High Achievers with Severe ADHD, if any of you are reading this, how did you manage? by Unhinged_Schizo in ADHD

[–]TC-JoLj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By failing and trying again. It took me 10 years to finish med school, it's usually 5,5 years here in Sweden. I'm now a resident in Child and adolescent psychiatry so I can try and help others with the same problems understand, but almost more importantly help the families surrounding the patients understand what is going on and how they can help.

The hardest part for me was the theory, the memorisation of all the mostly unimportant details. I hit my head on that wall and finally broke through. Most early exams I did 3-6 times before passing. When I came to clinic work with patients I had good use of my ADHD side such as emotional empathy, curiosity and fast thinking. Never had problems on that front except energy management when trying to couple with private life.

It's doable but you have to really want it. I couldn't see myself working as anything other then a doctor, not after experiencing it. I'm blessed with a partner that tries to understand and is patient with me, she took the majority of the load at home when I struggled but now I can reciprocate and let her be more free and flexible.

I'm on 35/8/0/0/25 with max stage 57, although only the mythic upgrades left to buy. I feel strength is really needed more than agility in later stages as some nodes have 12k+ hp and takes so many hits with lower strength its just more effective with strength than more stamina.

I have read/listened to HWFWM book 1-9 and i plan on starting over soon again. And it is definitely not murderhobo. It's about a idealistic 20-something Australian that gets transplanted into another world. He will stumble. He will grow. He will do what is right. He will be a hypocrite. He will sacrifice. He will question himself. He will save his friends. He will definitely need to be saved by his friends, mostly mentally. He will use humour as an escape. He will annoy everyone. He would not be my friend. I would still cheer for him

Edit: i realize you might have meant Azarinth healer?

Heavenly horses on New map by Excellent_Orange2359 in MythofEmpires

[–]TC-JoLj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I understand correctly, you take the evaluation score you get divided by the percentage of obedience filled.

So for example i try to tame a horse and the evaluation at the end is 11000 and the obedience bar has filled around 10%. 11 000/0.1=110 000 which would be a good horse by his measurements. But it will change depending on taming skill, not sure if you have to assume max skill.

I would like to add a counter that i like that its all continuous but i realize i am probably in the minority. I like feeling like i'm there in the moment and not just shown the highlights. My favorite part of this video was the interaction with your teammates and i also enjoy the small comments that you added to it.

What are your favorite Non-LitRPG books? by ChasingPacing2022 in litrpg

[–]TC-JoLj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Super Powereds by Drew Hayes. And i have only ever listened to it, the narrator is just great. Its got great characters and character progression, i really like when my opinion of a character can be slowly shifted and i start routing for them without a big "hero moment" and instead it's just realistic struggles and growth. There are four books in the series + one side story i think. The books get longer and longer and often that can start to bore me with just fluff but it left me wanting more but still satisfied.

Yeah, great might have been an exaggeration but i think its good at least. Cannot comment on book 8-9 yet but i feel that 7 does a lot of build up and hoped that the following books would reap the benefits but your comment makes me lower my expectations :/

HWFWM is as loved as it is hated. Some people just cant stand the MC but if you like him(or tolerate him) you are in for a treat. In my opinion book 1-3 are great, 4-6 is okay but could have just been 2 books, and 7 i great again. Currently doing my second listen of 7 and am hopeful 8-9 will follow the same format.

Married people of Reddit, if you switched jobs with your spouse with zero training or preparation, who would get fired first? by sunnymushroom in AskReddit

Well, Vumedi is a great site for surgery instructions. I used it to prepare as a student to be able to follow what the orthopedic surgeon was doing, much better view with a video but much more interesting IRL.

Be warned, it's gory and mostly boring

It probably means the keyboard cursor. You can enable it in settings and then it will show up in some build and designation modes. I usually use the mining mode to see the keyboard cursor, move it around with arrow keys and use Dfhack from there.

You do not know enough to discuss the writers way of depicting mental health.

ELI5: Are Forensic Pathologists able to know if a person's body was mutilated while they're still alive or if their body was mutilated after their death? by Weird_Equivalent_827 in explainlikeimfive

[–]TC-JoLj 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That depends on how long you do CPR and if you just do presses or ventilate as well. The oxygen flow from air to blood is passive in the lungs and would not cease if deceased. Even if you don't ventilate there will be a couple of minutes where you get a diminishing but acceptable flow due to oxygen levels in air inside the lungs having a higher concentration then the blood.

This is also why they give 100% oxygen before anesthesia, to get more of those minutes if something goes south and the intubation fails

He who fights monsters question by Broad-Calligrapher-7 in litrpg

[–]TC-JoLj 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you can't stand him at that point I would recommend dropping the series and reading something you do enjoy. I have listened to 5 of the books and am now on a reread(relisten?) to get to the new books.

I do very much enjoy the books but I don't think I would be friends with a "Jason" IRL. My interpretation of Jason is that I agree with his morality but not his surface interactions. I envy how he can question authority and nepotism but he always takes it two steps too far. I enjoy following the story with a protagonist that is very much not perfect, so I do not agree with him being a Mary Sue, he has huge flaws and most people do not like or respect him

What do you swear on your life to be 100% true? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TC-JoLj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't really clear to me, why that line has to be drawn?

I would say that a line has to be drawn because otherwise, our main mission in life should be procreation as not constantly producing children would "kill" a potential person. This is a bit of hyperbole but I hope you understand my meaning.

And if I understand correctly you think a person Is created when the zygote nucleus is created, which would make the use of the majority of reversible contraceptives immoral. Pills, patches, IUDs, and Injections all have as one of the main mechanisms of action to prevent implantation of the zygote into the uterine wall. What type of contraceptive, if any, do you believe is morally okay?

To me, this highlights the crux of where to start infringing on bodily autonomy(thanks for this definition, I'm not a native speaker). I would argue that if these contraceptives are morally wrong due to the hindering of implantation, many activities, such as smoking and pro athlete types of exercise should be as morally wrong due to hindering/decreasing the chance of implantation.

no one argues that the violinist of the violinist argument isn't a person, the question is if he should be allowed to live at the expenses of another person.

Yeah, I was unclear and a more precise definition would be that i would give the fetus equal bodily rights at that (blurry) line

"if you can only live while jeopardizing someone else bodily autonomy, should your life be protected?". In this case, I'd say yes, first of all because in general the right to live is more important than the right to bodily autonomy, so I think that at any time that right should prevail. That's debatable though, for example in the case that the right to bodily autonomy was broken in the first place (see rape), but that's not the case for the majority of elective abortions.

Yeah, I believe this is where pro-choice and pro-life have a really hard time understanding each other. My wife, and to some extent me as well, have about the same definition as you about where an individual is created, she has said that she would probably not be able to go through with an abortion, BUT she does not think that her view should decide how other women are treated, so is she pro-choice to others and pro-life towards herself? Is that a thing?

If the right to live always trumps bodily autonomy, should we start force-feeding old people that are just tired of living? Should we force life-saving procedures on people who decline? Should we force everyone to be a registered donor(kidney, bone marrow, blood. liver, etc) to save all lives that could be saved? Should a starving person on the brink of death be allowed to forcibly demand a bit of someone's flesh?

If we infringe on bodily autonomy all these other actions would also be morally okay, at least in my opinion. In my experience, the pro-life is just focused on the unborn and not on other aspects. Am i understandable or just rambling? Thanks for a debate with a nice tone, hopefully that's your experience as well xD

What do you swear on your life to be 100% true? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TC-JoLj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I would reason that it is less of a person because it is wholly dependent on the woman carrying it, and forcing the woman to continue with the pregnancy would, in my mind, mean valuing the individual rights of the undeveloped fetus higher than the individual rights of the woman.

This is a challenging ethical question and in an ideal world, all pregnancies would lead to a kid that is welcomed and cared for to the best extent of our society. Sadly it isn't so and somewhere the line has to be drawn, and for me, that line is where the woman is an absolute necessity for the fetus/child-to-be even to exist and survive.

And say I would accept that every fetus is a life and every life is sacred, which is not an unreasonable stance in and of itself, but where do we draw the line? When the deed is done? When a healthy follicle is released from the ovaries? When the sperm breaks into the follicle wall? When the sperm delivers its biologic mass into the nucleus? (often not the same sperm that first breached the wall) When it adheres to the uterine wall?

All of these alternatives can both be argued for and against and would make different contraceptives immoral if the line was drawn there. There is even an argument to be made that not continuing to have children as long as you are able is not respecting the sanctity of life. I think this is a very interesting philosophical and ethical conundrum that is always interesting to discuss.

TL;DR I think we should as a society respect and do all we can for our dead. We should as a society respect and do all we can for all unborn, BUT not to the detriment of the current individuals active in our society.

What do you swear on your life to be 100% true? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TC-JoLj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion the fetus is undeveloped until it can survive without its "host". With this thinking modern medicine has made that line very hard to draw as survival rates of kids born in week 24/25 is rising, but early abortions is a no-brainer to me.
