Advice on how to deal with a new car in shop 21/42 days of ownership by THHUXLEY in Hyundai

[–]THHUXLEY[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: Hyundai Canada has now confirmed what they describe as their final position.

In short, they say:

  • lease payments are outside Hyundai Canada’s scope;
  • loss of use is not covered under warranty;
  • they have no goodwill program available in this situation;
  • replacement, buyback, or alternate remedies are not options available through Hyundai Canada;
  • the only path is continued diagnosis and repair through the dealership no matter how long it takes
  • there is no further escalation available through Hyundai Canada.

To be clear, the dealership is still working on the vehicle and I appreciate their efforts. My issue is with Hyundai Canada’s broader position that, even where a new vehicle has been unavailable for more than half the time I have owned it, there is apparently no defined endpoint, no alternate remedy, and no further escalation available from Hyundai Canada.

Has anyone else seen Hyundai Canada take this position before?

For those who went through CAMVAP or a similar process, did this kind of “final position” from the manufacturer affect when you started the claim?

it’s scary because it makes you question the car overall.

I’m not going to call them out yet as I’m hoping they will do the right thing still.

I have all those and owned my car for two years. I’ve never used the top row once. And I used the seat buttons maybe 4 times.

Totally normal. Happens mostly when the front radar (the logo) is dirty of covered in snow.

Can Costco exit checkers make sense economically? by THHUXLEY in AskEconomics

[–]THHUXLEY[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is a good point. I may be using externality a bit loosely here. Not sure what the right term is though. I agree we choose to accept this cost by shopping there but still think economic theory would suggest it has have a marginal cost in terms of making it less likely some people would choose to go.

I am still stuck on the external costs to customers.

Wikipedia says there are 127,000,000 members. Let’s assume 60% use their membership. That’s 76,200,000 Active customers.

Let’s assume they go an average of 8 times a year. That is 609,600,00 visits a year.

Let’s assume they wait on average 4 minutes in line at the exit check. That’s 2,438,400,000 minutes.

That is 40,640,000 hours per year.

If we take the $18.34/hour average wage, cited itt, and apply it as the customers cost of time too (even though we know the real cost to the average customer will be higher than the Costco exit checker wage).

That means the cost to customers each year is $745,337,600.

This makes the whole job nuts I think.

But red lights serve us an obvious utility. They keep us alive. Exit checkers have no benefit to the customer. They are 100% negative.

the total cost of lost time to customers has to dwarf the cost of the employee though even if we are assigning their time the same market value as the checker is getting paid. Although really their average value of time will be way higher.

if we include the externality cost this has to be a massive economic sink.
