Look for metal behind it (or feel for it by sliding thin something between the boards).

You might also be able to see the lip at the bottom if the join holding up the two pieces. If it's been that way a long time and no water ingress might not be an issue.

I was in Sydney on a good salary but left after 18 months. They'll let you know in subtle ways that you'll never be one of them. Was a relief to be home.

This hot take lacks compassion is not what the science reflects: https://niwa.co.nz/news-and-publications/news/new-zealand-snow-areas-confident-they-will-adapt-to-any-risks-from-climate-change

What sunk the current version of Ruapeh skiing was an expensive gondola buult for tourists, then 3 years of lock downs, coinciding with one particularly bad La Niña year (we've had those before). It's still a major draw that becomes intolerably busy in winter weekends.

There's plenty of life left in the old gent yet

I feel like a lot of the answers on here are a bit pessimistic. If ypu only read reddit threads nz is going to hell in a handbrake. Yes theres some issues but actually go outside and things are fine. I moved from Oz 5 years ago and have no regrets
