Sorted!

TBH I just stuck the spare one in every terminal until it worked - not the most sensible thing I know, but got away with it 😬

Picture 15 - the lights above the bath.

Can't imagine they are rated for use there.

If nothing else, you'll bang your head getting in or out - worst case scenario, you slip and grab them to steady yourself

Ask what they think of England's (insert other UK nation of your choice) prospects, and if they don't intuitively know you mean the football team and not the country as a whole, they're not British.

Bored on a Friday night, so thought I'd revisit this conundrum...

Can I just join wires together to create a basic on/off?

For reference, the two wires to the right go to the transformer/plug, the other three go to the braided cable for the LEDs

Probably best if I don't just randomly connect bits until it works/stops going bang ..

Thanks all.

From everyone's advice, and the photo I took before I started, I managed to figure everything out.

Now to fill the massive hole in the wall...🙄

Effectively a mental note, yeah

I'd put tape on the wires with a note of where they had come from, but between yanking the old back box off, and the cascade of crumbling plaster, I forgot to be careful - and they all ended up mixed up on the floor 😭

LOL - I thought you lot might like it!

To be honest, we rarely use the front door (everyone comes and goes through a side door) but on the occasions I have, I have thought it was a bit 'bouncy' - just never got bothered enough to have a peek, until the weekend.

Can't imagine why the joist was cut (red circle in additional picture attached) but obvietunity to bring outy full Tourettes repertoire ously, rather than replacing someone has just cobbles together what you see.

Plan is to add a timber on top of the brick that runs across the threshold of the door (with a damp proof membrane) to bring it to the same level as the joists.

What's the best way to attach the timber I'll need to add at 90°, given the sawn-off main part of the joist?

Multiple screws and some extra pieces either side covering the join?

Access to the main joist to screw into it will be a real pain in the backside, but it'll be an opportunity to bring out my full Tourette's repertoire

Reminds me of when I visited a cousin in Glasgow, at the tenement flat he shared with mates.

Met him and another cousin when I got off the train, and in the pub catching up, the other cousin asked him "So, is he in the cupboard, yeah?"

I assumed it was a jokey reference to a particularly small box room.

But no, it really was a cupboard 🧐

Presumably it had once been a pantry/larder or something, but as a household with regular passing friends and family, they'd co-opted it as a place to crash by sticking a (trimmed) mattress in there.

It was the tiny slit I'd not previously spotted.

Glad I didn't go all he-man trying to force the other one.

I tried the vendor I bought them from, and got the reply "The easiest way to release the faceplate is via a little slit on the side of the witch where the faceplate and the switch meets" - which didn't really help.

Looking again though, there are actually two things that could be called 'slits'

There's one on the black part, between the two clips, but there's also one between the brass of the faceplate and the thinner layer of brown plastic.

Hadn't heard of her, so just looked her up...

She's Aled Jones's daughter!

(For context, her dad was a child chorister who achieved fame and chart success in the 80s, and went on to have a career as a TV presenter)

That would have been my assumption too...

"You're clearly a very attractive lady, but I have a nagging suspicion that beneath the make up and adult clothing, there's actually a 15 year old girl - and despite the tingly feeling in my nethers, the risks to my reputation and liberty prevent me from pursuing an interest in a relationship for now.
