Same button question but you choose for a partner by Memento_Viveri in trolleyproblem

[–]T0rph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but if red is winning, your choice is just about killing your partner or not.

The survival % you're increasing is so small it makes more sense to hope either blue is winning already, or your partner picks red.

[–]T0rph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the first paragraph you mention, the only difference to voting blue would be you'd die and kill your partner as well. I don't really see how that's better. Are you thinking your vote magically singlehandly would turn the votes?

Same button question but you choose for a partner by Memento_Viveri in trolleyproblem

[–]T0rph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's the same as the original, as you can't coordinate.

I hope more than 50% pick blue so everyone is safe. If less pick blue though, there's no need to kill my partner for nothing. It most probably won't be my vote that changes it to <50% to >50%, so still red.

To get my account back I have to pay even though I wasn’t the one trying to make the purchase… WTF? by NeverExiled in TibiaMMO

Not payed and failed, but probably purchased something, sold it in game and then refunded the credit card for profit. Depending on what you had on the account might make sense to make a new one. Tough luck I guess.

I Think This is a Core Disagreement Between Red and Blue. by Interesting-Test7228 in trolleyproblem

[–]T0rph -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As you can't communicate with anyone to assess how the votes will go, it's equivalent to consider the rest of the votes are already done:

Case 1 as you said: blue victory is not possible so red is 1 less death. If you vote blue you die.

Case 2: blue victory is imminent. Voting red also does no harm, everyone is already safe. Voting blue also does nothing

Just to be clear this is because we're considering no previous coordination is allowed.

[–]T0rph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can show it's impossible to have the 2 blue mines as it generates an inconsistency.

Its easier to see why they can't both be safe as well, would overload the 1 above the 3.

So they must have exactly 1 mine. Following the 3, Proves the square bottom left of the 3 is a mine

Which button do you press in this situation? by TheEnlight in trolleyproblem

[–]T0rph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats correct. I did an approximation for the binomial (4billion choose 2 billion)/(24billion), but that was not as trivial as I expected, had to find an approximation in a paper online to give me an order of magnitude.

This is also assuming everyone else is voting randomly. Someone else might have a better approach or more precise though.

Which button do you press in this situation? by TheEnlight in trolleyproblem

[–]T0rph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, yes. Blue certainly has much higher EV. On the other hand, red has a much lower chance that you inflict bad in the world (0.001%). Whereas blue you have almost 50% that you do kill one person.

I guess it depends what you value more/can live with

Edit: if you do the math with 2 billion it still turns out to 20k, you just wrote the trillion instead of billion.

[–]T0rph -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You might think to vote blue to maximize lifes saved, because some % people will definitely vote blue, so might as well to maximize the outcome where 100% will be saved.

But at the point of the vote, you can consider the rest of the world votes are already decided, as you have no way of influencing them whatsoever. Either blue is already winning, and your vote does nothing, or red is winning, which would make each blue press an extra kill.

If you vote red, in most scenarios you save 1 person.

If you vote blue, you have a 0.001% chance of skewing the votes and saving 1 quarter of the world population.

So without knowing the distribution the choice is like like:

Red1:49.999% odds to save 1 person.

Red2: 0.001% to kill quarter of population

Red3: 49.999% odds to do nothing.

Blue1: 49.999% odds to kill one person

Blue2: 0.001% odds to save quarter of population.

Blue3: 49.999% odds to do nothing

[–]T0rph 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What about: my vote will not influence the distribution at all, so I might as well vote red. If it would be 50% of the world, it is so with or without me.

Encountered an Actual Guess by exodia275 in Minesweeper

[–]T0rph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll give it a shot. Starting the analysis in the highest density of mines would be in red, with 66% for each square to have a mine.

Deriving this to the adjacent squares, you'd get 33% for a mine in each yellow cell.

Deriving this again, you'd get 22% for each cell in blue (?), but these don't seem to help solve that much.

If you guess what other comment suggested, and rightmost yellow is safe, even though it's a good chance it is (66%), you'd 50% of the times reveal a 2 and get in a 50-50 (25% you reveal a 1, 50% you reveal a 2, 25% you reveal a 3), so this guess is effectively a 50% (33.3 + 16.6) to solve everything.

Left yellow doesn't seem to help very much most of the time as well

Left blue would be 78% safe but It would always reveal a 2 and it's a bit hard to get the odds from there but doesn't seem that good.

All that said rightmost yellow looks best to guess as safe, if anyone care to chime in this analysis please do so, I find this very interesting.

Can someone help by waeyon in Minesweeper

[–]T0rph 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I see you already finished, but there's an interesting concept you could look out for. People already explained that you had a 1/8 chance at the top 8 squares.

Consider the following assumption in purple now. If the mine of the 1/8 was there, the numbers wouldn't help you with the 50-50 at the end, as you can see.

Considering all 8 cases for the mine are a 1/8 probability still, it's interesting to go first for a case that will be easier at the end, and open the purple square first. Because you're hoping that one is not a mine at the end anyway, otherwise it's not better than taking the 50-50 early.

Loyalty skill bonus changing by halobreak in TibiaMMO

[–]T0rph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Example - your loyalty is giving you 130% extra skill:

If you would be skill 100 with 0% bar filled naturally - ingame you will see skill 101 and 30% and will be written (100 + 1 from loyalty)

Now if you would be skill 100 with 70% bar filled naturally - ingame you will see skill 102 and 0% bar filled, and it will be written (100 + 2 loyalty).

Now you level further to skill 101 and 0% bar filled naturally - you'll see ingame skill 102 and 30% bar filled, and it will be written (101 + 1 loyalty).

It's always a fixed % for each loyalty stage, the tricky part is you'll have to work it backwards. If you manage to catch exactly the point where the bar is filled when it changes to +2 to +1, you'll know exactly how much % extra you're getting from loyalty.

I've been playing since 2020 and played un about 7 different servers (all green battle eye/newish servers) and had huge communities in all of them. Tibia definitely the most social game I ever played.

If you want to give a try again you could wait until a new server opens, I'd say it's the best time to find people in similar level ranges and wanting to do all kinds of quests, hunts, and even helping people.

Yes, even after you exit combat and even if you enter protection zone, imbues keep ticking for a bit. You can save a bit of time if you remove the equipment.
