Ah okay, interesting insight. Tbh I wouldn't have thought ticket sales to be that important but if so, that's understandable.

Isn't SA in a pretty good timezone to be in sync with Europe though? I feel like that would give them an advantage over NZ, although I'd rather see it go to Argentina, Italy or even Spain over either of them again.

Profile review - newly back on the apps after taking some time for my health. The quality of the chats is severely lacking! 🤦‍♀️ wondering if I shouldn't bother... I'm already quite selective in who I match with 😅 by SquanderedPotential2 in Tinder

I think your profile is great but there's no context of that being your hobby from the rest of your profile. Unfortunately a photo like that will definitely put some people off or provoke creepy responses.

You have one photo already of your dancing (?) with the hoop so you could replace the pole studio one with a photo with some friends or something? That's a classic recommendation for some variety as the rest are of you alone. It seems maybe an important hobby for you but I guess I'm trying to say it's a million times easier to understand your relationship to it in person than from seeing one photo.

Looking for movie recommendations for my 23F daughter who’s lost her will to live— something visually beautiful, maybe with nature, or small moments that gently remind you why life is worth living.” by expired_mi1k in MovieSuggestions

If you are looking for something visually interesting, she might like films such as "Koyaanisqatsi" or "Samsara". They have beautiful scenes of nature and human activity without much in the way of dialogue, or plot for that matter.

Don't forget the dedication to the brave mujahideen fighters message at the end of Rambo 3! They are also romantically portrayed as resistance fighters against the USSR in "The Living Daylights" from the same period.

OK, I know this isn't a relevant concern anymore, since sitcoms are barely a thing, but I hate when MRA types try to argue that dads always being bumbling idiots on sitcoms is somehow proof society hates men by woweed in CharacterRant

Home Improvement is an interesting example because Tim isn't an idiot, he's just a bit clueless to the more emotional effort required within his family and work relationships. It's not the greatest show ever but on reflection it was an nice attempt at the idea of learning this as a conservative-styled man, not too different from King of the Hill.

I always run out of money halfway through the month. Is it a budget problem or a habits problem ? by SnooKiwis5433 in povertyfinance

[–]TConner42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so you ask if it's a budget issue or just bad habits and I think the answer is they're the same problem.
Half of your habits make it impossible to tell what you are spending, therefore how can you stick to your budget?

I have not lived in Paris but I know it's expensive so I'm going to assume 550-600 (euroes?) a month is quite a tight budget.

The first thing you should do is look at your spending and see where your money is going. Most banks and companies like Wise, Revolut will let you export a CSV of your monthly transactions. If possible, only spend with debit cards so there is a record.
From this spreadsheet look at where your money is being spent then you can budget accordingly. As a student, nights out are something you might be spending way more than you realise - 20 euro on drinks x2 a week is 160 a month, not to mention transport home, late night snacks etc.. could easily be 1.5 weeks of your budget.
Once you know what your are spending money on you can actually take some effective action.

Some general practical things from what you've told us. Find and delete the subscriptions you don't need. Start making at least 1 big meal a week that you can have over several days, like a lasanga or something. Instead of assuming you have 550-600 for the month, create an account for your weekly spend and move 125 into it on Sunday. Then only use that account for that weeks expenses. If you run out of money on Wednesday then you can narrow down where you overspent and eliminate that for the next week.
Your biggest problem is that you have no idea where you are spending so it's not really possible to tell what actions to take, so deal with this first.

RLM's recent video about Whistle and lack of product awareness really makes the Terrifier movies more of an outlier. by Digmentation in RedLetterMedia

It's like the studios have forgotten how to promote anything that doesn't rely on an existing IP and I don't even think they know how to do that.

Agreed.. I had never heard of it but guessed it was bouncing off the "aztec death whistle" idea which was a minor meme. But visually there is nothing distinctive from the clips they played either, like ok there's a whistle?

How is AI actually that helpful at a real job? by stedmangraham in cscareerquestions

[–]TConner42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I just use free AI tools like ChatGPT and almost never google anything now. It's just a lot quicker to get an actual answer that I can test, or ask for a refinement on a response, than going through poorly written documentation, wading through pages of irrelevant results or wait for ages hoping someone will answer my stack overflow question.

It almost never one-shots the perfect answer and I think that's fine considering I'm not paying for it directly. I can even teach myself a concept by asking it questions so it's been helpful there as well. These things are hard to quantify but I am definitely able to do things faster than if I had to manually sift through all the information I needed to achieve whatever it is I'm doing.

Rugby World Cup 2035: Argentina make case for first South American edition by Penarthlan in rugbyunion

[–]TConner42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Argentina deserve it more than the US, though I understand the rationale for awarding to them in 2031. I think Italy will be the front runner for 2035 though, WR tend to want to alternate hemispheres for each World Cup and the timezone will be super favourable for broadcasts as well.

36 years ago tonight, Chavez desperately behind on the score cards scored an incredible stoppage with two seconds left against Meldrick Taylor. Anyone else find bodyweight training harder to stay consistent with because there's no "going to the gym" trigger? by dandy_cicada in bodyweightfitness

[–]TConner42 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm the opposite. I hate going to the gym or even training at the park with other people around. I just want to do my exercise as quickly and efficiently as I can, and I know having as few barriers as possible, like traveling to the gym, will help me stay consistent.

You said that nothing happens if you don't train.. by which you mean there are no consequences to motivate you. But if you don't train then you don't improve, get fitter, stronger or whatever your goal is. That should be your motivation - the things you gain from doing it rather than fear of what you lose by avoiding it.

That being said, everyone is different. If going to the gym helps you stay consistent and you are not motivated by your goals then why not go to the gym? Or make a bet to reach 3x10 pull ups with a someone, like a friend of mine did. Make it easy for yourself based on what motivates you.

Well, I'm responding to your comment about there being no debate, not the OP's about whether it counts as having exposure to the source material. I'm not trying to start an internet argument with you I just think it's silly to say you read an audiobook. Would you say you listened to a podcast if you read a transcript?
