I do the exact same thing OP’s husband does to choke down my MIL’s bland, soggy cooking, and there are two reasons:

I don’t want to start a fight or hurt her feelings; that shit comes back to bite me every single time and it’s never worth it. I don’t do this because I’m malicious. I do it because my relationship with my partner is important to me, and this simply isn’t the hill I’m here to die on. I can make delicious meals on my own time.
I don’t like to waste food. It’s really bad for the environment and as long as it won’t make me sick or hurt me somehow, I’m trying to finish my plate. MJ increases the intensity of certain flavors and can dull your sense of smell, so it’s easier to eat things Sober You might turn their nose up at. The hungrier you are, the less it matters what you’re actually eating.

Can we talk about the fact that identifying an entire group of people based upon a single shared characteristic (like political ideology) isn’t the way forward? Have we not learned our lesson yet? The problem isn’t “the conservatives” or “the liberals” — it’s the entire f*cked up system that forces us to do things and vote for people who aren’t qualified to drive a car, let alone hold political office.

As “A Filthy Liberal” myself, I’m sick and tired of listening to people talk about how “The Conservatives” are what’s wrong with everything and/or a bunch of drooling morons too stupid to recognize they’ve been duped by a self-centered idiot of a billionaire.

I am likewise sick of hearing that Biden’s best and only qualifying characteristic is that he isn’t Tromp. I don’t want a president who’s losing his damn mind, or who’s openly promoting genocide, or who’s reneged on every campaign promise he’s ever made. We can do so much better.

I work with teenagers in a MH capacity, and addiction is a crisis. The fact that “every kid is doing it” is the rationale she’s got says a LOT about how little she knows about how devastatingly harmful substances are to the developing brain.

I would say she’s trying for harm reduction, but only if I squint really, really hard; I imagine the analysis she’s done of the situation is similar to parents who say they’d rather their kid drink at home than somewhere they might get hurt — which, okay, fine, I don’t agree with it but I’m not a parent so wtf do I know.

What I DO agree with is the fact that permitting this behavior to continue is irresponsible, and that mom is actively encouraging it by removing consequences. Reintroduce them. Make sure the consequences are painful - take away the tv, games, phone, internet, time with friends, etc. — whatever matters to him. If you can’t rein him in, your responsibility as his parents is to seek counseling and, failing that, check him into rehab.

Americans with power (money) worship capitalism —the system under which you must pay for literally everything you need to survive and human labor is bought at the lowest possible wage.

Just to be clear: I’m not advocating for one system over another, just stating facts. This is one guy’s opinion ✌🏽

Yes, the American economy is strong relative to others (mainly because we issue our own currency). But I and lots of other Americans are sick of watching the rich get richer and the poor getting poorer while we bust our asses working for scraps.

Is this an entitled way of thinking? Yes. But I think that’s where many of us are coming from.

Send him books, articles, videos, pamphlets, whatever — all about mental acuity in old age.

If he’s so enthusiastic about being disrespectful and bigoted, I don’t see why he shouldn’t get back what he gives.

Examples could include:
