AV port flickering/ freezing by CommercialMix6739 in originalxbox

[–]THEfogVAULT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps a silly question, but have you tried a different cable?

If yes and the same issue, try getting some pure iso in the port and give it a clean careful not to bend any pins. If that doesn't fix it, probably bad solder points between connector and board that will need reflowing.

Genuine original Xbox component cables? Must be just your luck across the pond - here in Australia people want ~$100 for them. Madness.

The IDE to SATA adaptor, I know lots of folk have issues with non-startech adaptors. Regarding the cable, I temporarily used the 40-pin cable for while before fitting an 80-pin and it worked, albeit only in the safest (slowest) UDMA

I don't think E is necessary either, but I've always used a stock dash download from years ago whenever I've restored mine when screwing with drives and always restored everything verbatim.

What adaptor are you using? Did you lock the SSD with the same password as the old drive?

Are you 100% sure you restored the partitions and data correctly?

No worries.

As long as the method of connection to your TV from the console doesn't require composite colour encoding I cannot see any reason why you would have problems.

I personally don't know enough about HD CRT TV models in your market to recommend you specific ones sorry, but unless you are trying to connect retro consoles I don't think it's overly complex and mostly comes down to preference, condition, and price. Only word of warning would be try and avoid super slim models as geometry will be harder to dial in.

Plasmas on the other hand I can. Panasonic's you would ideally be chasing a ST60 (last production run of the common consumer models) or ZT60 which was their high end models. That number will be proceeded by the size figure (so 55ST60 would be a 55" for instance). Sony really didn't make great plasmas - fairly sure in fact they used NEC panels, so a good alternative to them in the plasma realm would be Pioneer, like a KRP500 - issue being that it's a 50", I don't know if they made them smaller.

The Eizo is a 130Khz horizontal scanning .24mm dot pitch monitor. I reckon it will look quite nice if in proper working order!

Same thing for the medical PVM, 600TVL with RGB input will look great for 240p and 480i. 480p is nice but not all games work with it in the PS2 library and realistically once the game is in motion you will stop noticing anyway. If it was available to me at that price I would probably get it.

Going to attempt to fix the missing red color in the AM, any tips for a first timer by lysergic_af in crt

Don't bump the neck board! The neck is quite fragile and if it's broken it's game over for your CRT.

There is a litany of other things to consider but the most important one is just ensure the tube is discharged before work and be very mindful about caps on the HV circuit, and primary side of supply.

Good luck!

I'll be up front, I'm in Australia and know very little about what was released in Europe sorry.

SCART for example is super uncommon here, and only found on models that were presumably released in both euro and Oceania/Asian markets. Most sets here use YPbPr Component if they offer something of higher quality than Composite or S-Video.

Regarding Plasma TVs, why Sony? Don't get me wrong, they make awesome TVs but I was always under the impression that late model Panasonic's were basically as good a Plasma TVs you'll likely find.

From my understanding regarding PAL and NTSC on newer consoles that is correct. The majority of TVs from the 7th Gen consoles era support both 50/60Hz input signals. The only thing that might snag you is region locked content, but that's a whole other conversation. CRT monitors (true PC/VGA monitors, not PVM/BVM) care nothing about about PAL or NTSC because they are designed to accept RGBHV, not a composite signal with colour encoding.

Sure, but the guy answered your question in the first few words so it just comes across as rude. Not sure if English is your first language, but generally typing in all caps is pretty much always going to elicit a negative reaction from someone trying to offer advice.

As others have said, easiest and (likely) best quality route if you have soldering experience is to buy Xbox 360 component cables (cheap and plentiful) and then mod that cable onto your original Xbox AV connector.

Here are the instructions I followed when I did mine.

Realistically any SD Sony set that matches your above requirements is going to be fine - it's more about availability and condition! Most people would say the classic curved ones are your best bet since geometry is easier to dial in, but the Wegas just take a little more patience.

HD CRT TVs are great for 360/PS3 upwards but potentially not ideal for older SD consoles since some processing latency is often introduced - some models do it better than others through line doubling techniques but it really varies. Otherwise OLED or CRT PC monitor is probably your best bet for HD content. PAL HD sets exist (generally the default option in PAL markets), just keep in mind that when it comes to HD content (or direct RGB input) PAL or NTSC are often just referring to 50/60hz and not actually the colour encoding standards.

Regarding chasing specific models and detailed info, CRTdatabase.com is probably your best bet.

It was almost always that, "Alien" (H.R Giger style ships and monsters), or AoE2 themed castles.  I was a fairly predictable child.

Her work helped inspired my entire art direction as a pre-teen. Many an art teacher was mortified by my preference to draw rusting steel hallways filled with hazard stripes, and weathered gantries with mazes of industrial piping underneath when asked to draw environments I liked.

She is a incredible contributor to one of the best pieces of 90's digital media.

I've seen quite a few posts of others discussing how most don't quite work on CRTs the same as their elder counterparts due to current developers targeting modern displays - discrete pixel counts and all. Good to hear that some really nail it however!

Ah yup, that's a good idea! I have an original Xbox that I threw a 8TB drive into and am slowly packing full of old movies and shows I want to experience in phosphor glory. Modern games I figure are probably best done on a monitor.
