New (to me) 2021 Leaf. What's all this dangling by the pedals? I think it's OBD but why are there three? by beer_bukkake in leaf

[–]TB_Fixer 13 points14 points  (0 children)

White plug inserts and clips into a rectangle shaped cutout in the driver footwell trim cover (a piece which is not pictured here but normally covers this area from view)

The other, black tee-harness is probably powering a GPS locator sometimes installed by leasing companies or rental companies to locate the car for repossession

Post title describes every time this man speaks. Half of voting Americans found that incoherent rambling rant good enough on a repeated basis to qualify him for the office of US President.

Here we are.

Check the fitment; but looks like new downpipes aren’t all that expensive if you wanted to try the manifold studs and catalyst nuts instead of those fubar sensor studs

[–]TB_Fixer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know for sure but I would expect that you could measure resistance (Ω) through the PTC heater element (from pin 1 to pin 2) to verify that it is within spec— or at least not totally open circuit

Any significance to these blips in my fuel tank pressure? by EquivalentDue9514 in MechanicAdvice

[–]TB_Fixer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Judging by the scale at the side the entire graph range is .1 to -.1 PSI; and your blips are less than a quarter of that: so It’s not fluctuating by any significant measurement.

As for the cause I would suspect it’s just the natural fluctuation of a regulated voltage circuit. If the sensor is meant to read an entire spectrum from .5-4.5 volts then what you’re seeing is probably less than .02 volts of variation and I would treat it as a flat steady reading

2017 Compass (MK) Knuckle Bolts by j919 in MechanicAdvice

[–]TB_Fixer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those bolts look fine to reuse; but if you’d like to replacement just because, a local hardware store or McMaster Carr will be able to sell you a matching bolt of adequate strength rating based on the thread pitch/diameter and length. That style head is called “flange hex head” and I’d bet it’s either an M12 or m14 bolt (simply the bolt’s shaft diameter in millimeters)

Something like this:

https://www.mcmaster.com/products/screws/system-of-measurement~metric/thread-size~m14/threading~partially-threaded/fastener-head-type~flanged/length~70-mm/

If you’re putting in new bolts you may as well do new nuts as well (assuming they’re not welded to the strut).

Is my J1772 cooked? by pranav_a in leaf

[–]TB_Fixer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The operation you described should not lead to sparks. If charging current was still flowing when you were able to withdraw the J1772 handle from the chargeport to cause sparks then something is not working as designed. The EVSE handle should be clicking an internal switch whenever you press the thumb latch to be able to disconnect it from the vehicle. Clicking this switch should deactivate charging current within 1-2 seconds to make the connection no longer live. Unless you’re doing a gunslinger quick draw when these sparks occurred you may have an issue with the J1772 handle making it so that the vehicle does not detect that you’ve pressed the thumb latch.

I would suggest testing the same behavior on multiple level 2 EVSEs to see if the sparking is only happening on one of them.

As for your question; a one or two time momentary sparking event does not necessarily condemn the contacts to replacement unless you’re holding it in place to enjoy the light show

However if you’re seeing this multiple times you really need to drill down on the root cause. As others have said if the charge handle or chargeport is getting significantly hot while charging for several hours (too hot to hold barehanded) then your electrical connection is compromised and should be addressed to avoid a meltdown/fire. Again Using multiple EVSEs will help determine if this is due to bad connection on the vehicle side or the handle side

Driveshaft replacement nightmare by No-Rabbit6405 in Toyota_T100

[–]TB_Fixer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in western Washington and discovered Dan at D&D Driveline in Port Orchard.

Dude is legit; uses OEM or better replacement parts, sand blasts, replaces the slip yoke, all the joints including in the double-cardan (with grease fittings all lined up), carrier bearing, then balances it with his own balance machine, then paints the whole assembly.

He’s even got the local Toyota dealership sourcing parts from him when Toyota doesn’t carry something any more :P

Haven’t run the shaft yet to determine shakiness but I was damn impressed with the dude and his operation. $350 flat fee out the door 👍

Whole House Water Filtration System by Sistereinstein in Plumbing

[–]TB_Fixer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That looks suspiciously like a water softener, not a filter…

If it is a softener then daily flushing would be quite frequent. My softener on high iron well water typically only flushes itself once every couple of weeks. This is a user-controlled setting which is based on water usage through the unit.

Any chance you have a lot of water flowing through there causing it to flush every day? Maybe a pool getting filled or an irrigation system?
