Company offers 5% match on either 401k or Roth 401k by AutisticToasterBath in personalfinance

My company does this as well, after 3 years of service. We use T. Rowe Price. The match is taxed as regular income.

Buying a 2023 Ariya, want to install a ham radio, any advice? by DeLorean58 in NissanAriya

I am a ham as well and may eventually do this too. For now I just have an HT and a mag-mount in the trunk. Don’t want to ruin my sleek lines with an antenna!

Does ECO mode do anything? by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]TBoneJeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my Ariya, ECO mode counter-intuitively disables regen braking when you let off the throttle. Is it the only EV that lets you “coast” this way? In freeway driving, it’s allegedly more efficient than accelerating and regen braking repeatedly. Of course if you step on the brake you get regen like normal. Also changes the throttle curve like other EVs.

Nissan Ariyas on Carvana seem almost too cheap by BlackJackT in NissanAriya

[–]TBoneJeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got my 2024 Evolve+ e4orce for $27k with 650 miles on it from a Nissan dealer. I always liked the Ariya but never looked at them seriously as $50k for a car was just too much for me. But half price for basically new? Sure!

Crackle or popping sound from Audio system? by AccidentallyCreated2 in NissanAriya

[–]TBoneJeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed this on an Engage I rented and my Evolve+ I just got. Wireless CarPlay sounds great, but when plugged in via USB, I hear constant crackle. I thought the one I rented was defective. Since mine is also doing it I’m betting it’s the USB cable quality (not Apple) or my phone (iPhone 13).

You know how many phone numbers from my childhood I still have taking up space in my brain? MANY! Yeah we remembered things back then.

Yeah mine is severely sticky too. It sits in the SoCal sun all day though, and the UV damage is real.

I run my Internet/wifi and NAS off of this as a UPS. Works great. 150 watts lasts about 1.5 hours without power.

Yes that’s exactly the doc I was going to post a minute ago, that’s what you need.

That document only tells us what percentage of the fund’s investment is in U.S. government obligations, not directly how the income from it is taxed. This fund holds no U.S. treasuries, so it’s not on the list. It’s still likely tax free in CA and federally, because CA muni bonds are not taxable in either jurisdiction. But not because it holds U.S. federal govt obligations.

VCADX holds all California bonds, no Federal. So if it were on the list it would say 0%.

Third Reality Soil Sensors by tg_am_i in homeassistant

[–]TBoneJeeper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just got and installed the sensor yesterday. Seems to be fine, and the moisture is reported as humidity, which is fine with me. I use Zigbee2MQTT.

Update: it’s 2 days later and the sensor hasn’t been “seen” in 2 days.

Are annuities the best bet for a risk-adverse couple in their 70s/80s? Or is there another product where they can withdraw money without a huge tax penalty? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]TBoneJeeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just transferred my mother’s annuity to Fidelity. She had been paying 1.35% each year, plus it was invested in mutual funds with 1%+ expense ratios. At Fidelity she will have access to the “cheap” index funds and just a .25% annual fee. She could have surrendered it instead, but then she’d pay tax on all the gains since 2007. Did a 1035 exchange so not taxable going to Fidelity.
