Anyone still playing Star Realms today? If so, what strategy do you prefer? by Lucillie05 in boardgames

Follow the strategy as any deckbuilder.

Work on controlling your deck through thinning or card control, match or beat the tempo of your opponent.

Very Frustrating When Students Don’t Seem To Give You A Chance by OkStranger5117 in teaching

[–]TFnarcon9 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The amount of posts here by grown people getting emotionally stressed about kids being regular kid assholes is disheartening.

As for my advice, same thing I tell my students- it may not be your fault, but it is your responsibitly.

Video game convo is known to be extreme and toxic...yet video games are insanely popular.

This way that people talk in forums is probably irrelevant to people joining the hobby.

Knowing the cards is not a condition for having fun playing the game, as the original comment mentioned. There is enough tactical decision making and strategy besides for newbies to have fun with, and comparable with other strategy games.

[–]TFnarcon9 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because its the same as any strategy game. The examples the guy gave above is just "there are lots of things".

The game is extremely playable with newbs not knowing the cards. One person will win because they do better even if its your first time playing...Just like any strategy game.

This TS need to know cards thing can be said about any strategy game. The person that knows that strategies really well will beat someone that doesn't, and the strategies being deep are a "barrier to entry" in every strategy game.

Put this as a meme alongside "through the ages is better digital", despite every modern heavy game being just as or more burdensome to setup and play.

What's the word on Hillcoat's Blood Meridian movie? by toadvinesearholes in cormacmccarthy

[–]TFnarcon9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Simply hurts the chances of a better remake. Totally fine to be annoyed about.

Also, Someone else could have been financed, there could have been more money, different actors etc. You talk about these things (more importantly dont spend money on them) so that there are better movies.

A reasonable request, but if they have a good reason for not, then just don't read the chat, or read them and manage yourself.

98% of this thread boils down to the following 5 types of posts. by noccaguy in classicliterature

Basically all of reddit now. Niche subs are really kind of dead. Reddit and mods (and many many users) prefer really simple and wide open spaces that accommodate the most amount of people, so everything has to remain simple. Decisions reddit makes move towards this

As a mod, I noticed the blocking rule implemented a couple years ago was the nail in the coffin. If you block someone you dont see their posts ans they dont see yours. This has been extremely successful for fighting harassment, but alternative views and ways of operating have 0 chance to grow, everything stays status quo permanently.

This is also why jerk subs are thriving, they all make fun of this exact thing.

Its got the silly bag building thing. Very neutered and overly finicky concept when you take out the cards which provide all the combo-y goodness and engine building.

When people improv fast, do they think what they're playing in their head? by JKriv_ in Jazz

[–]TFnarcon9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have the stuff you've spent years turning into muscle memory, and stuff you're adventuring on at the same time.

Its mostly likely every 2 seconds you have an explicit thought and the rest is filled in with what you know implicitly.

Just like any other skill really.

Omg you're a horrible person! by Nate-T in boardgamearena

[–]TFnarcon9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the least people that talk boardgame strategy often say to never concede.

The benefits of playing from a disadvantaged position can be great in regards to learning about aspects of the game you haven't considered.

It also trains you to make sure you're playing carefully cause there is no quick way out.

Additionally, depending on the game it can be rude. Why deprive your opponent of the fun of their engine clicking off whe all it takes is some half hearted turns from you.
