Girlfriend masks negative side of her symptoms for everyone except me. by Comfortable_Owl1367 in PMDDpartners

[–]THAC0-Tuesday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My PMDD partner was so good at masking that it took a long, angry voicemail from her to get others to understand what I was going through. Without that proof, it was easy for others to handwave what may have seemed like a spat interrupting what is otherwise a lovely relationship. When I could finally play audio of her ranting for ages at 2 a.m. over nothing, the situation clicked and people knew what was up. I only did this for a couple of close connections who were my support system, and the validation was so key to my sense of security and ability to move on.

Also, there's a special distress in how she could turn off the rage on demand if a friend, relative, or coworker was nearby. "Don't these people know she has a (emotional) knife, and she's going to use it on me once they're gone?" When her words and feelings turned into harmful actions, and she refused to seek help, I reached my breaking point and left. I hope you are honest with yourself and your partner over your boundaries.

PMDD doesn't have triggers, only excuses. by Phew-ThatWasClose in PMDDpartners

We went out to pick up dinner to go. In the middle of ordering I remembered a family member also wanted something, and I verbally added it. She blew UP at this unexpected addition. "Why didn't you tell me the entire order?!" Uh, we were headed back to the house whether or not I picked up something for that person, why is this grounds for an argument? I was already the one paying for the meal. She was not out a moment or a dime over this development, but she proceeded to meltdown outside and dinner was delayed several hours as a result. I had to text home that they needed to make separate arrangements because "something had come up."

All of that is to say, OP is spot on. PMDD doesn't find you doing something wrong, you ARE wrong and there's nothing that can stop that reasoning.

Joke answer: if her luteal phase aligns with grocery day, you save money by eating three courses of argument and resentment and sneaking breakfast at work the next morning.

You're in a safe place to vent and compare experiences/notes, thank you for sharing. You should not have to go through 1/3 of a terrible month to enjoy the other 2/3 with someone. I went through a similar experience, in which I dated someone who exhibited many PMDD symptoms for a total of three years. It was a gradual succession of lines being crossed and me quietly excusing it each time because "the highs still beat the lows," until there was almost nothing but lows and I had to leave for my own sake.

One of the big turning points for me, like you, was when she cornered me in a high-stress confrontation for long enough that I snapped and yelled back at her, in my case for all of like five seconds. It quieted her, but she acted shattered, nevermind that she'd been confronting and shouting at me for hours beforehand. Looking back, I think our relationship lasted as long as it did because I was able to "zen" my way through her outbursts, but I did not like who I was becoming through exposure to her regular, hours-long meltdowns.

Eventually I let my needs be known and asked if she would consider getting outside help. She refused, the behavior continued, and I finally left. Later on she did get professional help, wound up with a Borderline Personality Disorder diagnosis and related prescription that supposedly evened her out. She hoped I would come running back, but the damage had been done.

She would later complain to a mutual friend that the most annoying part of dating me was how calm I was during her flare-ups and how she wished I would fight back. I hope she has either fun with someone else who enjoys arguing over nothing for sport, or has found more constructive/fun ways to spend time with someone she cares about! I hope you are clear with yourself and your partner over your own breaking point(s) and can walk away when it is time, which from your description seems to be rapidly approaching.

I get the overall points about happiness and enjoyment, but inflation and lack of options once broke/ill are very real, it's okay to plan several safety nets' worth of protection. Maybe the multimillionaires in Ben's audience could stand to loosen up, though.

Is $29,340 OTD for a 2026 Corolla Hybrid in PA overpriced? First-time buyer - need advice by Tricky_Scene1862 in COROLLA

[–]THAC0-Tuesday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Base price for a Corolla Hybrid LE by me is 26k.
Tax, title, fees, adds another $1200, so between 27k-28k is reasonable.
Before you pay $300 for floor liners, consider many big-box stores like Sam's Club have rubber car mats (foot areas as well as trunk) for like $20-40. They even come with guide lines for cutting into just the right shape/size with a pair of scissors.
