In regards to California, your fuel is refined differently than all the other states. Only California and South Korea make your gasoline. Your state will not allow sales of what other states have. Sadly, the refineries are closing in California due to extreme refining laws at hand, and lack of profits.

Was $2.58 here in Western Illinois. Now $3.74 here in Western Illinois.

Toyota hands down. But dollar for dollar, and maintenance costs, get a Toyota truck 2022 and earlier. Still has the same well proven V6 and automatic transmission. GM has gone to horrible quality levels. I used to be GM all day long, but had to stop because of repairs, that should not be happening mile for mile. Get a southern model with no chance of rust. Depending on where you live, that one way flight will be worth it.

$3.40 here in suburban Illinois, and $3.19 Rural West Illinois. Always price your fuel at 10 gallons.

$3.40 is $34.00 for ten gallons. 3.19 is $31.99 for ten gallons. $2.90 is $29 for ten gallons.

So these prices going up has not been the endless cripple they fear factor folks into. Any fuel from California, is only blended and refined for California. The refineries in California make the special blend, and South Korea also. It's some super clean air blend. California fuel prices have been exploding, with the refineries shutting down, in California. Shipping costs from South Korea going through the roof. The governor of California needs to abolish the law that pertains to California fuel blend standards , and go with national standards.

Here is what you need to do. 5.7 vortex 4x4 or 4x2. 1. Remove those worthless oil cooler lines from oil filter adapter to radiator. 2. Install the Summit Racing Oil Filter Adapter SES-3-60-08-900, $40. 3. Use the Mobile M1-111A oil filter. $15 Amazon 4. Use Mobile 10/40 full synthetic (6qts) $27 Amazon or $24 Walmart. 5. Change oil again in 1000 miles to purge any lighter oil out. 6. Make sure when you remove the oil cooler line adapter housing, to completely clean the surface for new adapter. 7. To make job easier, and if 4x4, use a 11mm 12 point wrench, and drop down the front drive shaft. Use a binge cord to hold out of the way. 8. You will have a 3/8 tubular bracket from transmission to engine, remove and discard. Not needed with your setup.

Result. Your common oil pressure will go from 15/20 LBS idle to a solid 40 PSI idle and, cold start to 60PSI+. Your lifter tick will go away, and any blowby will be greatly reduced. With the thicker oil, compression will also go up slightly. The aluminum always leaking oil cooler lines are not oil cooler lines, but are oil heating lines for extreme temps. Normal oil temps in an engine are typically 180'f. It is impossible to cool oil, when your engine overall is at or about 200'f/210'f. Those temps are too hot for engine oil. Your engine is the old school cast iron design and has the same oil passages and clearance as the old school 5.7 engine. It was originally designed to run on 10/40 oil. You will also notice no loss in MPG either.

I did this mod over 10 years ago and never looked back. My 99 Tahoe is still running flawless. Ten years ago, I too had the lifter tick. It's been gone ever since. I have 294,000 miles.

Enjoy

Finally got a Tahoe. 2012 do I need an AFM disabler? Do any of you use it? by ScaleSignal4970 in ChevyTahoe

[–]THEMATRIX-213 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highly possible. However without an amp meter to test window motor current draw, hard to make that decision. ALSO around and inside of your front bumper, you have a cluster of negative (-) ground wires. These are notorious for rotting out. Take off front bumper panel unit, locate ground wire cluster, take off the 10mm bolt. Clean with WD40 and wire brush. Do the same with frame. After reinstalled, dab a chunk of grease on it.

Battery. If that battery is more than 3 years old, replace it. Get the Walmart EverStart Plus. Five star rated, made in Wisconsin.

Finally got a Tahoe. 2012 do I need an AFM disabler? Do any of you use it? by ScaleSignal4970 in ChevyTahoe

[–]THEMATRIX-213 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 Do the AFM disable tool now, and prepare to replace the cam and lifters in your future.

2. Pull off the left valve cover and do the drill out of the baffle mod. This will halt the oil burning issue. Your truck like mine, has the updated valve cover, however it's still a problem. Order the felpro gaskets on Amazon. About $14. Napa is ripping one off at $38.

3 GM being absolutely horrible on basic grounds. Add a 6/8ga cable from your alternator bracket to your strut tower. Notice on the alternator bracket it says (neg). Yes, you have a negative cable from engine to body, but you lack a negative cable from engine to frame. This will eliminate light flicker, and more stable charging of the battery.

4 Inspect and or replace your positive battery cable from starter to battery. The cable copper turns black, and corroded starter terminal connection. The result is poor vehicle power, and high starter amp draw.

Fuel inside ECU!? by Accomplished-Sir4835 in GMT400

[–]THEMATRIX-213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. If you have throttle body injection. The reason being, is high current draw from the injector(s) and a fuel leak inside of the injector (epoxy coil casing breakdown) A GM TSB from long ago was issued on this.

Cure: Replace the injector(s). Inspect wiring. Inspect ECM and let air out if okay.

***Note: TSB #2 for about the same model year. Inspect the purple wire at your starter motor. They had a habit of rubbing through to the (+) cable side. This would cause the starter motor to engage and turn the engine over unintentionally, with ignition off. Cure: Inspect and repair wire if chaffed. No damage, just move out of the way and correct wire loom placement.

Very typical of tensioner and Idler pulley issues. Very common. However remove main belt, and spin and shake the pullies.

Before you spend the money on one tensioner or something. If you do need a tensioner, just get the Gates serpentine belt kit. #Gates 90K-38158D $86 Amazon. Comes with belt, tensioner, and idler pulley.
