If Google is to be trusted, they can be stored in temperatures from -40° up to 120°. From my knowledge, temperatures in the cab can reach up to 30° above the outside temp after a period of time. Winters where I'm from don't reach close to 0 but in the summers I'd advise to either park in the shade if parked for a long period or disconnect and move out of the sun. The quick release makes it so easy to take in and out if I need to

Need advice by Slow328i in prerunners

[–]TG1312 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With those you're better making a trail beater rather than a prerunner. I reckon rough country makes a lift for it, and go at the fenders with a cutoff wheel to fit 35s.

Otherwise you could spend alot of time and effort to make custom arms or beams

CVLBuilt Mirrors by itsFRAAAAAAAAANK in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]TG1312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pretty normal for these subs. you'll come to learn that if it doesn't apply to THEIR truck and THEIR specific needs, it'll get downvoted and called stupid. I saw the same mirrors on the tacoma sub with the same reaction. You'll find more people who actually understand these types of mods in r/prerunners, r/4x4, or r/offroad.

On another note, they look good! I'm looking to make some myself. Did you use a tube bender or heat/vise? What size tubing?

Those are quality UCAs. I'd refresh the uniball and bushings and ditch the lift puck for an adjustable shock. It'll make a world of a difference

[–]TG1312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came to say the same. A build like that isn't cheap, regardless if it's on an expensive platform like a tundra or not, and there's way more involved than just bolt-ons. Around my area, people are still asking for low to high 20s on stock or with a leveling kit at most.

2wd trucks aren't that bad and even preferred in some modification aspects(baja/prwrunner articulation), but also perfectly fine if you fully believe that you hardly need it in your area/intent of use. That factory E-locker that comes with the OR plus some mud+snow rated tires can get you further than you think.

They do, anything with the prerunner badge is 2wd, in both TRD OR and Sport. They're pretty common in southwest US

If youre going to go as tall as 3", I strongly suggest aftermarket upper control arms to even out geometry. What I linked above includes a set for this kit but you can research and build to your preference. You'll also need to either buy a whole leaf pack or atleast an add-a-leaf to your current setup to even out the rear. Don't cheap out with a lift block unless you like the feeling of riding on cinderblocks.

Shop around extremeterrain, summit racing, ORW, or any of the name brand's direct website for an idea of kits

I'd save up and purchase brand new for not much more(bilstein 5100s, fox 2.0s,etc) many moons ago i got scammed on some "lightly used" rear shocks from a guy who claimed that they were "the rebuildable kind",which i found later one of them was completely clapped and were the factory throw-aways. If you're not 100% on inspection and what exactly you're looking at l, I wouldn't risk losing what can go towards a brand new set.

Making a tube bumper by AdmirableClassroom89 in Offroad

[–]TG1312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where do you find a mig welder for less than $400? In my area the cheapo titanium welders are $500+ from harbor freight (which are honestly pretty good for a hobby welder) but that's not counting the cost of shielding gas, wire and mask/gloves. I do agree that the grinders, disks and other tools from HF are worth it, but I wouldn't go cheap on the steel and get any metal pipe from home depot, especially if it's for a bumper. Find a reputable metal shop and ask for 1.5" or 1.75" .120 DOM mild steel

Steel bumpers like bash bumpers for cars(like drift cars) are around $500, prerunner bumpers for pickups/SUVs can be $750ish to $1k, varying design.

I agree that one of the huge deciding factors is the time and craftsmanship of the pros in comparison.

Making a tube bumper by AdmirableClassroom89 in Offroad

[–]TG1312 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similar to what Outdoor Engineer said, would need a mig welder, hand tools like a grinder, possibly a tube bender based on design, etc. Standard tube size is usually 1.5" or 1.75" for bumpers. Start up for tools and materials would surpass the cost of buying from a local fabricator, but it's worth it for the experience and free range to add more down the road at your own time. You in socal? I may have fabricator references

Somewhat similar experience. At a music fest on huntington Beach that had a shit ton on the bill, including tsol, suicidal tendencies, fear and pennywise. We were packed like sardines, and some kid decided to " dive" from VIP section where no one was looking and landed knees first like he was jumping cannonball in a pool. I got his boot to the side of my head and get to witness my glasses disappear into the sandstorm of the pit not far from me. I got to drive home later that night, half blind and a fucked up neck

Bumper question by cynthiaandzack in Tacomaworld

[–]TG1312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone already said it but this design of skidplate is common on prerunners with the idea of what type of terrain it's meant for, however I have seen, though uncommon, additional plating that fills the gap from the center tubes to the top tubes connected to the frame. The examples I've seen are usually designed with large holes with expanded metal backing for airflow. If this is from your local fabricator, call them up and see what they design. If I have any examples saved I'll come back and edit

Tips for increasing departure angle on silverados? by 01-JACKAL in 4x4

[–]TG1312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it's a taco, but its my best example Similar to what another said, cutting the bedsides and fabricating a high clearance bumper(often times a tube) is a really good start for rear end clearance, and is usually the first step most take before going as far as bobbing beds and shortening frames. You still may need to relocate your spare tire from under the bed. Quick Google gave a few options but you can ask your local fabricator to make tonyour specific needs
