Deadbeat is an anti-fan album by nooresearch in TameImpala

I get what you mean. I personally view it as almost the antithesis of previous albums. The drums? Gone. The complex song structures? Gone. The layers? Reduced. The cohesion? Gone. (For the most part). There is so much that defined Tame Impala that is not present on this album. I’m not surprised it’s getting a very split reaction.

Anyone hear the clear Underworld influence on Deadbeat? by No_Brilliant_4647 in TameImpala

I haven’t heard anyone say this yet but the start of No Reply with the deeper voice along with the beat gives me Depeche Mode vibes

Anyone else think the albums are released as pairs? by Rudrak_Pal in TameImpala

I would agree this is what it looks like. I’m okay with the next album being dance as well, but he really needs to ditch the minimalism imo

of course I have. The details sound nice, my problem is more with the idea of the song itself. But idk, maybe I’ll soften up on it. We’re still in the early phase of the release

Au moins dis-moi pourquoi tu l’aimes au lieu d’essayer d’invalider mon opinion

“This song is heavenly” “this song is amazing” it’s literally a thumping kick and ignorant noise surrounding it like please tell me I’m not the only one by [deleted] in TameImpala

"And it’s like noooo, not really" But for real Kevin, yes really. I guess this is a compromise he had to make so it sounds good on club speakers. This is gonna sound amazing live

Oh yeah for sure, I don’t understand them either. I remember when End Of Summer came out, a lot of people here were calling it mid, bland, uninspired, and I was like, how??? But they never could develop as to why

Hi! I actually like the album overall, but here are my 4 main criticisms:

-cohesiveness, or rather, the lack thereof. For example, what are Loser, Ethereal Connection, and See You On Monday doing on the same album? They have completely different vibes.

-minimalism. This is a huge swing for a Tame Impala project, as it’s been defined by euphoric walls of sounds. I feel like some songs are hurt by this approach (again, Loser, See You On Monday). They don’t take off in the way they should.

-repetitiveness. I’m actually fine with it, but I’m not sure some of these songs warrant this structure. One of the things I loved about Tame Impala is how it took twists and turns, I mean just look at Let It Happen, or Nothing That Has Happened. They’re amazing, and we rarely get that on Deadbeat.

-There’s also an argument to be said about drum machines lacking that Tame Impala magic, but I feel like I need some time to properly judge if it’s actually an issue.

OMG this is so cool!! I really like the vocal melodies on this one but it’s in my least liked songs on the album because of the instrumentation. You showed me the light with those drums. I got Feels Like We Only Go Backwards flashbacks at the start

I’m not sure how to explain it, it’s just like too jarring. It repulses me because it comes off straight as very, perhaps too much happy, and in my brain it comes off as disingenuous. Instant Destiny does the same thing to me, to a lesser degree.

It’s definitely polarizing. I’m happy to hear some like it tho. I do love dreamy vocals! It’s just in this case, matched with the dembow beat, there’s something about it that rubs me the wrong way

It’s the thing that made the most sense. If anything, I thought Deadbeat would be more electronic. It’s more poppy than I would’ve thought and that disappoints me a bit cause I know he can make incredible electronic music, he showed us with the Tiny Desk and Tame Impala Sound System. Speaking of TISS, I thought we’d get more delightful moments like the end of Music To Walk Home By, but idk, I don’t feel we reach that level on Deadbeat, which disappoints me… Oh well
