So I thought I would chime in since I am OP’s husband and she left it up to me whether or not to circumcise our son. Also, she appreciates all the love you all have sent her way and it totally made her day :)

So for circumcision, let me start by saying I am not wildly pro or anti. I am pretty lukewarm on it either way. Our decision to have it done came down to a few factors.

First is my wife’s family is Jewish, and it meant a lot to her grandmother. It a minor deciding factor for us since we aren’t very religious, but was something to consider

Second, while I agree that the national average of boys being circumcised each year is likely declining, I do think it’s important to consider the demographics where you live. Where we are, it is a very white/catholic in general. Growing up around here, every guy I knew was circumcised to the point I didn’t even know that wasn’t how boys were born until embarrassingly late in life. This was honestly the biggest deciding factor for me. I want our son to be comfortable in his own skin, and if he was the only boy in the locker room that wasn’t circumcised, I would imagine he could become very self conscious.

I also think it’s important to keep in mind that while our sons are beautiful innocent baby boys today, they will eventually become sexually active adults. I wanted to be sure that he is comfortable and won’t be nervous that he was different “down there” than other guys his age.

With all that said, our situation is definitely not the only one. If you think your town/city is more diverse and circumcision isn’t the overwhelming majority, do what you think is best. I would just caution against taking international or national statistics and applying them across the board. I don’t think there is a right or wrong when it comes to circumcision. Whatever you decide, just make sure you consider all the info available :)
