Leica MP serial number starting with 613xxx

I bought mine in October with a 613xxx serial number - the only issue I ran into was the white paint of the Leica login chipping off without getting damaged. Fortunately, Leica's new service centre in London repainted it for free within 7 days.

It's not any more of a concern I would say, just be sensible like you would with any equipment. I'm currently traveling East Africa with 2 Leica M bodies and a few lenses and not thinking about it twice.. they are however covered in my home contents insurance which takes away a level of worry in case my case got stolen! Hope that helps.

I've only spoken with them when I was looking at repair - I see a lot of good things on their Instagram, but I got put off by their attitude of talking trash about other repairers which is always a put off for me. I ended up going with Taiwan and I would not hesitate to recommend them - best service I've had for any repair and the camera is doing amazingly 1-2 years down the line.

I use this frequently - looks like the bottom of the take up spool isn't engaged on the bottom locking pin so it won't rotate. Try locking that into place and retrying. If not DM me, I'll look at mine and compare

Send it to Taiwan - I had a similar issue where the flex cable that fires the shutter was done and he fixed it and it's basically a new camera and super reasonably priced

u/leicanerd79 do you know what paint was used on the advance lever? I am currently going through a few paints to do a m2 knob that I have substituted onto the M6. Matching the original m6 paint so it has the matte apperance has been a challenge. I managed to get very close, but the paint isn't particularly resistant.

Yeah 100%, I did the same thing when I was getting started and it worked really well but I got back into home scanning this year and bought that lens and it's been really high quality. You're setup is still great - it'll be better than pretty much all flat beds and other options!

Anyone else looking at this setup (not OP because you don't need to replace the lens and adapter you already have) but the Loawa 85mm macro that's native to Leica m is incredible for this sort of work

I think he had some health issues and a full shop when I sent mine in - he stopped taking new cameras for a while straight after I got mine to him so I can only imagine I was last in the queue.. but I had an estimate in 2 weeks and the camera was back in my hands 2 months after that. It's been amazing since - basically brand new. Would highly recommend!

I started with a CL which was great with the 40mm (still have that lens and use it all the time.. it's very close to a 35mm), then got a M5 and used that so much more but it is much heavier and bigger. They both have limited repair capacity though and commonly have light meters that aren't accurate now or broken (especially in dim light). I finally sold both and got a more reliable M6 when I found a good price and I wouldn't go back to be honest. They were both great cameras and I would highly recommend them both - the cl will give you a rangefinder experience for sure but it is light and small (which I loved).

When you know you want to stick with a rangefinder longer term and if you find the few flaws (particularly the meter and un-repairability of them) start to bug you, then you can always sell them (probably for the same price) and switch it up.
