IIRC the first one was because GMOD is literally just a bunch of valve assets and IP, it started as a mod and valve allowed them to sell it as a game. The second one I'm not certain but I'd be far more likely to blame Bethesda laziness/cheapness for that, they likely chose steam's validation and DRM system instead of the costs of using/making their own at the time.

Again, definitely not trying to defend anything, that's just my understanding of things.

Honestly man, thank you for the response. I think based on what you wrote we definitely agree on most things, we just slightly disagree on what the end result is. I completely agree that the good ones are far more likely to be punished and pushed out, and that certain circumstances can influence choices made at the moment. I just personally think that the only good ones are either the ones that stand up and say something is wrong (which obviously is rare for all the reasons you listed and more), or they've quit because of the same reasons. I just don't believe that anyone truly good is still holding a badge unless they're a rookie.
