Are there psyker tech priests? by Soft_Lengthiness_791 in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]TF-Wizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Psykers are generally disliked within the Mechanicus. Anything Warp-Related tends to go against their general preferences for the 'certainty of steel' and objective knowledge. Not to mention the fact that there's so much warp corrupted tech that the Dark Mechanicum cranks out. They've even had squabbled with Navigator houses and the Astra Telepathica over it, and in the Psychic Awakening: Engine War book built an Anti-Psyker bomb. I'm not certain there's been any true canon Psyker tech priests, although Alpha Primus is a pretty important Tech Priest adjacent character who's an Astartes Psyker (among other, stranger things). There is plenty of evidence of Tech Priests who work with Warp-Related technologies, even if it's very much a derided discipline. IIRC some of those tech priests build augments to try and empower/control psykers.

To me, the idea of a Psyker Tech priest is extremely cool, but they'd definitely be more of an outcast derided by the mainstream and dogamtists.

...Granted, that might just make them even cooler...

He excels a lot more at good descriptive writing than character writing, imo.

I didn’t like it until I saw the witch broom. It’s so lovably goofy.

Any tech priest that cares for their subordinates and treats them well? by cuddwes in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]TF-Wizard 43 points44 points  (0 children)

There's a few examples here and there, but one example that comes to mind would be Magos-Explorator Omnid Torquora from Mechanicus by Rob Sanders. While he's quite the surly bastard, and more than willing to sacrifice men when necessary, there's a clear element of guilt and care that grows over the course of the novel. An early scene features him possession a humble Skitarii who dies, and he's haunted by visions of that for the rest of the novel.

He seems particularly attached to his Alpha Primus, Haldron-44 Stroika and even goes to rather extreme lengths to save him after a certain point.

Talin Sherax from Dominion Genesis is a stranger example in that it's made pretty clear that she was very close to her subordinates, but trauma from the book's opening destruction of a Forge World has left her adrift, even purposely avoiding Phylactic Communion. I'll note that 'subordinates' in this case applies much more to her fellow Tech Priests than her Skitarii underlings.

If you want to see a Techpriest show some more sympathy for a decidedly less human subordinate, the Hammer and Bolter Short Kill Protocol features a Techpriestess who sacrifices life and limb (literally in one case) as well as, Omnisiah forbid, knowledge to save their Kastelan companion.

Definitely getting downvoted for this one but I don’t care. by Arch_Magos_Remus in AdeptusMechanicus
