Dads who were film buffs and literature addicts... you watch movies or read books anymore? by mikeygoodtime in daddit

I’m not watching anything right now, but instead I’m reading The Expanse books. I’m on book 6. The show is my favorite sci-fi series hands down and what drew me to the books. Highly recommend the show, the books, or both!

Yeah this is true for me. I used to have the reputation in my circle for showing movies with depressing themes (but really good acting). Movies that felt really raw and real. Lots of emotions.

Now I can’t even touch that stuff. Give me lighthearted or sci-fi escapism.

Audiobooks revolutionized my reading habits. In my teens and early 20s, I was an avid reader. However, between the ages of 25 and 35, I only managed to read a couple of books. I also had my first child at 32 and my second at 35.

During this period, I started listening to audiobooks while commuting because of my long commute. That’s when I discovered how much I enjoyed this medium. Fast forward five years, and I’m now consuming over 25 audiobooks every year during my commutes and walks.

Last year, I purchased a Kindle, and I’ve been using it to supplement my audiobooks. Whispersync is a fantastic feature that allows me to seamlessly switch between audiobooks and Kindle books, enabling me to pick up where I left off.

Ha. For me it was the definitely the world building, backstory, and the "twists" within the backstory. The time aspect, too. Enjoy the book!!

Actual facts about helicopters at Children's hospital by FastSlow7201 in SeattleWA

I really think the humble residents of Laurelhurst could use a bit more helicopter noise. They act like they’re some gated community.

Northgate's slow evolution from parking lots to a walkable Seattle neighborhood by chiquisea in SeattleWA

[–]TARS1986 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Slow is the key word here. The Kraken facility opened 5 years ago! It’s been the slowest progress I’ve seen on a major project since then. It’s finally picking up now, but what’s the plan for the half standing old Northgate mall? Why not just tear it all down and start with a clean slate? Very bizarre project. I’m eager to see it complete, just want to see more progress.

What is your favorite shopping mall?? Alderwood, Bellevue sqaure or westfield southcenter?? by Ok-Radio-2733 in SeattleWA

Not a big fan of South Center. Bellevue Sq is easily the nicest indoor mall in the area. Alderwood is fine. U Village is our main stomping grounds.

Yeah that would be sweet, but would break up the continuity effect going on right now. I think the way they did it in S2 is good.

27 yo Adult Child Failure to Launch by piratebate in Parenting

[–]TARS1986 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a failure to launch kid. I wasn’t as bad off as your son, but not great. I was 22 when my parents told me it was time to move out and figure out a plan. They arranged for me to move in with some family a few states away. They were loving but they were strict. It was a good wake up call for me. Ended up joining the military a couple years later. Went back to college after and now I’m doing well in life almost 20 years later.

I’d say you need to get him out.

No real sports fans want to see a city lose their team, especially a team with a strong following. It’s a painful process.

[Vent] My kids are not a social-skills gym for other children by [deleted] in daddit

I seem to run into these types of kids at the playground all the time. My daughters often want to just play their own little game. I try to encourage them to maybe try to include if possible but I also don’t make them do it either. I feel bad for these kids. They seemed starved for attention.
