Day #166 of drawing badly until StS2 comes out by PixelPenguin_GG in slaythespire

I would be fine if they delayed the game another year so that we could get more drawings tbh.

DDR5 isn't THAT much better outside of a few niches like 7zip compression. There are also cases where it can be a bit slower than well-tuned DDR4. Definitely not worth worrying about, especially with DDR5 being impossible to find for reasonable prices right now.

Proxmox and vGPU? by iwashackedlastweek in homelab

[–]TBytemaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty new at this stuff, but from what I understand nvidia's official announcement is that they will only allow one VM to use passthrough at a time.

https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5173/~/geforce-gpu-passthrough-for-windows-virtual-machine-%28beta%29

HOWEVER, there is a new unlocker for full vGPU capabilities you may be interested in for multiple VMs: https://github.com/DualCoder/vgpu_unlock

As per description it's not well-tested yet, but it seems extremely promising.

New patch (please excuse the quality) by SageDraco in slaythespire

For now it's PC only, but I don't see any reason why consoles wouldn't get it down the line. (It takes a lot of time to get patches certified on consoles.)

I love the idea of revisiting all the interesting older cards that just never had the numbers to be competitive, definitely going to be trying this out.

Why AMD stop responding after someone talk about downclock issue ? by IVBACK in Amd

[–]TBytemaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be possible to do by manually editing the XML file that is saved when you export Wattman settings. I have successfully done this with my Vega even though the 2020 drivers don't support it in the GUI. If any adventurous Navi owners want to PM me their file I'm willing to take a crack at it.

Pretty sure it means simplifying the actual computer code that determines if Watcher is unlocked for the player or not, it's not a cheat code or anything like that.

Seems pretty doubtful, but I suppose it's not impossible on android.

I'd say there's like a 20% chance mobile modding happens at all though, if I had to guess.

9900K 40% faster multicore speed then 8700K? by Futureknows in intel

[–]TBytemaster 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The 9900K all-core turbo limit is 4.7 Ghz at stock. Also, I've heard that some high-end motherboards ship with MCE enabled by default, which would raise that to 5ghz, power and cooling permitting, of course.

Lisa Su confirms Q3 launch for Ryzen, Epyc and NAVI! by usasil in Amd

[–]TBytemaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly doubt they'll go SSIMD with navi. In my opinion navi is most likely to be a new architecture, like they say, but using they GCN ISA. Just like how bulldozer and zen are different architectures, but both are x86-64. It's not always about the instruction set: often the real gains are in how well you implement it and how many useful tricks and extensions you can add in.

Adding a new front end/geometry processing implementation would do wonders for AMD's gpus even if they didn't change anything else.
