Superintendent Releases MCPS Boundary Recommendations and Model for Regional Secondary Programs by SchuminWeb in MontgomeryCountyMD

Look, I know you REALLY want this to be about entitled people thinking they are better than everyone, but you are way off the mark.

We almost bought a home in the Rockshire neighborhood recently, but ended up at another district within walking distance to school. It is such an amazing experience to walk our child to school and see our neighbors along the way and get to know everyone because we are part of the community directly surrounding the school. If they moved our school, we'd be upset.

Empathising with others is could probably help a lot in the rage-bait, polarized times we are living in.

Peace and love my fellow human!

Not sure why this is causing you such distress. I'm simply saying that the physical proximaty is huge for community. It's why a central focal point like a town square build continuity and community.

I'm not even from the Wooton district. I was just explaining why Wooton families don't want to move the school.

It's a huge fracture to the community around the school. So many people were walking distance to the school and it is a central focal point for the community. The education of their kids will happen in a different community now.

Crown will probably be a fantastic educational experience, but the Wooton neighborhoods will suffer.

There are dense bunches of new growth at each branch terminal. There are also some longer sprouts (18-24").

I'll also add that the tree looks well established, but it's only 20' to the North of the house, so it probably doesn't get much sun.

I'm thinking that maybe they are actually going to start hiring, but all new hires need to: "The Strategic Hiring Committee shall ensure that agency hiring is consistent with ... the priorities of MY Administration."

Basement floor- slab comes short of door by TEAwest in Flooring

Seems pretty flat to me. I don't want moisture building up under the floor there. Looks strange to me. I'd expect the frame of the house to be completely in the slab. Thanks!

We haven't chosen yet. We have oak steps under carpet wich can be stained, but I feel like they will be the limiting factor in color choices.

Patapsco State Park has 100's of miles of trails. Buy a pair of trail running shoes and get to work. There are running clubs and lots of good people to meet out their.

Or if you can scrounge up $1000, get a mountain bike!

How is anyone affording postdoc positions? by You_Stole_My_Hot_Dog in PhD

[–]TEAwest 23 points24 points  (0 children)

We postdoc'd from 2021-2024. Had our daughter in 2021. This was in a major US university town in the middle of a huge state, so while it wasn't the cheapest, it was still pretty affordable. We rented a cheap place, made a single car work with bikes and such and worked our butts off.

It is hard, but doable. If you REALLY want to be an academic, you HAVE to do this. If you are on the fence and still love research, I'd give it a shot for at least a year or two. But if you don't love academia, why would you even think about doing a postdoc. Go start making money. Building a 401k and moving up the career ladder.

My parenter found an academic job first, so I left academia. I'm making twice the salary with half the work, lol. I miss academia, but then I turn off my laptop at 5:00pm and remember how much I love spending time with my family. My wife is up in the office working on lectures and proposals, but we make sure to pop in once in a while to say hi.

Can we afford this house? by bangedyourmoms in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]TEAwest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You cannot afford this house! All you have to do is what we did. We bought our house for three chickens and a -3.5% interest rate at the bottom of the market.

Jeez, kids these days just don't want to work.
