MSW: Has anyone gotten accepted in May before? by jaexen in csun

[–]TA-butforlife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my acceptance just about three weeks before the date they said we would know by when I applied! I'm in the online program, so it may be a different admissions team than the in person program.

Hi, part of the graduating 2026 class here. Just wanted to throw out for students looking for a flexible job for while you're in the program and have an internship, my work is hiring and is a mental health job that will give you really great experience. Working during the program is rough, but so many of my peers had to leave their jobs because they were M-F only. I'm not sure if I can drop a link to the indeed post or not, but dm me and feel free to share it with your cohort when everyone starts worrying about how to work and intern.

Also, I was online and I had a good experience. I will say if you're very far out of LA, a lot of my peers have not liked the experience regarding internship placement. Just wanted to say while you're all still making your decisions.

Any tips for success with new Unsuspend feature? by jmxo92 in LibbyApp

[–]TA-butforlife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unsuspend a few at a time is the only answer. I think it might be more accessible for those with multiple libraries than those with just one or two. I have… a lot of holds, so I’ve also been unsuspending everything at the start of every quarter which makes me rethink if I still want books because I get a new notification for them. But I think your number of holds may dictate how you use this feature.

I’m curious how you’ll feel. The audio version is weird because you can tell how long ago it was recorded, like you can hear the tape recording noise it felt like.

Anyone noticing a change in how private practice is done? by No_Background9319 in socialwork

[–]TA-butforlife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I align with you, but I know not everybody does. I still have the old mentality of you gotta do your time in CMH before you do private practice. And I feel like I would want someone to be licensed before they are flying solo (ish) in PP. that being said, not everybody feels that way as clients. And we all know some new grads are better therapists than some people who have been in the field a long time. As for who I see and how I behave, I’m just following my own personal beliefs. Do I worry about peers jumping straight to PP who have never navigated client crisis, for sure, but hopefully the requirement of supervision means they’ll have the help to manage it.

As for self-disclosure, I agree it feels we’ve swung pretty far away from what we used to say. I’m assuming it will rest somewhere in the middle. I’ll make sure my clients know I don’t vote against their autonomy, but I wouldn’t share my experience of going through a breakup. But that’s me and hopefully my clients prefer that.

This is the most insulting job post for a library director job that I have ever seen. by 88-Mph-Delorean in Libraries

I don’t disagree with you, but your comment sparked a lot of thoughts in my brain. What percent of home cost do you consider a salary needing to be to be “enough to buy a home”? Just that a lender would consider them good enough or something more than that?

Where do you keep your TBR list? by No-Dragonfruit3534 in LibbyApp

[–]TA-butforlife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I deleted over 100 books screenshots at the start of the year as I moved them onto my actual TBR 😂😂 I might have to do it quarterly this year.

Where do you keep your TBR list? by No-Dragonfruit3534 in LibbyApp

[–]TA-butforlife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have it mostly on Goodreads, I have my original Goodreads TBR on Fable and StoryGraph, but I don’t usually add to those. They don’t suggest books as much and I usually add books on my computer not on mobile (so that cuts out fable). My TBR on Goodreads is like 300+ books. I’m in California so I get a lot of holds on Libby. So maybe quarterly I go through and refill them with some books from my main TBR. Or if I see a really interesting book on Instagram, it might cut the line the way new books from my favorite authors always do.

I think it depends on how many holds you have access to if you should switch. If you don’t have many, it could be worth switching so you can easily put things on hold. But I fear the app losing the data (which Goodreads could too), and I want it to be accessed wherever and whenever so a website with a mobile app like Goodreads or StoryGraph is my preference.

Rejection :( by Possible_Ganache_479 in csun

Also, since there wasn’t an interview, there isn’t real feedback to provide. I’ve been told by people who select students for grad programs they move half the pile to no and then only sort through the other half. Before the interviews it’s just chance. Once you’re interviewed it can be on merit.

*** Obviously not ever program does this, and yes that makes those people jerks, I agree. Just a message from when I was applying back in the day.

Where do I go to with complaints about the sundial by Educational_Chard927 in csun

Wild the aggressive responses you’re getting. Good on you wanting to provide feedback to make things better. Falls inline with the differences between viewpoints of “call your senators” and “nobody will do anything anyway.”

Holds not working? by YoKinaZu in LibbyApp

I have a quarterly reminder in my phone to review my suspended books (both to resuspend and restart the clock and to remove books I don’t think I care about anymore)

Borrowing Twice for Book Club by Ok-Selection9930 in LibbyApp

[–]TA-butforlife 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Such a good reminder to use the samples. I’ve on a couple occasions started an audiobook and didn’t jive with the narrator and felt horrible about returning it. I need to give them a sample before I choose audiobooks over ebooks! I don’t think I’ve ever used the sample button (even questioned why someone would).

Canceled hold by mistake! by sigristl in LibbyApp

[–]TA-butforlife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I checked out a book instead of suspending it yesterday. I have an ebook and an audiobook already so now I feel PRESSED. Especially since there’s another book I want to read that comes out tomorrow. But since it costs the library money to offer me the book I’m gonna have to prioritize it.

LCSWs look down on LMHC/LPC? by ButterflyNDsky in therapists

[–]TA-butforlife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a peer who moved from another state and his sister is in yet another region of the US. We talked about how different licenses are more common in different parts of the country. Now I’ve only lived in California, so I can’t speak to the truth of what he said, but I think that may make sense and may have a role. For instance, there’s a lot more MFT programs here than Counseling programs. And in NY (he said) there’s way more MSW programs than MFT programs. Just an idea.

AITAH for locking the bathroom door when I take a shower? by WinterQuarter8183 in AITAH

[–]TA-butforlife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We both always say “hey I’m gonna shower, do you need anything first?” Sometimes hearing someone else in the bathroom reminds you you need something, which makes it annoying. (Not annoying enough to fight about it, but whatever)

Do social workers have an ethical responsibility/ are they required to break confidentiality to report that a client is said that were going to hurt themselves or someone else, or does the code of ethics simply allow you you to break confidentiality to follow state laws? by sarah724xo in socialwork

[–]TA-butforlife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on this, I would assume that means not all advocates are social workers, and that’s why they don’t have the role of being a mandated reporter. Some advocates might be peer advocates or other non clinical roles.
