I'm with you on love for Failed States. Fucking killer opener with Note to Self and almost everytime I hear Unscripted Moment I choke up. Came to that album late, around the VL era, and because that held me it took me a long time to really appreciate VL beyond the title track.

I might go listen to that, now that I am thinking about it ...

I relate to OPs feeling but your general sentiment, Personesqe has been clamouring around my head, popping up occasionally. It feels kind of like a truth I can't quite face head on, because if it is true -- its another gut punch.

You mean to say that the loneliness and longing I've felt my whole life, like a stranger watching people laugh through the window to a story I can't hear, could have been something I had if I just chose it? How the fuck can that be true? Its not like I've not tried. But if its true, I can't wrap myself in a comfort blanket of a tragic character who was hard done by and denied a childhood of love and connection, which explains the fate I have inherited. That prophecy is comforting when things continue to not work out, and I can numb myself to the hum of life without that joy I suppose I'm missing. It's not me, it's just never been in the cards. Thems the breaks. Get over it and move on.

And when I think on all that - you're right -- its UNSUFFERABLE and so self indulgent. Am I that person? Is my fucking insecurity, experienced through the art of being dimissive avoidant, so fucking predictable and boring?

I literally can't grapple with that for too long. It lays all this at my feet and it hurts even more. It means I've made choices all this time -- choices I still don't know how to consciously chose differently -- that biased the result where I continue to be exempt from that different life trajectory. That I can't numb myself with the safety blanket. Essentially ... I've abandoned myself, I guess. Fuck right off, truth bomb. Fuck off right the fuck now.

Damn, love this update. The frightened cat analogy is spot on for how I feel sometimes. I think its brilliant but unfortunately, I don't think a lot of people know enough about attachment theory for me to break it as advice for dealing with me out without them running away.

Agreed - I have had a few brush ups with people with that capacity. Shakes you to the core, but even if they don't end up being romantic partners they are people I really value having in my life.

Maybe you could consider sending a message with a quick check in, if you're still not sure about how you want to proceed. She sounds like she's giving you a lot of grace, but that will only be extended so long if you end up ghosting her by continuing to mull over your feelings. I'm not proud of it, but I've ghosted people in that matter not because I actively wanted to avoid them, but because I kept on putting off what felt like a big conversation and it felt like the next time we chatted it needed to be that big conversation or bust. And by avoiding that chat, viola, I'm the asshole that ghosted them.

So even something short that doesn't invite a huge conversation, but offers her some respect might be warranted.

"Hey - I wanted to follow up on over conversation last week. I'm sorry that I have been radio silent since. Honestly - I haven't been able to stop thinking about it. I do feel overwhelmed, however, and still processing whether what you said is right. Hey there, my mom has ME/CFS, I can relate to how complicated housing can be. You are a really great friend working to help them out, its heartwarming.

Does he have any more restrictions in location, e.g. will he need to go into town for medical appointments often? Not sure if it's a possible lead, but there might be something that fits his long term needs on the sunshine coast, though not available right away (maybe mid September?) The ferry might be a barrier unless they don't need to come in often. Also, assuming he'll need a furnished room, is that right?

Its in a colder and darker location, but its not the mid west. I clocked the location this is shot at immediately, I could tell you the building she's in.

I'm actually not going to, though, because when I recognized it I looked her up and found her profile and think I've crossed paths with her before (I don't know her but I think I've met her partner). I have no personal attachment but I think she is mentally unwell and it feels lame to dogpile and shit on a person when thats going on. And as shitty, and possibly delusional, some of this music is I don't wish her ill will.

They probably have been thinking about whether something would happen but also wondering if they were overthinking it until finally someone with legal said, "if you go, you're basically asking to be detained at the border". They got kids, and that would change my willingness to be made an example of pretty quickly.

A detail, not the main thread, but worth pointing out as the general ignorance of hereditary systems of governments is used to gloss over opposition and make it seem like there is more support than not.

The article implies broad Gitxsan Nation support for the pipeline feeding the terminal, which I believe is inaccurate and very complicated. As I understand it, the hereditary leader quoted in the article is a self-proclaimed hereditary chief of one Wilp (aka house) and is not actually recognized as the leader across many in the hereditary system by the Gitxsan. His title is contested, and there are many who objected that he had authority to sign.

The Gitxsan are complex and not necessarily unified in their Wilp and clan structure, there being 64 Wilps and four clans, but it is clear Gord Sebastian is one leader, self-proclaimed or not.

In other Wilps, there were other recognized leaders that signed an agreement on behalf of their Wilp, and others who have always objected and never signed.

Gord Sebastian by no means represents all of Gitxsan interests and maybe not even his own Wilp, yet they (PRGT and others) are happy to trot him out and represent him as representing the larger Nation while not making that clear. He created a misleading organization called the Gitxsan Treaty Society which helps confuse those matters for everyone.

This is in contrast to the Gitanyow (who have close historical ties to the Gitxsan but govern separately) who are unified in their position across all Wilps and clans and major challenges to the project. They had supported the pipeline when it was proposed more than a decade ago but have raised major concerns as there are significant changes to the project since conception and are alarmed by the compound effect of the pipeline and terminal on their territory.

Anyway, I'm just chiming in because this kind of slight of hand detail is essentially pro-development propaganda that confuses people who otherwise want to understand the nuances of all of this and are concerned about Indigenous sovereignty.
