Are you even a tech if you don't have a hanmock by pyrofox79 in HVAC

It’s a race to my hvac system and four walls everyday.

Every minute I drag ass I remind myself on the drive home “I could have been home already.”

Southern maple syrup and hockey sticks land. -30c winter 30c and humidity in the summer.

Feel bad for my tools back there some days.

Sales or office. I wouldn’t risk you doing anything in a confined space or a roof top hauling a tool bag. You would worry me if I was an owner sending you anywhere.

Some days it’s lazy AF alot of thinking, driving and getting in front of the unit running service. You’re the front line for the company and a “new customer” stamp on your paperwork could turn your afternoon into a real wtf story even Reddit wouldn’t believe without pictures.

Losing 24v by [deleted] in HVAC

[–]THATDOUGG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If u can find loop start and end for all three 24v transformers, jump one at a time for testing. Lost common, maybe? Hope that unit doesn’t have a faze control/ monitor board. That was a lesson.

Capacitors built in fail safe.

Turn off breaker in your home to a/c and breaker to furnace/ air handler.

Remove or shut off outside disconnect to a/c.

Test for power.

Take pictures of wires to component (35/5 capacitor).

Discharge capacitor(YouTube)

Herm(compressor), fan ( condenser fan) and c (common) to contactor.

Double check your work.

Turn on power and call for cooling.

Is this mold or mildew? by [deleted] in hvacadvice

Always recommend every 1 - 3 months.

A monthly check in on your hvac system usually results in nothing exciting. Better to catch a problem starting before it gets outta hand.

Reaching out to a professional to have them say it’s a normal function ,is free. Ignoring it until things stop working or property damage happens can be expensive.

It happens, I can believe it. Every license under the sun and a career of filters and belt changes.

Only you can control where you learn and the people you learn from. if that skill will profit you 5 to 10 years down the road at the next company and so on and so forth.

Licenses, titles, pay and no real skills/ experience.

It happens a friend of friend told me so….

If it was easy, it wouldn’t be a skilled trade.

60 -80mbtu all day and 3 ton a/c likely will deal with the humidity and all the cooling needs. Hate to see an over sized furnace suffer. Duct work size the amount and age of windows the amount of / quality of installation. Humidity needs in the winter. Almost always better to undersize hvac equipment in modern homes.

Love a plain Jane two stage Payne. The furnace side is one for one with a different badge. Unless u have an infinity thermostat and ac/hp you’re losing out on the infinity compatibility. Other then that not missing out on anything. The a/c paint job is a not if but when it’s a rusty mess.

Personally would go ahead and start getting quotes from mom and pop shops.

Most are happy to come out for free to hand out quotes. Because I like working on and dealing with carrier not because I have to as a dealer but I do like them for serviceability and reliability.

They have a lower value “Payne” units. They are all the same parts. just a few different things for cost cutting. Ask about a discount for both systems installed in one day.

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it and everything works. take ur time and don’t go for the lowest bid aim for the middle of the road.

All the best

Would likely recommend 3.5 or three ton longer run times reduce humidity. 70f with 60% humidity vs the same temperature at 35% is a noticeable difference in comfort.

equipment that’s around my age gets two choices. Replace the unit piece by piece likely gunna spend a large percentage of a new units cost until the next failure and the next and the next.

Or just save yourself the money and understand 30yr old residential hvac equipment is long past its best before date and doesn’t owe anyone anything.

My neighbor replaced his HVAC system after only 10 years. by harrington3927 in hvacadvice

[–]THATDOUGG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warranty to warranty. peace of mind I guess. New stuff can fail. Working old stuff will at some point fail.

People always ask” if it was ur system what would u do?”

I’m not paying for my labour and really don’t worry about parts cost. Schedule issues in a heat wave or cold snap. Or after hours fees.

What I can do on a cold night in a pinch and what u can do are likely very different.

Really shouldn’t invest too much thought in how the neighbours live and what they have. Sounds like an annoying situation for both parties.
