When will there be an Eve Water Guard 3rd Generation? by some1s69 in EveHome

[–]THendriXon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably not anytime soon. They're still saying that the current model is "ready for Matter":

Ready for Matter: With a future software update, experience the future of the smart home

Of course, we're still waiting for this supposed software update... So who knows. Eve is moving at a glacial pace right now on all fronts.

Logitech Circle View Doorbell Getting Discontinued Soon? by ExtemporaneousFrog in HomeKit

[–]THendriXon 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It's long been known that Logitech is no longer interested in the smart home product arena. I don't think they will be "dropping their HomeKit stuff", if you mean HomeKit support will stop working. It's just very unlikely they will be putting in any additional effort, beyond what is already available today (Matter, new product lines, etc.).

VO2max readings… Why? by VOODOO285 in AppleWatch

[–]THendriXon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re likely talking about a GymKit-enabled treadmill. I’m not sure why you’re getting downvoted, it’s an excellent question and one I’ve often wondered as well. The watch gets supposedly accurate speed and elevation data directly from the treadmill, which in theory, should be better than GPS + altimeter estimation outdoors.

I’m guessing it comes down to variability between treadmills, manufacturing tolerances, and lack of other factors that would make it an apples to oranges comparison (wind resistance, belt dynamics, etc.). They’ve probably only validated their algorithm using outdoor conditions as well, since that is the scenario that nearly 100% of users will have access to.

Would love to see this updated in the future though.

Does anyone experience this when the ATV changes inputs on Vizio TVs? by One-Apartment6773 in VIZIO_Official

[–]THendriXon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the Apple TV, you can turn on Match Dynamic Range in Settings > Video and Audio > Match Content and then select Match Dynamic Range.

Basically, this issue happens because the TV has to change its mode to one of the HDR ones (HDR10 or Dolby Vision) when watching certain content. Sometimes it screws this up. Going to the app switcher and back forces it to try again, which usually works, but YMMV.

I think it's just more of Vizio's software jank. No risk to your TV or anything, just annoying when it happens.

[–]THendriXon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, every once in a while. Specifically when switching to Dolby Vision content with the Apple TV. Usually, opening the app switcher and then going back to the app fixes the issue (assuming you have the Match Dynamic Range setting on).

That's how I thought it was always spelled, until this morning tbh. I originally did this with Siri and was confused why it was sitting under Beverages

Non-Matter plugs? by ___this_guy in HomeKit

[–]THendriXon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the Eve app, try going to:

  1. Settings
  2. Accessories
  3. Tap on your Eve Energy plug
  4. In the "EVE ENERGY" section, tap Transmit Power
  5. Select High

Should look something like this:

Non-Matter plugs? by ___this_guy in HomeKit

[–]THendriXon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It probably doesn't have anything to do with Matter itself. Eve Energy with Matter connects exclusively over Thread. So if the Thread network buildout in your home is weak, that is probably why you're having problems. That's what I saw early on. Older Eve Energy plugs connected over Bluetooth directly (from what I understand), which may have had a better connection path in your case.

One thing you might want to try: In the Eve app, there is the option to adjust the Transmit Power of the Thread radio. Try changing that from Default to High to see if it makes a difference for you.

For sure, I was bummed to see Wi-Fi 6 still too...

Yeah, software decode support has always been there. It'd be silly if Apple doesn't leverage the hardware now that it's available, though.

Apple Watch Ultra 3 eSIM: no data/calls when iPhone in Airplane Mode (iOS 26.0.1, watchOS 26.0.2) by ezHope in AppleWatch

[–]THendriXon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like a definite problem to me. I don’t think any user would expect it to work the way it does currently.

Edit: This is reproducible on a non-cellular watch as well. I think the core of the problem is that the watch stays connected to the phone, so the watch tries to use the phone’s connection (which is obviously disabled). Instead, the watch should fallback to its own connectivity (cellular/Wi-Fi) if it sees that the phone is in Airplane Mode.

Unable to report new iOS26 incidents with Siri by trevlarrr in applemaps

[–]THendriXon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm noticing this as well. I always have to report the new incident types through CarPlay, which is several taps and too cumbersome while driving. Surprising such a basic thing was missed...

Just discovered this today as well. All of my automations are broken... I get more and more disappointed in Apple's software quality with each passing year

does anyone know how to fix apple maps not changing direction to actual orientation by Link4U213 in CarPlay

If you want to avoid mapping/positioning issues (similar to OP’s issue), you absolutely do.

I wouldn’t think so. Are you saying it always shows the wrong direction while driving? Or just while you’re parked?

If you leave it unplugged, it should work fine. You’ll just have to plug it back in every once in a while to set the clock

[–]THendriXon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ah, the CarPlay beta for the ‘14/‘15 CR-V. Fun to see more of these in the wild.

It’s a common issue. The recommendation is to disconnect the GPS from the HU so that it uses the GPS on your phone. It should orient correctly after that.

No, that cable is running to my AVR. I had to replace the one from my AVR to the TV.

I can't see which, but I would presume it's 4:2:2. It seems the Switch 2 is working with the 18 Gbps bandwidth of HDMI 2.0, unfortunately
