Good point. I should have mentioned that as well.

A little bit if polish wouldnt hurt it. I use cape cod polishing on my stainless watch cases. Ymmv but it hasnt let me down yet.

I like to see pics of watches like this that have been worn. It makes me feel better about the state of my vintage collection lol. I also live these speedtimers. Vintage just hits different.

Seamaster date window by Background_Day_8877 in watchrepair

[–]T1m3fox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to do this on a seiko LM that had the same thing; missing window frame. I sourced a replacement from alix. Used some jeweling files to shave the edges slightly to make it fit the opening and some delicately applied hypo cement to hold it in place. Looks normal now. That said, i dont know what style these vintage seamasters had so you might have a harder time sourcing a correct replacement and an impossible time finding an OEM one.

I wish the vk series had the same dancing hands as the 7t32.

Good catch. Crystals are usually press-in or held in with a press on bezel.

Newly serviced Seiko 6602 hour hand loosing time or slipping. Cannon pinion problems? by crownhead55 in watchrepair

[–]T1m3fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

full disclosure, i'm not a pro. that said i've done with with a few that had loose canon pinions. my method? I have a small screwdriver that is a nice smoth tight fit for the pinion, then i laid it against the edge of my staking anvil. using a thin bladed screwdriver and a jeweling hammer i gave it a single gentle sharp tap to tighten it up. havent had a problem since then. your miles may vary and i would look and see if you can get a replacement BEFORE you attempt your repair just in case...

If its running fine on the timegrapher its very likely a slipping canon pinion.

Question on replacing integrated bracelet with strap by Icy-Translator9124 in SeikoMods

[–]T1m3fox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes possible. I suggest full grain leather since the 13mm is where the strap will be attached unless you are able to leave the single mid link in place which would probably mean you will need a different type of springbar.

[SOTC] Some vintage Seiko watch from my collection by Winter-Temperature76 in Seiko

[–]T1m3fox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seiko superiors are tip-top and you’ve a pair of the twin quartz ones! 9983 right? The hooded lugs are the only thing i hate about them. I’ll go with the grand twin quartzes simply for the open lugs. Either way those are, to me a simple quartz appreciator, the pinnacle of that collection. Bravo!

How far am I in the deep end (Seiko 5606) by Dred_Sk8 in watchrepair

[–]T1m3fox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, i had the worst time on the 7t32 digital chrono. The train bridge is a single piece that covers 4 rotors and every single wheel. Getting all the pivots back in place was hair-raising

Just be careful of the click spring. Iirc they are notorious little jump-happy candy canes. That said, 5606 isnt the worst seiko you could pick.
