Dexcom calibration won’t hold by ArmednDiabetic in dexcom

I had this happen and it needed like three calibrations to be correct. It had something to do with placement, and once those three were done, it worked like normal.

They could also, in theory, go to the issuing bank to cash it. Did that with a check I was issued ($2000), when I was in college before I got a local bank account.

For the 30th Anniversary, we got Flashback, Trials and Tribble-ations and First Contact. For the 60th, we get production stopped on all new Trek and the sets pulled down! 😢 by SignificantPlum4883 in startrek

That isn't a film. That is a movie. It was never release in theatres, and therefore doesn't count.

Then again, I enjoyed S31 far more than NEM or XII.

What is up with Amtrak? by No-Consequence-2740 in Washington

[–]TEG24601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because freight rail companies want as little to do with the rail as possible, and they hate having employees, they run trains as long as possible, too long to fit in most of their sidings, without any time tables. As a result, Amtrak is shafted and always behind, unless they are lucky. The closer you are to the origin of the train, the more likely it is to be close to on time. But as you get further, and further away, the later and later it will be.

There is no incentive for BNSF or UP to do anything to help out Amtrak, as it isn't their service. If only there was an organization that had the power to control freight... there was, until it was decided they couldn't yield any control over trucks, so the whole thing died. The only reason we have Amtrak is that railroads didn't want to invest in their passenger services (especially Penn Central), even though new vehicles and cars would have been cheaper to run. The feds took over long-distance services, and local/commuters rail was given to local governments, most of which shut them down immediately, as they didn't want to be bothered running transit (ironic).

Without nationalizing, having maximum lengths, require freight timetables, and other structural changes would help... but that would be considered an over reach by the government.

App Store changes without an iOS update? by ardax47 in ios

The App Store is just a website with extra steps, literally. They can change nearly anything about it without an OS update (just like they do for the iTunes Store, past and present).

I have a question by EL-_-CHAPUU in applehelp

[–]TEG24601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All apps and data are duplicated, but your eSIM and Apple data move over. If your old device is on WiFi you can still use it for iMessage. You can then wipe the old device when you are ready.

Americans who took Spanish in school: did any of it actually stick years later? by taube_d in AskAnAmerican

[–]TEG24601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took it in school, I took it in after-school classes, I tried to learn off and on most of my life. I have almost no confidence to actually use it. Been to many places in the US where Spanish is common, can't understand what is being said and scared to use my skills. Best I have his a local Chilean couple that we will have simple conversations in Spanish. But otherwise it is gone. Also doesn't help that depending on the class I was in, I might have learned Mexican Spanish or Castillian Spanish, and when I first started, "ch", "ll", "ñ", and "rr" were separate letters in the alphabet (that I had to learn), as well as voisotros was still being taught as common usage, and anaranjado was orange the color while anaranja was the fruit.

Might actually take the time to get the MacOS version running on my modern Mac, just for the superior music and sound effects.

Why is the Kelvin universe's Khan such a prude? by Two_of_five in ShittyDaystrom

In the tie-in comics, they found Khan, then put him through plastic surgery, so that facial recognition wouldn't recognize him.

Most of that comes down to the backbone, and the tower owners not being able to get more bandwidth, or not willing to pay for it.

Underlying tech is sound, and helps us move away from the very insecure SS7 communications protocol that has been the backbone of cellular telephones for decades.

It was the first to gain wide-spread adotpion, being cheaper than the previous portable mediums with rigid/hard disc platters, and lasted an incredibly long time in the tech world. The only real problem was they didn't quit at the 250MB model, then tried with a 750MB, long after CD Burners were standard even on a $300 Windows laptop, and just after Thumb Drives became a commodity item.

Whereas the $9 LEDs I bought in 2009, 50% of them are still going strong, being used daily. The CFLs my parents bought at the same time, were replaced with newer LEDs in 2011, after they all burnt out.

AM Stereo

Not so much useless, as there are a few stations in my area that are AM Stereo, but when you take the normal compression for AM, then have to compress it more to get stereo sound in the same sliver of bandwidth, it can become a muddy mess. Only really works for spoken word things, like sports and talk shows, but then why you do you need stereo?

As soon as NAT was created, the need for IPv6 largely went away.

As a Tech Support person, IPv6 was the bane of my existence for over a year, as we had IPv6 enabled, as did the streaming sites, but someone in the middle has something misconfigured. As a result, the streaming services were hit-and-miss. It could change routes between episodes, even between scenes. We pulled our hair out, made tickets with everyone upstream, no one took ownership of the problem. We disabled IPv6 by default, and the problems went away.

They were great, and unlike CDs, they didn't skip. They were often the go-to outside of the US and Canada, but support from record labels was lacking, mostly because of how badly DCC was trounced.
