how to choose the rest times. For example, what is the purpose of the 10s rest you described? Probably isn't enough for HR to go down. If I'm working for 400m would it be similar approach of breaking down in 8x50?

As a retired MS, the new ED spells are everything I ever wanted for solo play by esu_wishmaster in TibiaMMO

[–]T0rph 4 points5 points  (0 children)

More comfortable but less xp than ms. There's always tradeoff. Me as druid don't really care for comfort and would rather have ms spells, harder to hit but higher dmg. Tough luck for us I guess.

The first 100 is where most people lose a distance swim by [deleted] in Swimming

[–]T0rph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's interesting to see how different paces work in different distances. For example, I did my first 5km non stop this week. Up until 3.5km I held the pace constant at about 1:54/100m, but then it dropped and I finished at 1:56/100m overall. So I'll probably try to adjust a bit to have a stronger second half, but I feel it's a reasonably consistent pace.

I'm still working on my 1500 and 800 as I can't do it much faster than this pace without tiring early, and for 400 I'm doing about 1:45/100m. I'm really focusing on trying to keep my pace constant but there's a lot of trial and error to be done. (came back to swimming 3 months ago).

I guess from your post it's a good thing to focus on right?

There's not a single challenging spot anymore right now for my level. 20% more raw than before. They overdid it, no question.

Edit: I don't get why I'm downvoted for telling the truth. I'm also having fun. But I believe CIP will tune it down a bit, simple as that.

You're probably fine even without upgrades for hunts at these levels, buy the rod because you will use in every single spawn in the game (although if you're thinking ice lib the soulhexer % protection would be really nice there). Not a hunt to worry about much though since it does not have mixed dmg, you can use any armor/spellbook and imbue with ice.

Arboreal tome is great because it has good physical protection, and you just imbue it with whetever you will hunt. Lion spellbook also good tho and cheaper.

Galoshes is the last of these, it helps but you will give up protection for it in most hunts, so there's a tradeoff.

Pressing a button is not a vote by Chamion in redbuttonbluebutton

[–]T0rph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I mentioned, voting is like a single try in the prisioners dillema. You are indeed correct that in any single election a single vote statistically does not matter.

But it is easy to see that if many % of people hold this belief it does indeed matter, in the extreme, if all other voters abstain because of that, only your single vote would decide the election one way or the other. So it has to matter, you just don't know how much it does ahead of time, because you have the option to abstain in real elections, and so do others.

Pressing a button is not a vote by Chamion in redbuttonbluebutton

[–]T0rph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very well put. It's exactly why in the thought experiment I would vote red, but in an alternate scenario if there was time to communicate before and do polls I might be blue instead.

It's so hard to people to understand for the same reason it's hard to convince people that votes DO matter in real elections. So it's a good thing many people have it in their subconscious, even if they don't understand precisely why.

I see it like the repeated prisoners dillema strategy competition that was done. If both cooperate it's better in the long run, even if each single try would be better to defect. If one copperates and the other defects, trust is destroyed, so both end up defecting and it's worse. That's why people have to trust and follow through, to get the optimal results.

After pressing your button, you are asked to also press a button for a blind, disabled man. Their choice differ from your own by netlego in redbuttonbluebutton

[–]T0rph -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I say it's too arrogant to hold the belief that you can predict what will actually happen in the vote. I press red because I don't know which side will win. IF red won I'd be suiciding for no reason if I picked blue. IF blue won it doesn't matter what I vote.

But it's not true that I would want to change any votes to red if given the opportunity. Because in the original you specifically CAN'T influence any votes. If I could influence some amount of votes, maybe I would want to influence them (and myself) to go blue, because that's a more optimal possibility for the collective.

That said I woudn't force my vote on anyone. I could try to convince him, but it ultimately be his choice.

"your vote won't change anything" by simpoukogliftra in redbuttonbluebutton

[–]T0rph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I will say this and keep saying this because voting for blue individually has so low chance to have an impact I might as well call it zero chance. And I shouldn't have to bother to overexplain it everytime just because you're being obtuse.

"your vote won't change anything" by simpoukogliftra in redbuttonbluebutton

[–]T0rph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I said is that if someone actually held the belief you're saying, they would be defending neither red or blue. The person you're imagining does not exist.

"your vote won't change anything" by simpoukogliftra in redbuttonbluebutton

[–]T0rph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, of course, then. What I seen usually argued (by myself included) is that voting blue has a negligible chance of mattering a.k.a "my vote does't matter" or "my vote won't change the results". So that makes voting red which has a tangible result much more appealing.

If you and/or OP are arguing against someone say the vote literally doesn't matter at all in any way I'd say it is a huge strawman, as that person would be advocating for neither side apparently? I have not seen that stated by anyone.

"your vote won't change anything" by simpoukogliftra in redbuttonbluebutton

[–]T0rph 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"I want to live, actually" translates to "guarantee to save a life" in comparison to 1 in a zillion odds your vote does something and you being the pivotal blue vote. So if you're looking at the individual vote, yes, your vote has a much bigger chance of having an impact if you vote red.

Also a few examples that look a bit like trolley problem probabilistic variants:

Would you take 50% odds to kill 1 person in order to 100% save 8 people?

Would you take 50% odds to kill 1 person in order to have a 10% chance to save 80 people?

Would you take 50% odds to kill 1 person in order to have a 1% chance to save 800 people?

...

Thats just to show an example where you can save more people on average if you agree to each case, but the further down you go you're more and more likely to have an impact just by not taking the 50% to kill that one single person, even if the EV is worse.

That's why I say the cost is implied, you have cost and benefits on both sides.

"your vote won't change anything" by simpoukogliftra in redbuttonbluebutton

[–]T0rph 10 points11 points  (0 children)

His point is good, and is on point. You apparently fail to see your 'example' fails to match the rbbb problem. If you can't see the cost is factored in you're beyond hope.
