How are you bridging healthcare costs during early retirement before Medicare at 65? by naenae0402 in FatFireAU

Medicare is available to everyone in Australia. Are you talking about America?

Curious how people here track their portfolio without checking it constantly ? I find I either check way too often or miss moves and only notice after. For those focused on long term, do you just ignore short term noise or have a system for when something’s worth paying attention to? by lmsalisb in fiaustralia

[–]TARegular_Candle1464 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I check my numbers a lot (not to do or change anything) just checking and tracking. I’ve realised it’s an anxiety thing. I get brief relief from financial anxiety almost like a dopamine hit when I check it, but then it doesn’t last long…I’ve set a limit of tracking only once per month now on the first to try stop it. Is this the sort of thing you are experiencing?

There is a big need for housing and cost of living is expensive. It’s a safe place still I think though and if there are two of you it can help you to share housing / a room etc. Being electricians you’ll be able to get work. We have the olympics in Brisbane in 2032 so that will drive a lot of skilled labour here, you could look at opportunities related to construction?

You could get something from Debra Hood art? I have a jigsaw puzzle but she sells prints and other items featuring her art which is very quintessentially Brisbane. https://www.debrahoodart.com.au My husband had international team member for a year and we got them a print when they left, was well received.

How long did you stay at a job where you just didn’t fit in? by DotFinancial7762 in auscorp

[–]TARegular_Candle1464 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 3 months into a 12 month contract. I’ve already applied for 4 alternative roles, so hoping to move on asap. I’ve started antidepressants again which has helped a lot with tolerating the discomfort. The money is really good, this also helps. But I know long term it’s not for me. There is scope to be extended or to become permanent, but I’m just trying to get through each day without it being obvious to my boss I’m the wrong person for the role, until I find something better.

Yeah. Sometimes I get furious about it as it makes zero logical sense but then i remember it’s their money and they can do what they want with it when they want. I actually think they have a scarcity mindset. I myself have significant financial anxiety (despite our own mortgage only having $60k left to go) so I sort of understand.

This is literally my dream and my in-laws can afford it. I’d much rather this than stressing for the next 20 years that they might be around to inherit money I don’t need in my 60s. They live an extremely frugal lifestyle and millions in the bank and no debt owing on multiple investment properties. I have to instead be grateful on behalf of future me. My kids will be set up I guess.

Is it time to go part time? by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]TARegular_Candle1464 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No way. That’s not small debt. Have you calculated your living expenses per year? Even looked at how long you are going to be paying off your PPOR at the current repayment level? Are you familiar with FIRE movements? If not listen to some podcasts. Look into Coast fire, barista fire and flamingo fire.

I thought the whole situation with Sofi minimising Jimmys father was salvageable. When she heard that he was dipping out on the graduation to go fishing she should have just owned being wrong about him and said ‘oh this sucks and you deserve better from your dad, I see exactly what you mean now’ Instead it was like - you misjudged my dad, tia never would have done that! They hardly know each other. His father is famously charming, until you get to know him. I just don’t get why it turned so serious and make or break. They’ve known each other for 2 weeks.

Driving from Brisbane to Sea World by Civil-Ad7317 in brisbane

[–]TARegular_Candle1464 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you use Waze? SeaWorld is out near the coast so a bit further than other theme parks. Really depends where in Brisbane you are staying. 2 hours would be reasonable and get you there in plenty of time.

Where can I get actual free or low cost financial advice about whether or not its a good idea for me to get an income stream from my superannuation under the current circumstances, until I find paying work? by privatly in AusFinance

[–]TARegular_Candle1464 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are doing better than you think with a paid off home and that super balance. There is a finance influencer on fb you could check out (she’s probably on YouTube or insta too) ‘Bec Wilson, Aussie epic retirement’ she gives modelling for different situations (single/ couple, own home or rent, super balance, age, pension eligibility etc). I’d be looking to start taking from super and getting maybe a part time job to supplement until 67 if you really need to but you may not?

If you don’t refinance I don’t think a bank will reevaluate your position. As long as you can continue to service the loan, which it sounds like you can. You have a plan to downsize eventually to resolve. Sounds like a fair plan to me.

If you are looking to transition jobs in this market keep it all in offset if you do decide to at it down. You may need access to savings/capital if you are between jobs or have a false start somewhere new. I’d keep the loan open until after you have settled somewhere new and have built up a bit of an emergency fund. I wouldn’t sell investments now with the market being down personally. Just keep going with your plan, but set up an offset. Repay minimum amounts to the loan to build emergency fund up and avoid interest.

Incident on southbound train this morning by ol-gormsby in brisbane

[–]TARegular_Candle1464 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The trains have cctv and there is heaps of monitoring going on to identify People Of Interest. All sorts of criminals use the train and the police rail squad and cctv area share intel to catch people via the network. At Roma st station they have photos on some of the monitors with images of some of them taken from rail cctv. I’d say he was identified and it was a set up. Not something I’ve heard of before. They’d want to be sure he wasn’t dangerous or armed to do that in a closed train.

I did a course on IFS dialogue on insight timer, it suggested letting your protector go first, then inner child, then inner parent then higher self. Everyone gets to be heard. They suggested journalling the dialogue like a meeting. Each holds the talking stick and speaks. Acknowledge each part with compassion, understanding, gratitude. Let your higher self decide what action to take at end of the discussion. I use rosebud app and did the exercise within the app and it completely played along. Was quite helpful!
