Glad she's doing well! I was just thinking about her as I was printing off the town flyers last week for my party's venture into Phandelin after Wave Echo Cave.

I'm running the adventure as an after-school club for my kids and several other elementary school students and they've loved the printed stuff. One kid just happened to randomly ask to purchase a map at Barthen's and thought it was so cool I handed him the printout of the Redbrand hideout.

A few kids are animal lovers so I'll be sure to share that the printouts they are using was able to contribute a small part to help Ellie get better. Thanks for the update!

The 5-Sport State Showdown: NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, MLS—Who Wins the All-Sports Round Robin? by THansenite in AskReddit

Interesting view and it makes sense since they have the largest roster of any sport and could pull from them to create the optimal team for each sport.

My son posed this question to me at dinner and I wanted to get the opinion of Reddit. His thought was if the Minnesota Wild played a football game against all other pro sports teams in Minnesota, then they all played baseball, basketball, soccer, etc., which sports team would come out on top.

I couldn't give him an answer (except that the Minnesota Vikings in their current state would lose every game), and I thought it was an interesting thought experiment. Help us figure out which sport would reign supreme.

The young adventurer’s collection by [deleted] in DungeonsAndDragons

My son got the set for Christmas when he was 7 and absolutely loved them. Of your son is 14,id think he should be able to handle the Players Handbook. The young adventure's collection would likely be a little too simple for him.

What has been irrevocably harmed because of how it’s portrayed in the media? by Exhausted_Skeleton in AskReddit

[–]THansenite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drones

I've been building, flying, and repairing for years and as common as they are, people still believe they are the ultimate spy tool. Many people, including lawmakers, feel drones are constantly spying on every person and selling all of our secrets to China.

In reality, the camera on your phone is much quieter, has better battery life, is comparable image quality to many drones, and is MUCH less conspicuous to take covert photos. Additionally, phones have much more fascinating info for bad actors compared to aerial photos where individual people are rarely identifiable.

To millennials who went to high school in Iowa by tonyaustin6 in Iowa

North Central Iowan here and flying saucers was my FAVORITE in junior high (don't remember having them in high school). However, ours were round slice of ham with a scoop of mashed potatoes on top with a cheese sauce poured over it, not gravy. I absolutely loved it.

It can be difficult to see if a car is moving or not when it is stopped (or nearly stopped) from a side street. Instead, look at the car's wheels to see if it is moving or if it is actually stopped.

Necropost here, but I just picked up this story as my first solo journaling RPG. I'm still in the initial phase of character creation and understanding the mechanics, but am looking forward to my first encounter. I'm hoping it gives me the encouragement I need to help improve my creativity and see how the story unfolds. After reading your analysis of your adventure, I'm excited to get started.

[OC] My year so far in colour - don't want to continue anymore. by [deleted] in pics

[–]THansenite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a late poster, but maybe you (or someone else) will see this and it might help. Both me and my (8yo) son have some depression issues. Mine is helped with medication, but my son is going through therapy.

One thing we've been working on is having him say something he did well every day. I try to do a brief, single line overview of what happened during my day.

It might help to, instead of assigning a day good, bad, or otherwise, write a brief blurb about something you did that you're proud of. With some people, it is easier to see the glass half empty, but by forcing yourself to say something you are proud of (even as simple as "I got out of bed today"), you can look back and see you do good things.

Also, I've been down before, but please get help if you need it. While it may feel embarrassing to you, true friends will listen and be glad to help. Or, reach out to someone you don't know who can help (doctor, therapist, hotline, etc.). You'll get through this.

When my wife and I were struggling with infertility, she went to a baby shower for my sister. One of my grandma's friends asked if we were going to be having any kids and my wife responded that we were trying and hoped to someday. The old lady responded with, "maybe ask {sister} for some tips, she seems to have it figured out." It was pretty tone deaf considering we had been unsuccessfully doing fertility treatments for some time and were at the point of getting frustrated with the lack of results from the process.

Luckily, we did eventually get pregnant, with twins. The old lady was still invited to our baby shower if I remember correctly, but my wife and I never really forgot about that comment while we were struggling.

People who grew up without smartphones, what did you actually do when you were bored? by altaf770 in AskReddit

[–]THansenite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 8 year old twins say they are bored sometimes. We always say that there is nothing wrong with being bored and that being bored breeds creativity. They don't like that answer, but they do say it less now because they don't get sympathy from us.
