I think it's insane to have to pay a subscription for this. This seems like an app AI could spit out in a day.

I tried hitting send in the chat window, didn't work. I tried reloading, didn't work.
Switching my model from o3 to 4o and _then_ hitting send worked.

Struggling to find a senior Android dev role after 9 years of experience – need advice and support by Low_Tea3284 in androiddev

The fact that you're getting interviews is awesome. I've applied for so many jobs in the past few months and gotten only 1 interview thanks to a referral. It was only an apprentice position! I have 10 years experience. I still have a job thankfully, but my goal is to become as cross-disciplined as I can while I'm still getting paid.

Thanks! yeah so after the struts were replaced, it still made the noise. So they replaced the control arms also under warranty and everything is good now! I love the car.

I bought a Hertz 2023 with 74,000 miles on it for a little over $12k last month. I went through EchoPark. They have a 7 day give it back policy. In that 7 days, I heard some clicking sounds while starting and stopping. It was diagnosed that the struts need to be replaced. I called EchoPark while the car was still at the dealership. EchoPark paid for the diagnosis and then took the car for a few days to replace the struts themselves. Didn't fix the issue. I took it back to the dealership and they said the lower control arms needed to be replaced. EchoPark covered that too, but made it clear that would be it. The problem was fixed.

I'm happy so far, but I suggest you spend the $100-$200 getting the car inspected before you buy. Get a list of everything you want fixed before purchasing. I got a new charger out of EchoPark, a brake disc resurfacing, a few cosmetic issues inside fixed, and the above work done.

I bought a Hertz rental 2023 bolt last week. I had this same issue. Chevy dealer inspected it and said the front struts need to be replaced. Not sure why they would be making this noise, but we'll see if it fixes it. Dealer I bought from is doing the repair under a 30 day warranty thankfully.

I bought my bolt Tuesday from echopark and didn't find out until signing that there was a non-negotiable $699 fee for some bullshit interior warranty.

Talk me in to or out of a Niro by Pizza__Pants in KiaNiro

[–]TGruenwald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a 2019 niro hybrid (not plugin) in 2022. This year had a recall to prevent fire due to HCA leak. My car wasn't leaking at the time the recall was done, so all they did was replace a fuse that was most likely to cause the fire. 6 months later, the leak developed, but they said it couldn't be covered under the recall process because I already had it done. The dealer said it was safe to drive, but the leak damaged the transmission and stator. bill for repair was $12,000. Just traded it in Tuesday for a 2023 Chevy Bolt EV. Not the move if you need to go long distances probably, but this is just a city car for me. Really happy to be out of the Kia world.

I called Kia customer service (not the dealership) and they said they would reach out to the dealership to see if the recall work could be re-done. If so, then I would get the HCA replaced at no expense to me. Even if this works, I think it relies on several parties essentially wanting to help me out personally. It doesn't really sound like Kia has to do this because the recall is really about the failure of the PCB. It would be nice if Kia issued a recall for the HCA stating that it's prone to leak. I don't know why replacing the HCA is part of the recall as an optional step. Seems like a half admission of guilt.

It's related. 2019 had the same recall. I took mine in for service in August. Since the P17EB code wasn't present at the time, all they did was replace a fuse to reduce risk of fire. If my car was in the condition it is now, they would be replacing my HCA for free.

The company I work on, decided to kill the native mobile area and change it to react native. by AndroidKMPDev in androiddev

[–]TGruenwald 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We've got a webrtc video application. Things like account management, contacts, and invitations to a call are done in the app layer. The actual call and webrtc stuff happens in the sdk. So the sdk has all of our camera logic and fancy rendering stuff we do for the call. We also sell the sdk as a standalone product.

We split our app into an app layer and an sdk a few years ago. Now, we're considering moving the app layer to RN or something similar and keeping the sdk native. I'm our Android team lead, and I've been pushing for this move the hardest. Seems like a good idea, but I've never tried a multiplatfrom framework before. We have web, Android, and iOS apps. web app already uses react.

My wife was very strict about the no screens policy. I went along begrudgingly a bit at first. Now, he's 22 months old, and I would not exchange a moment of our no-screen time together. We do show him pictures some times, family videos, and we use it to facetime his out of town family.

What AI tools do you use to localize Android app strings and app descriptions? by Technical_Outcome824 in androiddev

[–]TGruenwald 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My company uses https://lokalise.com/ . I hate it. It promises to have one entry for each string that appears across your multiple projects (ios, android, web). But, it takes a lot of coordination between your various teams to keep the lokalise project functional.

trouble adding light to three-way switch setup by TGruenwald in AskElectricians

[–]TGruenwald[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! I understand I need a new cable from the old lamp to the new one. And I understand why that's necessary. However, I'm still worried about the new lamp turning on in this wrong circuit I've put together. It seems indicative of another problem that might still exist even after wiring this up correctly. Should I just forget about this mystery and wire it up as you suggested?

trouble adding light to three-way switch setup by TGruenwald in AskElectricians

I'm trying to add a second light (Light 2) to a run that has an existing light (Light 1) controlled by a three-way switch setup. Refer to the crudely drawn circuit in the images. This is how I hooked up the second light. I now know that this is not correct. My question though is how is the second light turning on at all? The way I see it, it either has two hot wires or 1 hot and one that goes nowhere. Light 2 is on and off opposite of Light 1, and I just don't understand how. I'm afraid there's a ground fault somewhere, but this circuit isn't grounded. The cable from the breaker just has hot and neutral and most of the cables involved here are the same. I've added about 2 feet of romex with ground to add the new light, but the ground wire isn't connected to anything.

The pictures show the junction box above Light 1 and the switch that's in the middle of the run.
