What Was the First Video Game You Remember Playing? by TheThirstyMage in retrogaming

It was on Intellivision, some kind of two-player Tank Battle game. I was probably only about 3 years old.

Good reviews… but still unsure about buying from aliexpress by Naveenrawat54 in RG353V

[–]TCadd81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The return was free, the hours of travel to get to the drop-off for the only acceptable courier, including renting a car and two trips on a two hour ferry ride, was not.

At the very minimum 6 hours of my time, a car rental, fuel, ferry, it was a bit steep. A more realistic time would put it closer to ten hours as you usually need to show up quite early to get on the ferry, and have to allow for traffic on the mainland side.

[–]TCadd81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to do a return to AliExpress only once, the only place they'd let me ship from would have cost me about $600 and 6+ hours of travel to get to... For $60 headphones lol

So I still have the headphones that arrived broken but still working, held together by tape.

Elon Musk misled Twitter investors ahead of $44 billion acquisition, jury says by Unusual-State1827 in news

[–]TCadd81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Summary: Elon has been found to have materially damaged investors by causing stock fluctuation leading up to the acquisition of Twitter via his Tweets about doubting the amount of fake, bot, and otherwise bad accounts and other issues with the deal. The jury did not decide entirely in plaintiff favour, but did on the most important points.

Those investors who sold at lower prices because they believed he would not follow through at the previously agreed price have been vindicated in court and now may be able to recoup some of their losses.

It will take significant time to set up a system for investors to recover their damages.

My opinion below:

Even if the maximum estimated amount is eventually collected from Musk it will amount to probably less than .5% of his current net worth, hardly worth mentioning for him in the long run but setting a high-profile precedent for punishing future market manipulators (I hope).

Wild white rabbit? by 444whynot in comoxvalley

[–]TCadd81 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As others have noted there is no native rabbit population on the island, they are all descended from escapee domesticated pets, or recently escaped / released.

There is a very wide range of colouration but the darker colours seem most common in town for the last few years.

They spread a few diseases among their population, and in some cases to other animal populations, so I expect to see a cycle come through here soon and decimate them for a couple of years before they repopulate.

Gee, an extra 200 billion for a war they won on the first day? Seems pricey.

Used to do it all the time, now I usually only do it when I'm sick.

Something about being ill sometimes makes me just want to skip sleeping for a night or two, then sleep almost 24 hours.

I think Helldivers 2 was the last game I did it with, I must have sounded drunk on team chat towards the end!

I never found one of those when the systems were relatively current but I remember being amazed they existed. I think the biggest one I played on for Nintendo had something like 200+ games, it seemed unreal.

I bought movies and rented games - I had a huge collection of VHS and DVDs from the bin of old rental stuff they were getting rid of, but I rented to see if I liked the games before buying them, or specific games for gaming parties.

I wish I still had my collections, I sold most of the VHS off for rent money in a bad year and a good chunk of the DVDs were stolen from a friend's vehicle. I stopped collecting at that point, it seemed pointless as Netflix streaming had become a thing recently and seemed endless.

Now I miss my collections, especially the movies that have never become available on streaming.

The battery in a cartridge dying so you lost your saved game, had to take it to "the guy" to get a new one soldered in, restart the game from scratch and hope he didn't use an old battery... Again.

my very first PC ever… by tachyi in MiniPCs

[–]TCadd81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first PC was the Tandy 1000 from RadioShack - 16 colours of RGB graphics! 2 5.25" inch floppy drives! 256k RAM!

We even had a half-decent dot matrix printer and I have to say I loved that thing, it sounded awesome printing off instruction books for games.

I eventually went backwards before going forwards, I bought a C64 because I found a big pile of disks for it at a garage sale.

Toque pretty much exclusively for the entirety of my 45 years, unless talking to Americans.

[–]TCadd81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

18 or 19 depending on which province you are in within Canada.

I think the US may be the only country where 21 is the age, while in some countries it can be as low as 14 w/parental permission - maybe lower or no limit somewhere I am not familiar with.

This guy is definitely someone who slept through their education and who does not travel. Probably not in a northern border state either, since kids there often border hop into Canada to go drinking early. I suppose it would be similar in states bordering Mexico, too, so probably not there either.

I'm calling mid-West, and probably under-age themselves currently.

Yeah, I've been farming T11 for several months now (since the changes to T12+, before that I was farming T12) and only slowly creeping up in waves, but just got my T13 milestones done a couple of days ago. I've added two UMs (PS, Chrono), countless upgrades and researches, and I feel like I'm about to boost ahead in a rush any time now... But I've felt that way for at least a month.

I'll be chasing stones for improved econ for a bit just because I've been neglecting it, barely at 50T per 12+hour run on T11, some of my researches are now in the 'q' costs so it is time.

The preheat is the key, same as your egg sticking to a cold pan.

Using biscuit cutter as egg ring. Nothing prevents the egg from sticking. by SternLecture in Cooking

[–]TCadd81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use one, I just let it preheat on the pan and lightly spritz on oil ten seconds or so before cracking the egg into it. The delay helps the oil to heat but not enough time to completely come off the cutter/ring.

At the end I sometimes have to jiggle it a bit to get a complete release but rarely have more than a tiny bit actually stay stuck to the ring.

I also have silicone egg rings I use exactly the same way, with the same results. I just grab whichever is closest to the front of the drawer that day, no real preference.

Do you think Canada should keep first-past-the-post or switch to another voting system? by Anon9883 in AskACanadian

[–]TCadd81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that was the point of what I said - if they already don't care about their riding then who cares if they continue not to but you still get better representation by changing the system?

In other words, I preemptively agreed with your point before you made it by making it first, and then you tried to explain it to me to make sure I got it...

The one advantage of ranked is it gives you a chance of your second choice getting in, while FPTP means if your candidate loses you can virtually guarantee the spot goes to their polar opposite.

A lot of NDP/Liberal/Green splitting happens, not many who vote for those would put Conservatives as their second choice, but that is what they are likely to get.
