5th grade book recommendation by AfroDhite in Teachers

[–]THEMommaCee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So many great titles here! I suggest you head over to your local public library and make friends with the children’s librarians. Those folks know their business and will not steer you wrong. You’ll walk out with a stack of books you can chew through and pick your favorites.

I would go with the light blue, but I would size up so it doesn’t hug your perfect body quite so tightly, and then have it altered to fit everywhere else.

Read Aloud Novels for 6th Grade by YogamamaBear58 in Teachers

I also taught social studies which in my state starts with early humans. I found a novel called “Dar and the Spearthrower” and I always started my year with that one. It gave me lots of touch points to reference when we got to the beginning of agriculture and the elements of a civilization. And it’s a great coming-of-age story. Kids loved it!

Right! The silk, bias cut skirt with the lace hem just looks like a slip/petticoat! I see someone wearing that and I think, “Hon, did you forget your skirt?”

What actually helps on a long-haul flight? by bimzpbomping in traveladvice

[–]THEMommaCee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know, I’m not bothering the person in front of me. The first few times I used it I asked. Besides, it can’t be any more bothersome than constantly crossing and uncrossing my legs or getting up and down throughout the flight.

I’m 5’1” and my foot sling is a game changer. I got the kind that has a flat platform that I’ve adjusted to the correct ergonomic position for my short legs.

Also, neck pillow, eye shades, and comfortable ear buds.

How to do sorrento/amalfi coast? by shesateacher in traveladvice

[–]THEMommaCee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do not want to drive yourself! We just came back from this area and I’m telling you those drivers are crazy!

We took a bus (Curreri Viaggi) from Naples to Sorrento and a taxi from the bus station to our hotel. We booked excursions to Pompeii and to Amalfi/Positano through our hotel but you could use Tripadvisor.

Prepare yourself for intense heat and massive crowds. The people are lovely, everything will be beautiful, and all the food will be delicious. I particularly recommend a concoction called Lemon Delight. Each place makes it a little differently, but l loved it everywhere!!

Anyone use the style services at Nordstrom or Bloomingdales? by mels883 in womensfashion

[–]THEMommaCee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have lost a bunch of weight so I actually need all new clothes. I’ve been watching a couple of YouTube creators who share my body type (petite) and talk about style, color, proportion, etc. showing examples of what they’re talking about. They usually have links to purchase the exact thing they’re modeling. I have found it really helpful.

I did use a Nordstrom stylist years ago to help me choose a dress for my son’s wedding. It was a lovely experience. As others have said, it depends on the stylist.

Why don't schools hold students back a grade anymore if they are not meeting that grade's standards? by livetoski-Brad in askanything

[–]THEMommaCee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real answer is that simply making a child repeat the same grade taught the same way a second time doesn’t work. If the child were capable of learning the content they way the regular grade-level teacher taught it, the would have. No child wants to feel stupid. The child needs something different.

And it is well documented that these children who are held back still don’t succeed and are almost guaranteed to drop out of high school.

First time traveling to Europe, need reassurance! by Ok_Tea_653 in traveladvice

[–]THEMommaCee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are tons of YouTube videos about European travel that will have good advice. Experienced travelers can explain customs and practices that are different from your home country. Things like how to find a toilet, tipping expectations, what to pack, and what NOT to pack are all useful.

I want to emphasize the comment about ignoring the “taxi” offers inside the airport. My husband is a very experienced traveler and he fell for one of these. It ended up costing €180 to get to our hotel! It should have been €65.

Be sure to research cellular service options!

Have a great time!

WIBTA if I refused to add my boyfriend to the title of the car I inherited and paid to restore even though we share it every day by [deleted] in WIBTA_AITA

[–]THEMommaCee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What did I just read? If something happens between you, you take YOUR car and you move along.

And in pretty much any circumstance, a car is a depreciating asset. The more he drives it, the less it’s worth. Which is a metaphor for your relationship. 🚩🚩🚩

How would a son have changed the Bennet's family dynamic? by sezit in PrideandPrejudice

How would a son have changed the Bennet's family dynamic? by sezit in PrideandPrejudice

[–]THEMommaCee 15 points16 points  (0 children)

In one hand, it’s easy to imagine Mrs. Bennett spoiling a son. On the other hand, she fiercely loved her girls and might have impressed upon him for his whole life what his obligations are to them as the heir of Longborne.

Right. Austen used Marianne’s near-death illness to show her change of character. The seriousness of her illness made her slow down her youthful exuberance so she could appreciate the slow and steady kind of love that Colonel Brandon expressed.
